  1. Here are some ideas I have come across from this site or just googling: Classical House of Learning Grammar Lit for Ancients http://www.amazon.com/Classical-House-of-Learning-Literature-Ancient-Times-Grammar-REQUIRED/lm/R271FNZDZS697D/ref=cm_lm_byauthor_title_full Classical House of Learning homepage http://www.classicalhouseoflearning.com/ I would say most of these are read alouds for grammar stage. My Logic stage dd picked one per time period as a reader http://www.muni.org/Departments/library/kids/Pages/HistoricalFiction.aspx I think this is my favorite SOTW link. She has a lapbook, literature and movie picks, and a host of other fun things to do http://runofthemillfamily.blogspot.com/p/story-of-world-resources-for-volume-one.html Here is one that matches up literature by stage from Sonlight for SOTW http://homescool-ed.blogspot.com/2007/04/sonlight-books-arranged-by-well-trained.html And then there is the AG suggestions, as well. HTH, Jen
  2. Homeschool in the Woods has a two disc combo with thousands of figures with or without written descriptions. You can make them wall or book size. The lady who runs it is Amy Pak and she is so nice and helpful. She also sells a timeline to put your figures in. It's great!
  3. I had America the Beautiful by Notgrass in my hands and really liked it. It is fast paced but you could draw it out to two years. The original texts in We the People are great and I loved the maps. I didn't feel like they were busy work but I am sure you could skip it or just show him in an atlas and on a globe instead of getting the maps. I didn't care for the activities book because my kids don't like crosswords and such but it was well put together. I had the literature pack that went with it. If you have more questions, let me know. I had it for about 2 weeks so I got to look at it thoroughly.
  4. Science Fusion. Secular and love it! http://www.hmheducation.com/sciencefusion-homeschool/
  5. Thames & Kosmos Little Labs http://www.thamesandkosmos.com/products/ll/ll.html
  6. The Human Anatomy and Physiology Apologia book and notebooks is the newest in the series and is harder than the other ones as well. My kids just love all the try-its, experiments and projects in HAP. We don't do the scripture copy work or the fascinating facts (which is like narration). But the kids love cutting pages and writing interesting facts about whatever system we are studying. But we are going to use Science Fusion as soon as we are done with HAP. We almost did a science curriculum just using Thames & Kosmos and a science encyclopedia or the Story of Science with the T&K Milestones kit, but Dh wanted the dc in a "real" science class so they can be ready for high school and college. Jen PS There are also some kits at Barnes and Noble that I have gotten with my teacher discount. There are some Grossology books and kits, as well.
  7. Is this your 11 or 8 year old? Now, as much as I don't like Apologia, we have been enjoying Human Anatomy and Physiology with the Notebooking Journal with my 9 and 11 yo. There are a lot of Try Its, Projects and Experiments that make the body come alive. We have mummified fruit, made a working lung from balloons and a gatorade bottle, fingerprinted, blood typed and used our sense of smell to taste and much more. If you do get it, I highly recommend getting the supply kit from CBD. It has almost EVERYTHING you need! We are going to do Science Fusion (a totally different approach since we are not young earth subscribers) when we finish Human Anatomy. Jen
  8. Since I didn't hear from any of you about online vocab, I was wondering if you have favorite vocab workbook. My dd just finished Wordly Wise for 5th grade and I want to wait until fall to start 6. I saw Evan Moor had some. Are any of those good? Any other suggestions?
  9. I am looking for a free vocabulary program for my 11 dd who just finished up Worldy Wise Grade 5. I want to wait until fall to start WW6. Do y'all know of any free online or downloadable vocabulary programs or curriculum that are any good. I see a few when I google it but I have no experience. Any advice? If there are no good vocab resources for free are there any paid online curriculm? What about traditional workbooks?
  10. I can't believe how many times I have looked at this site and missed the lapbook! Do y'all like it or is it just a lot of busy work? I would use it with a 9 year old reluctant reader. I thought it might help with reading comprehension along with the AG.
  11. We are going to be using Human Odyssey. I bought the Student and Teacher Pages A. They are a lot of busy work but good at cementing the information. The teacher pages help give ideas and have links, answers to student pages, etc. and the student pages have fill in the blanks, assessments at the end of each unit, other resource recommendations, etc. If you have any more questions about these products, feel free to pm me. I have them sitting right here and am trying to schedule them into Homeschool Tracker Online. We have found some ideas for filling in what they say is "online" through their program. It just has been a lot of work to schedule and figure out what is too much and what is not enough.
  12. Year round We take time off at CHristmas and then a trip to see family in summer. We do take various other weeks or days off as needed. Ds is going to be starting SOTW next week and we have it scheduled for 43 weeks. We start something else when we end another. The kids tend to just turn to mush if we take a long break. It is really counter-productive for us to take the whole summer off.
  13. I just received the K12 Intermediate World History Student Pages for Human Odyssey. Is anyone able to photocopy and email me pages 1-6? Mine are missing. Please! I am having trouble scheduling the first 3 lessons. TIA Jen
  14. Does anyone have a good article, web site, video, etc. on the definition of what history is and why it is important to study? Something for a 6th grader in mind is what I am looking for. I have found a lot of articles but they are geared towards adults. I'm looking to give her an understanding of not only what it is and why we study it but how each individual historian impacts history with their own perspective. TIA, Jen
  15. I found Sequential Spelling to be less than useful. There is no understanding of why we spell things the way we do. It is just lists of spelling words that aren't even always sequential. By the end of the year, my natural speller was barely spelling. We switched to All About Spelling and love it.
  16. WOW! That is just about the neatest unit study I have seen! I used to love Anne of Green Gables. Too bad my dd doesn't. I love the look of the Narnian study as well. Thanks for the tip!
  17. I was wondering the same thing. That seems really spendy but I like the format.
  18. IMHO, having just used Apologia Human Anatomy and Physiology with the notebooking journal, I don't think it is meaty enough for middle school. I can't even imagine what to add except getting a different middle school curriculum.
  19. I just got the book in the mail and it is missing pages 1-6. Could someone please copy and email them to me at jenniferlillehei@yahoo.com?
  20. Have you checked on currclick.com? I just looked up Anne of Green Gables and got several interesting looking curriculum.
  21. I want them to be able to read notes from their grandparents and other adults. I also think it is neater than printing because they have to slow down.
  22. We don't really do summer break. We tend to take more time at Thanksgiving and Christmas than we do in the summer. We have about 44 weeks of curriculum. We take a lot of vacations all year long :)
  23. We are going to be starting Science Fusion from HMH/Saxon Homeschool. It is a great program. We tried it and it was super. http://www.hmheducation.com/sciencefusion-homeschool/
