  1. Okay, I've had this annoying, maddening eye twitch for well over a week now-what is up? It's not like it's constant, but it happens quite a bit every day. When it's just our family, I don't mind too much, but today, I was talking to the piano teacher and was really hoping he didn't notice or didn't think I was a freak!:001_huh: Where did this come from, why is it here, and when will it go away????
  2. I would be heartbroken, but would want to know also. Otherwise, I would be sick, thinking about all of the terrible things he could be going through.
  3. We do the same, but I still always call to check their policies. I have gate checked once, and there was no damage, but they were real dirty.:( Happy travel!
  4. I love to shop, but would never get up in the middle of the night to be the first one to the stores! Also, I get pretty spoiled by being able to shop during the week when it's not crowded. I don't even like to go to the stores on Saturdays on a normal weekend. Besides, we put up Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving.:001_smile:
  5. I understand your delemma. My dd is only 6, and likes lip gloss & nail polish! I never let her wear colored lip gloss, obviously, and I only let her use polish on her toes, in the summer, but still.. The problem is, I wear makeup (not a lot;)) and she sees it, so I guess it's natural. At 12, I would still only allow the clear gloss, and nail polish. The scented bath stuff is nice, too. My dd was asking me the other day if she could have some bronzer (she didn't know what it was called-just saw it) like I do. I said no, and why would she ask. She said her friend from dance class had some. I said "Oh, you saw it at the receital, it must have been her mom's" She said it wasn't, the girl told her it was her own! Even for play, I don't want to start encouraging that.
  6. :iagree::iagree: Should you get one, or two? How about : NONE?! You caught me on a "Wish I was petless" day.:D Think "hair & poop", and you will get the picture. Also, think "hair & poop" before you make this decision. :D
  7. Zoobooks Highlights The Old Schoolhouse Practical Homeschooler Homeschool Enrichment Body and Soul Health Ladie Home Journal Country Home Chicago I think that's it-oh wait, In Style. I don't know how that one happened! I think I sent for 1 free one and it kept coming. I don't remember ever getting a bill! I LOVE magazines.:D No-I LOVE the written word!!
  8. I am in the same boat! My dd (6) is learning at our Girls Club, and I think I need to also. She's excited about it, and was told she's "a natural". Obviously does not take after me. She wants to learn to knit, cross stitch, etc.. and I am planning to learn along with her. So many things are lost because of convenience and it's easier to just buy things. Look at canning-even gardening in general.
  9. What I want to know is, how many people are invited? That's another thing that really bugs me, 20 kids to the party = 20 presents. If I was ever going to have a party with a lot of kids (which I would not do;)) I would say no gifts or do the thing where they bring a donation to an animal shelter or something. We have only 2 or 3 kids plus mine, and I usually say somthing small, a book, small craft item, etc... Things are getting way out of hand.
  10. We would be, but because both dc have been sick, we haven't done a regular schedule in over a week. We're packing to go out of town for the weekend, so I am doing school Mon-Wed and Friday. We are way behind.:(
  11. My dc would go every week if we could afford it! They supply the towels, so you don't need those, but you might want to bring more than one suit per child so that they don't have to put one back on that's cold and wet. Also, flip flops or some kind of sandal that can get wet because if they or you have to go to the bathroom, you don't want to walk in there barefoot . Snacks, since everything there is expensive-and most of the rooms have little refridgerators (check) and microwaves, so we brough a lot of our own stuff. Even though it's a pain to bring, it's so much cheaper. Your own water bottles-again cost effective. Also, they usually have game rooms-big game rooms, and the ones we went to, you actually walked through them on the way to the pool, so be prepared for the begging. I can't off hand think of much else you would need to bring, and I'm sure you were on their website to see what the indoor area was like, but it is really nice that they have the various areas for all ages. Have fun!
  12. I put 21-30, but again, depends on the wind. Personally, I like it when it's nice & crisp out, but I'm the only one in the family who does!
  13. I would definitely call, or better yet write a letter to the head of the clinic you go to. A man like that should not be in Pediatrics, or even if it's just Family Practice, should not be allowed to get away with that type of behavior. You don't have to be nasty, just tell the truth. Don't let him get away with it!
  14. Okay, I really like you!;) I am sitting here in my jammies as we speak, while the kids are "playing gymnastics". I do like it the way it is, for the most part, but I keep listening to my mom & my dh, thinking it needs to be x,y,z. The only thing I need to try and do is somehow add in the exercise. But I like staying up at night-I'm a night person. Thanks for making me feel better.
