  1. My DD is in 1st grade and really good with math and science. This is our first year HSing. I originally ordered SM but it was BOed so I got the math workbook from the PS. Well after 2 months of that I didn't feel like it was giving me enough how to teach it info so I switched us to MUS. Now we are ALMOST finished with the addition and moving to subtraction. DD already know how to add and subtract and I thought it was good to try to get the facts mastered, BUT I worry she is missing out on a lot. I have recently gotten my hands on MM. I really like it, but I worry that I'm screwing up things for my DD and I'm going to end up making her behind. WWYD? What program is working for you?
  2. I've been thinking about using Elemental History. http://www.elementalhistory.com/
  3. We started FLL1 in 1st. I was planning to start FLL2 and WWE2 for second, but after reading this and looking at the samples, I will probably use FLL2 with WWE1 for 2nd.
  4. Grammar FLL2 Writing WWE2 Spelling AAS 2 (just starting 1 now) Science Mr Q Earth History SOTW1 or Elemental History (we started SOTW this year and the kids eyes started glazing over about Ch 8 so we put it down.) Handwriting D'Nealian Cursive Bible ??? Math MUS Beta Language Spanish or Latin ??? Ballet Piano
  5. Glad to know I'm not the only mom not feeding her kids or "doing school."
  6. I just ordered AAS yesterday. We had been using Spelling Workout. She would do great for the test, but I don't think she was retaining much. I chose AAS to help her and me. I need help in what rules to teach and how!
  7. Lower the price and sell As Is. Clean carpets, fresh interior paint, clean everything, freshen curb appeal and be done with it. ETA IME Adding an extra 0.5-1% to buyers commission makes the buyer agent push your house more than a comparable house with less commission.
  8. Maybe if I died, but even then it would be HIGHLY doubtful. Seems kind of like giving you child away. Personally, I had children to HAVE children in my life to raise, love, and support.
  9. It could have been worse. You could have went through all that only to realize the opera was yesterday. Ha! That would be my luck. :tongue_smilie:
  10. "Liberty Kids on Netflix" I had no idea this existed! Thank you for saving my history! My kids aren't really into SOTW 1 so I'm putting it away until next years. They are going to LOVE these videos! PS I second holding off on WWE. ETA I think for handwriting you could just do daily copy work. Ex: Today is Wednesday, June 2, 2012. We are having a very warm summer.
  11. My warped way of thinking would lead me to believe something "special" was in the cake. Very strange!
  12. FWIW I "hear" it gets a lot better at level 3. I was forewarned to stick with it until then. :)
  13. Thank you all so much for your encouraging feedback! :)
  14. My kids are 6 & 3. Obviously my schooling is geared toward the 6 and the 3 is just along for the ride. We started the year off great. Then around Nov the kids eyes started glazing over so we put history on the shelf. Now, after a 2 month break we have started again. I like it but the kids, not so much. They are very big on science, math, and pretend play, which I allow a LOT of. I'm not sure how to proceed with history. Do I just continue to plug away at it or try again next year for 2nd grade? I don't want to be "behind" in our rotation, and I'm already fretting that my 3 yo will already be behind if I just keep him on the same rotation as my 6. Meaning he will not start the Ancient rotation until 2nd as is and 3rd if I hold off until next year. We are only on Chapter 10 so we would really have to plow through material to finish this year. I know in the grand scheme my worries are ridiculous, but I'm not sure how to proceed from here. Advise? :bigear:
  15. I am starting a declutter mission this week. I'm starting in the kitchen cabinets and going room to room, closet to closet and getting rid of stuff. I long for simplicity. The less you have, the less there is to clean. :D
  16. I think the idea of cursive going away is ridiculous. I think we are growing too dependent on technology. My kids will know print, cursive, and typing. Latin is a dead language, but I still see the value in teaching it. Some think text-ese is appropriate, but I think it is creating a generation of illiterates. Call me old fashion.
  17. Never! ETA You may have better luck setting up a table at the entrance of your grocery or hardware store.
  18. Contact one of the 3 credit bureaus (online) and put a fraud alert on your credit. They will then tell the other 2 agencies. They last for 90 days and then you can do it again. Plus, you can get free reports from each agency. I would advise you look at 1 every month during the 3 month alert. Good luck getting everything resolved.
  19. Pj bottoms or yoga pants and t's are the normal around here.
