  1. And I though Wisconsin was bad! Rain, rain go away!!! Where IS the perfect place to live?
  2. I know how you are feeling! It just hurts your heart, probably even more than your dd is hurting! It's so hard to know what the right thing is to do. My dd had the same thing, in preschool, and I was blown away that girls could be so mean at that young age. I volunteered most days there, and had to watch my sweet throw her heart out only to have it rejected. It hurts me to think of it now! I'm sure jealousy is a huge part of the problem, and the way the other girls are being raised. All you can do is keep talking about it, and encourage her to make other friends, friends that are nice to everyone.
  3. THANK YOU Melissa!! I needed that. I came across a quote that is perfect "Comparison is the death of contentment" how true is that?
  4. My dh says I live for research, and that I research more than I teach!! That can be such a problem! So many things sound good, better than what you're doing, etc.. But one thing I've noticed on these forums, is that a lot of people are saying that simple is better. That's hard for a planner/curriculum junkie like me. Especially since I want freedom to deviate, yet I want everything all scheduled out for me! Is there "The Perfect Curriculum"? That will give the kids great literature-with a love for reading, make it fun, expand their creativity, let us deviate but keep us structured, be easy for me to understand, help them to learn the bible, love God AND be affordable? THAT's the one I want!!!!
  5. Okay, I am on these forums a lot-as well as others, and I am AMAZED at the amount of people that have their own blog pages, whatever you want to call them. Fantastic pages with music, daily postings, curriculum info, advice, links, etc..... I can barely post on here, and you women blow my mind!!! How are they able to do this, plus homeschool and everything else? And most have at least 5 kids (I have 2). My house is a complete mess, my days are unorganized, and I look like I just crawled out of bed! I feel unworthy!!!! Please tell me I'm not the only one.
  6. Our dog is Penny, our cat is Max. The cats I had before kids were Theo & Molly and were my kids, especially Theo. Before my son was born (about 3 years after Theo died) we were trying to come up with a meaningful boy name, and I REALLY wanted the name Theo. I said I liked the name a lot, it was different, and it would really have meaning. My husband would not agree. He didn't love Theo like I did.
  7. Do any of you use the new "Green Pans" from HSN? Yes, I got caught up in the hype; I want to keep us safe! Anyway, we have used a few of the frying pans, and tonight I used the lg saucepan to make mac and cheese. Anyway, after I drained the water, it seemed like all of this clear stuff was totally flaking off my pan!!! And it wasn't from the water/foam from boiling. I'm so upset. I saw a post or 2 about flaking before I ordered it, but of course, dismissed it because I wanted them. Feedback please!
  8. Thanks Ladies! I needed to be brought back to reality. My husband says I spend more time "researching" than I do teaching! I just want to pick the "right" thing. But they learn anyway, don't they? I need to just take a deep breath and go with what I felt was right, and that was MFW. You're right Angela, I can use the extra money to get more books, and fancy isn't always better. I'll keep you updated on our progress.
  9. I really need some advice! My dd is 6 and knows all the letter sounds, can read short words, but hasn't really been good about sitting down and reading. My ds will be 5 in the fall and has picked up a lot from dd. I am going to start MFW 1 any day now (as soon as it comes) and I have heard a lot of raves about their reading program in 1st grade. Then, today I get the Veritas Press catalog I requested and Phonics Museum looks sooooo cool! I've heard about it before, and wondered if I could use it for both kids, would that work? How basic is the PM kindergarten part, since they both know the letters and sounds, do would PM 1 be better for both? Or should I just burn all of my catalogs and not let myself go on any forums anymore and stick with MFW? PLEASE HELP!!
  10. Research is my middle name, but it's so important to actually look at the curriculum and not just a sample page on a website. I've had to sell so much stuff that I thought would be great, but ended up not being right for us. Also, talking to others who use it.
  11. I just found a bunch of poetry books that my 6yr dd & 4 yr ds LOVE! Her favorite is called "Home" it's a journey through America. There are multiple author's of the poems, which are great, but the best part is that the books are by Thomas Locker. He's a fantastic illustrator, and the pictures really help the kids "get" the poems. He has quite a few. We also really like the one called "Walking With Henry" based on the life and works of Henry David Thoreau.
  12. Jean: I'm still in the search mode myself! One thing I did find that works as a really good supplement, is from a website called clicknkids.com/phonics and my dd loves it. We did HOP for a while, and she really liked the cd rom stuff but then finished that and didn't want to be constantly drilled in a book. I found the clicknkids, and she is doing really well. It has 100 lessons, they are doing it on their own (which my dd likes best) and then it shows how they have done at the end of the lesson. You can repeat the lessons if you need to. Tammi
  13. We live in east central Wisconsin. I'm torn between loving it and wanting to move. I'm a grass-is-always-greener type person! The winters are what I am not thrilled about. I would love to live somewhere where we can have fresh produce year round! We do live out in the country, and see animals all of the time. Every day, there are at least 20 or more deer practically in out backyard. They don't even run when we go on our deck or anything. We also have turkeys, birds of every kind, sandhill cranes and other little animals. My dd loves nature, and while I enjoy the beauty, it's more a beauty from afar thing. I'm a city girl. I would like to move to Kentucky, near Louisville or Lexington. Anyone from there? Tammi
  14. We are in Wisconsin-Green Lake. That's about an hour and 1/2 south of Green Bay in case anyone doesn't know! Tammi
  15. I am SOOO glad I read these posts! I have MFW 1st grade coming any day, and we are starting it right away. Then, because I was so impressed with all of the information I found, I ordered MFW Adventures, to start right when we finished 1st. The reason I'm glad I saw this, is that I keep looking at Winter Promise also, and have been lurking around, trying to find it for sale! I also have some WP history stuff to use/supplement when we do MFW Adventures, but I've been trying to find even more. I'm driving myself crazy and becoming addicted to buying used curriculum. I am going to try and stop looking at the for sale thread right now. Tammi
  16. I got all excited when I read your post and weighed myself on the scale. Sadly, yes, it did weigh me correctly. Worst of all, my dh now knows my weight, because we were setting it up and he was right there. Oh well. I am excited though-I am going to actually use it for the 1st time today!! Also, I'm using it as a reward type thing for the kids-very effective. Tammi
  17. Not only do I not love my voice, but it's my ACCENT I can't stand!! I am from Wisconsin, and lived near Madison for years, and yes, I did have an accent. We moved further north about 10 years ago, and it is much worse! People have even said my husband and I sound like the people in the move Fargo!!!!! Sorry-not to insult any of you from ND. Anyway, do any of you despise your accents? Tammi
  18. I had a Mike's last night-yeah!!! Now I feel part of the group! Actually, my confession is that lately I have liked Vodka & tonic with a ton of lime. Is that bad? Am I banned? Does anyone else love these in the summer? Tammi
  19. The bad news is, we don't even have a homeschool budget!!! My problem is, I buy books & workbooks that look good all year long-Amazon is my downfall. Then, I am constantly looking at curriculum, and everything looks good. So I end up buying much more than I use. I don't even WANT to estimate how much I've spent. Do I have to? Tammi
