  1. Absolutely it was a landline. The base needs a phone line and power. Handset just needs power. Honestly if we had not moved and had to give up our landline, I would still be using this phone. I really dislike doing “business” on my cell phone.
  2. We did not have at first, but I believe we did later on when we bundled our cable and phone service. We did not have service when the power was out. Voip vs phone service was no different in how the phone system worked. Our system was a base with the answering machine it, and 4 extra handsets that just need a charging base. We used them all of our house, including the basement, as my cell phone didn't work down there. What is Panasonic Smart Call Blocking? With automated call block, the unit screens incoming calls before ringing for allowed calls, or ends the calls without ringing for calls identified as robocalls, telemarketing calls, or other undesirable calls. When a call comes thru, the unit screens the calls... I believe what it did was, it decided if it was a robo/computer call or a real phone number. It would cut off the robo/computer call and your phone never rings. When a "real" phone number would call for the first time, my phone would ring, caller ID would show up and I could then answer the phone. If I wasn't home, or didn't recognize the number, I would ignore the phone call and they would be prompted to leave a voice mail by pressing a button... I could answer the phone at any time while they were leaving their message. At some point the system knows I have accepted that phone number and those people never hear that wierd computer voice again. Your phone will ring when those callers call again. I don't recall that I ever had to enter a number unless I wanted it in my favorites for speed dialing. I don't have the manual for that exact system ... When we got the phone and were setting up the answering machine, DH decided to just "block all calls" in the menu..and we went from there. Yes, it was amazing. Robocallers, etc. are automatically cut off and you never hear the phone ring. But all those callers that the system has cut off, will show up in your missed calls. You can scroll thru them, and see if there are any phone numbers that you recognize, but they didn't leave a message. Those would be from maybe a Dr. Office appointment reminder or Drug store reminder..etc. something that you need to call back. BTW..my 84 yr old Aunt and Uncle very recently bought a similiar phone system to what I have, and use the call blocking feature. They are thrilled. I believe their's is a panasonic as well.
  3. You can set up this system to accept your cell phone calls as well. I never quite got that figured out. 😜
  4. We had a Panasonic phone system in out last house. It has a feature to block all calls. When someone calls, they get a wierd computer voice asking them a question…can’t remember , some like if this is this who you want to talk to, press 1.. and then the call will ring in your house. Once that call rings thru, says it’s your mom, the system will automatically let it ring thru every time after that. We did have many confused callers at first wondering what the wierd computer voice was..and as I recall they were able to stay on the line and leave a voicemail so we could call them back. When a computer calls you, it doesn’t have the ability to press 1, so it doesn’t ring thru. Most of the computer calls you from a Drs office with an appointment , we don’t hear the ring but they would get thru and leave a voicemail. That was the only drawback…we just checked the messages frequently. Spam phone calls were gone! We actually still have the system, but we only have cell phones now so we don’t use it.
  5. Love this topic! Great way to think about what’s happening in a positive way! So here’s mine: I am really glad I’ve been sick for 3 weeks because my DH has taken an interest in learning to cook!
  6. When we moved into a brand new home 2 years ago, we got all kinds of mail for people who clearly never lived here. Eventually our mail person stopped putting it in our box.(we have USPS informed delivery. I could see mail that was then never delivered. )
  7. For what it’s worth, Quilting is Not my thing but my good friend has made 100 quilts at least. She uses basting spray. Spray the wrong side of the back, lay on the batting and then spray the batting. Now start on Top. With the basting spray you can easily reposition the top as you are working on it. Maybe even use a marker of done kind and draw lines on the batting to match your backing so you have a reference points for your top. She often uses tables out together in her church basement. She also does these larger projects with her daughter. Back up plan, pay someone to do the quilting. They will do the layering as they quilt it.
  8. Interesting! I have been nebulizing with salt water/iodine/silver mixture. Definitely makes me cough and cleans out my sinus. salt rooms have benefits of helping skin as well…not that I plan on doing this repeatedly, but it is very interesting.
  9. Day 17! I am going to step away from the thermometer as it reading normal for 24 hours. I still have sinus stuff going on but minimal. Energy levels have picked up a bit, but after sitting around for 2 weeks, it’s going to take a few days to get that back. I am going to go to a salt room today . They claim it will help all this crud. I am thinking positively! DH has left my side and is playing pickle ball today with grandkids. I am happy for him!
  10. Yes it will! Our children now live in “castles “ of their own . Finally we got tired. We retired, downsized immensely and let them do all the hosting! No regrets.
