  1. Yep, that's right, Ellie! I could potentially have three different schools next year if I don't have my youngest tag along with the psp. I would have 1) online, 1) private affidavit, 1) psp I don't forsee it being an issue if I opt to not enroll the youngest, but it may be something to consider so we don't step on any toes.
  2. Hi Ellie! This is our first year homeschooling. This year I filed an addidavit for my younger while my two high schoolers were covered through their online charter school. My 9th grader is tired of being tied to the computer for everything and has asked to be homeschooled next year. I don't feel brave enough to take on transcripts and such on my own so I will definitely be enrolling in a psp for support and guidance. It's not much more work to have my younger tag along, but I will have to meet their deadlines instead of my own. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm on the fence. I'm pretty disciplined, but a little more structure may be good. More structure or freedom...hmmm?
  3. Have you filed a private school affidavit for your younger kids AND used a psp (umbrella school) for your high schooler? I'm debating whether to sign up my 3rd grader for the psp along with my high schooler or just file another affidavit ourselves.
  4. My daughter us currently taking Spanish 1 using Rosetta Stone through an online charter school. We have decided to take a different path and homeschool a little more independently next year. Does anyone have any curriculum recommendations for her second year of Spanish, if we decide not to continue with Rosetta Stone? I'm wondering if we should just stick with Rosetta Stone so we don't have to worry about bridging any gaps. Any thoughts?
  5. That looks great, Crystal! I will look into that. I think it's something we could do. I was placing her in WHL because of the economics requirement for grade 12. Thanks for showing me this option. :)
  6. Are all the Exploring World History (Notgrass) books really needed for WHL? I just saw that this would cost another $90. Adding another student to our homeschool is going to hit our budget hard and I'm not seeing any used curriculum for sale.
  7. Thank you! We are having a wonderful year with MFW Adventures. I'm looking forward to adding WHL! I just thought of another question. Do the high school levels include any tests and such for grading purposes?
  8. Does MFW still have students use book basket for high school? If so, how critical is it? I only have experience with Adventures and have purchased ECC for next year. I've decided to pull one of my daughter's from her online charter school and am looking at WH&L for 10th grade. I have no experience homeschooling a high schooler. ACK!!!
  9. Lenya Heitzig and Penny Rose have several wonderful books. Live Beautifully: A study in the Books of Ruth and Esther is my favorite...so far! :-)
  10. Ouch! That does seem high, but I agree with Meriwether. If you can afford it and it's working well then stick with it.
  11. Spelling Workout Rod and Staff Building Spelling Skills by CLP (which I'm looking forward to using next year)
  12. I also try to plan our schedule and breaks similar to our local ps because it allows us to get together with good friends and family. I don't necessarily follow their exact schedule or plan to take the entire week off, but I do plan days off through out the year with this in mind.
  13. I agree that they both require about the same amount of teacher involvement. My daughter is using SWO- Level B this year for 2nd grade. She has been able to breeze through it with little direction. She enjoys it, but it seems like busywork. I purchased R&S and had planned to use it next year until I discovered Building Spelling Skills by CLP. I believe R&S can be done independently, but it depends on the age and ability of your child. A child who can read well and who no longer requires phonics review would have no problem. You can see a sample of R&S Spelling here http://www.milestone...d_Staff_Grade_2
  14. I wouldn't completely rule out Rod and Staff. I am currently using it with my second grader and love it. I find it to be a gentle, but steady progression in grammar. A lot of it can be done orally so it's just the right amount. I like that it will also cover some topics in writing. You can request a free grade level curriculum sample or view parts of it here http://info.mileston...ples/2/english/
  15. Welcome, Heather! We are in our first year of homeschooling using MFW Adventures. This forum is loaded with encouragement and resources! Enjoy!
  16. My daughter is using Spelling Workout this year. She is an advanced, avid reader and a natural speller. I was on the look out for something different and debated bumping her up a level in SWO or switching to R&S. I actually purchased R&S, but still felt it was not what I was looking for and never used it. I do love their grammar though and plan to continue with it. I read Cathy Duffy's review of Building Spelling Skills by Christian Liberty Press. It is exactly what I was looking for and I feel that spelling will no longer be busy work.
  17. Thanks so much, Donna! I'm learning so much and totally enjoying our first year homeschooling! I'm so thankful to all those who are helping me learn the ropes. :001_smile:
  18. Would anyone be willing to give me some tips on how to insert quotes from previous posts?
  19. Donna, I find your comments reassuring that we are on the right path with MFW. :001_smile:
  20. I've hopped around the MFW bloll and remember seeing How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World a few times.
  21. I plan to add in Children Like Me and Around the World in 80 Tales. We will definitely include Anne of Green Gables and Heidi. I've also purchased a lot of Highlights Top Secret Adventures country guide books from Ebay which will be helpful since we live overseas.
