  1. My son LOVES the Kingdom sets (thanks heavens grandparents bought them). We have all the Kingdom sets except the jousting one and even have the Medievil Village.
  2. Sorry, but I have only done science with Legos. How old are your dc? Just found this, though: http://www.legoeducation.us/eng/characteristics/productType~Curriculum HTH, Jen
  3. No, I didn't think it is light..It was definitely a textbook with great supplementals. They cover everything. If anything could be added it would be more historical readers or read-alouds if you really want to beef it. They also have Exploring America for the high school. If you try Notgrass and return it, they send a very nice email on what they could do to better provide for me as a homeschooling mom. I think you will love it!
  4. Do you have the gregor the overlander set. It was written for elementary by the same authress who wrote the hungergames. My ds and dd love warrior cats also
  5. I don't mean to sound rude, but I think Sequential Spelling is terrible for dysgraphia. We tried it with both dysgraphic kids and it was a bust. We started everything over with All About Spelling. We do Typing Instructor and my kids are getting good. I think it is important to learn to be able to read cursive and write it but typing helps my dc so much. I don't write in cursive and neither does my dh. My dh has said nobody writes anything out at work and that he thinks keyboarding is way more important than writing cursive, especially with all the amazing ways we will be using electronics in the future. My dd has many more problems than my ds and I try not to be hard on her for switching or flipping. I do point it out to her but she can't always see it. When we do spelling, I correct it but in other writing I am not as strict. Otherwise the whole day would be correcting!
  6. You could do KISS Grammar for the rest of the school year. That would give you time to figure out exactly what you want.
  7. We had it here in the house for a couple of weeks. It was awesome! I didn't think it was light. It was 5 days a week and had the textbook reading, literature, original manuscripts from We the People book, mapping, tests and Bible. We loved it. We were going to use it over 2 years with a 6th and 4th grader when we were moving to DC. Unfortunately, we ended up not getting the detail and not needing to change our curriculum to US History. We are going to use it for my son when we are done with SOTW and use Notgrass' Exploring America for my dd since she will be in high school.
  8. Sorry I thought you said ages 6 and 8 not grades 6 and 8. We really did not enjoy Core F. The EHE is a bear, the books are long and dry and we did not enjoy it. We sent it back using their 18 week guarantee. I don't know what the "new" one has in it, though. Good luck!
  9. We do Awana from September to May (which I resisted until last year and now love) and do a unit study in the summer. I think we are going to to Kids of Integrity this summer. It's free. We are definitely big on memorization. It allows them to learn God's word so they can use i when they need it in their hearts. http://www.kidsofintegrity.com/
  10. Have you looked at Notgrass' America the Beautiful for middle school? It is very independent and is so wonderful :) I thought I would just throw this out there.
  11. This is what we do as well.
  12. I would start at the beginning as well. I have a 3rd and 5th grader that I just started with last week. I do different supplemental reading with each of them. We beef it up a little more for the older. We are having a great time. I have figured out a "schedule" for the older as to when we are done and what we will do for her in high school. I still have some options for when I am done in four years with my younger.
  13. I have been homeschooling my 9 & 11 yo for only 2 years and I am the queen of dropping curriculum. Every grammar/writing program we have tried has been a failure but all for different reasons: Sonlight, IEW, Easy Grammar, Shurley. We dropped Sonlight this year in favor of SOTW and have regained our love for history. We won't be continuing with Apologia science. We are still debating whether to continue this geography. I think the only constant we have had is math.
  14. Teaching Textbooks!! As simple as it gets!
  15. I love the ACS site but isn't it only for 10 or so weeks of instruction? Thanks for the quarksandquirks site!
  16. Ooh, I forgot seterra.net. Free geography software. Awesome.
  17. We use Trail Guide to World Geography and Trail Guide to US Geography by GeoMatters and I really like it. I have also heard of something about Visualize Geography...something like that. It is spendy but it looked amazing.
  18. This was recommended by someone here. I got a bunch writing books for $1 each plus a discount using LEARNINGJAN. http://teacherexpress.scholastic.com/super-sentences-perfect-paragraphs
  19. We do watch a lot of pbs shows and educational tv as well. Thanks for all the suggestions. If you think of more let me know.
  20. Where do I find the Black Arrow? Is it a TV show or movie? I see some youtube videos.... Oh, I forgot to add that my kids LOVE Mr. Bean on Netflix. SO funny.
  21. I haven't found any so far, but during the Scholastic $1 day sale I got a ton of grammar workbooks and we are doing those. Last 3 days have been much better than with any LA program/curriculum I have done so far (Sonlight, Easy Grammar, Shurley, etc.). A lot cheaper, too.