  15. Same here. Then, my ds will gorge himself on breakfast. The bad news is, if ds skips dinner, many times he will be sick and throw up in the am, so skipping isn't an option for us. Also, he is a gagger. He convinces himself that he will not like it, so even if we somehow convince him to try "just one bite" he gags, says "see, I told you I wouldn't like it!" and that's that. The other night, we had pizza and it had mushrooms totally inbedded in the cheese, so I picked out as much as I could, but you really could still see them. So, we ate dinner on the couch, watching a show in the dark, other than the tv! He did eat it though. Maybe that's the answer-eating in the dark so he can't see it.
  16. Amen, sister!:iagree: Also, yes we should be doing a lot more, but when it's a nice day, I want to be outside, or do a craft, or read-okay, I hate cleaning.:tongue_smilie: But, I do want to be an example, so I'm going to try and do better.
  17. Yes! Even if it's something. Isn't there some thread on here where they check in everyday? Something Exercisers?
  18. It feels so good to know that I'm not alone! I also value all of your suggestions, and really like the "family exercise" idea. By the way, I did read the "me time myth" and thought maybe I wrote it during an out of body experience!:D Thanks so much for all of your support.
  19. I'm a little embarrassed to admit my laziness/lack of motivation here, but I want to see if I'm alone in this. (Hope not) Okay, this is our typical day: DC usually come in at 7am, they will then go get dressed and make their beds (usually-probs with ds, but usually okay). Then DH gets up and makes coffee, and feeds the kids. I finally roll out about 8am, sometimes 8:30 (I know-lazy). I'm still dragging, so I have my coffee and get my head together while the dc are usually drawing, doing a simple craft, building something, etc... Then I get involved with them, clean up the kitchen, etc... But school doesn't usually officially start until 10am, or between 10am and 11am. We are using MFW 1st grade, which I love, because I'm able to get everything in. We have lunch at 12:30 or 1pm, and usually I'll read bible stories or other devotional stuff while they are eating. In the afternoon, they might go outside, watch a nature dvd, do read alouds, etc... They are also constantly creative (like most hs kids, I imagine) making up stories & plays, writing books, etc.. So, the good news is, we get our school in, and they have their chores and things they get done. But, my problem is, I'm selfish and want my own time, so I stay up until 11:30 or midnight everynight reading. That's why I'm so draggy and tired, so then I never exercise, which I REALLY need to do, I don't eat very healthily (even though I make sure the kids do) because bad food is like my reward or something. And, even though I don't want to be a drill sgt. I would like to start school early so I can exercise when we finish before I'm wiped out again. It's a vicious cycle, because every day I tell myself "Okay, today will be different; I'm going to eat well today, get to bed early so that we can start early", etc... And I do usually start out well, but then it all falls apart. I know, my problems are so tough, right?:nopity:And, I do know what I need to do. I guess I'm just wondering if it's just me, or does anyone else feel like this. Thanks for listening/looking.:001_smile:
  20. When we decided to get a dog I did a TON of research-Research Queen, right here!:thumbup1: Anyway, there are some tests that you can take (I wish I remembered what they were for you-just google) and I took a few. We have had our dog for 2 years (got her from a rescue group) and our kids were 3 & 5 at the time. I was leaning towards a lab or retriever, because that's all I had growing up. But, since we were going to get one from a rescue society, and it would be an adult dog, I didn't want to go with those breeds, because they can be pretty rambuncious and my kids were too little . So, we got a Brittany Spaniel, and she is perfect with the kids. The breed really has a strong bond with the family, which is what we wanted, and there isn't a mean or agressive bone in her body. Also, she's the perfect size. Not as big as a lab, but larger than a Cocker Spaniel. Check the breed out. Good luck!
  21. Oh, good point, I wasn't thinking about the taste! I have 2 cartons that expired in September. Hmm, what to do-do I risk it? I'm not really a rist taker, though.
  22. Okay, I'm making a bunch of soup today (if you knew me well, you'd pass out) and I have a bunch of chicken & vegitable broth that have passed the best date by a few months. Okay, one expired Jan 08. ;) Anyway, I am usually very paranoid about expiration dates, especially dairy, but this has never been opened, organic in the carton stuff. I hate to throw it out. We are trying to budget here! (Hence, the making a bunch of soup today!) What do you think?
  23. My dd takes the liquid fish oil, which is really hard to find in stores (around here) they all have chewables, which have some kind of sugar. Also, we seem to take A LOT of supplements. I've ordered from luckyvitamins.com, but that's about it. Best prices?? I'd like feedback before I order again!:001_smile: Thanks.
  24. That was my birthday present-we just saw them in September!!! It was the best concert I've ever been to!:party: They didn't have an opening band, and played for 3 hours. I have to say, I'm a sucker for a musician(who isn't?) so the next day, I spend much time googling Don Henley, his bio, is he married (Of course I am & so is he, but I can dream, right?) I just got caught up in it, okay?:D Have a wonderful time!
  25. :iagree::iagree::iagree: 11 YEARS OLD & DATING!!! Okay, time for another glass of wine people.:D:D