  11. Remember, they often “multiply” and come back home with more people than when they left. It’s all good!
  12. I’m so sorry. Sounds like what I have. I am on box #4 of Kleenex… Thankfully I don’t cough a ton at night…my theory is because I use a cpap machine…. But I truly don’t know. I have been pretty discouraged. My dear husband brought home a floral arrangement when he picked up my Rx at Costco. ❤️ Personally I would sinus more than once a day, just to help clear it out. However, I have been nebulizing as much as 4 times a day, and yet…I am on day 17. I have heard from friends, this long lasting virus has hit many people. I am determined not to spread it…
  13. So sweet of you! I am still running low grade temp. 1st week was really bad productive cough with a sore throat, plus sinus and fatigue. I did see a Dr last week, to be sure it wasn’t pneumonia. Lungs are clear, just a virus. He did give me sinus spray. I have thrown every supplement I know of at it, plus nebulizing. I am on antibiotic from my dentist as I have a tooth with a cracked root he doesn’t want to get infected. I developed pain there plus an ear infection. It is just dragging on forever. But really, Other than missing up Christmas and New Years, I doing ok. Tomorrow I plan to go to a “salt room” . We have a functional PA here whose husband owns a fantastic supplement store along with massage, laser therapy treatments, IV treatments, and the salt room. Hoping to kick this virus to the curb this week! Hubby has taken over cooking, and he is not a cook! Every couple days we go for a drive, get take out and just enjoy being out of the house. My family has changed Christmas gathering twice due to our 4 year old granddaughter being on immune suppressants for JIA. Current plan is next Sunday. So guess who woke up sick today! The 4 year old! Poor kiddo, but she didn’t pick it up from me! They have to take her off her meds while she’s sick..and we are praying her JIA doesn’t flare badly.
  14. Day 16 for me. Today was a good day. Temp was only elevated for a couple hours. Coughing, etc was minimal. I am a little hopeful I’ve turned a corner today.
  15. Our children are 13 years apart from top to bottom. I was a grandma when my 2 youngest were in Highschool. We lived 700 miles from our oldest and her family…so many many holidays with kids of all ages. I just let it happen. Some nights were game nights at the table but there might be 2 different games happening..like Catan and Scrabble. Some nights we all played card games. One day DH and I went to a movie and just let them hang out together. Our den had a fireplace and the TV, lots of video games happened there. Our main living room was the quiet room..no TV, only conversation, music and later Grandkids toys, so kind of a mommy room. We ate together, cleaned up together and then life just happened. Don’t stress, give your kids time to be siblings too.
  16. I’ve watched a lot of her videos. Some make sense for me , others not so much. When we moved 2 years ago , I purged about half of what we had in our last house. When it came to sentimental stuff, if it still made me smile, brought joy, ( very Marie Kondo) I kept it. I have rarely regretted any decisions I made then. I have gotten rid of even more since we moved but mostly furniture as it didn’t go with our new , more modern home. If your cross stitch still makes you smile, I would either put in my master closet so I could see it or take it out of the frame and save it in a photo so um or treasure box.
  17. Costco store managers have the option of discounting Christmas items before Christmas. I read this year many stores discounted the wrap the week before Christmas…but I have never seen that. I believe it is their company policy that any Christmas items are removed when the store closes Christmas Eve if not before. Where I lived in Mi, there were many stores that sold Costco and Sam's merchandise to raise money for private schools. Some of it was open boxes of food (think granola bars individually wrapped, but it could be anything including furniture from Costco and Sam’s, and other stores. I have not seen those kinds of store where I live now.
  18. I pray you are all out and about and enjoying Christmas Eve. Inspite of being sick , I did manage to get my hubby’s Christmas dessert made yesterday. Cheese Torte. We are having BBQ brisket and burnt ends from our favorite BBQ shop tonight, along with a couple coleslaw and Italian bread loaf from Aldi …it is so good! And the cheese torte .. Tomorrow we are having and Thanksgiving meal I froze after Thanksgiving. Trusting I will better by Friday so we can enjoy Christmas with our family.
  19. 49 degrees, fog and rain in MN. We’re not going anywhere due to me being sick, ut I am sure the grandkids are missing snow. Snow will happen eventually…but for now, rain is fine. Fireplace and all the lights make it cozy.
  20. I wouldn’t bother with a glaze if it’s for sandwiches. It just need to be warmed up as directed. A large Cake pan with a tent of tin foil over it will be just fine.
  21. Spryte, I am sorry you are sick, but agree with sending your regrets. This is a nasty germ for sure. I am in day 7 of what you described. I seem to have gotten a very severe case if it. ( highly unusual for me!) Dh and I have sequestered ourselves at home. ( Dh is about to Jo stir crazy as he is thankfully not sick) We have cancelled three Christmas events this week and our kiddoes have moved Christmas gathering to next weekend. This is a germ I apparently picked up from a guy coughing next to me at the gym.
