  1. A look into some of their eyes spoke volumes. Very hard times, indeed
  2. Thanks everyone I am going to register at that site, RC, and will ask for advice.
  3. If the shelter is a no-kill shelter, you shouldn't feel bad. It is a shelter that performs euthanasia , and their "keep" timeis very short because they are so very full. The humane society has no room at all. And a waiting list. Unless he keeps the aggressive behavior up, we will probably keep him until we find a home for him.
  4. We've adopted a stray---or rather a stray has adopted us. Let me be upfront and say while this is a cute cuddly dog, I already have 2 dogs and am really not wanting a 3rd. Our local shelter is full to the max and our city animal shelter is not a no-kill shelter and they too are full. We've done all the lost dog routine and he's been with us almost 2 months. If there were a humane way to pass this dog on to a diff owner, I would do it ASAP He is a young dog prob over 6 months and under a year. He looks like one of our bichons did at his age but has a stubby tail and is much more prone to the "chase" Maybe some terrier? Anyway, my immed problem is that he has started growling and becoming possessive at times. Once was when he was lying next to me and my dtr tried to pick him up. Another time was when the dog was aleep, my dh woke him up to take him to his crate. He growls and acts like he might bite. He hasn't yet. If he does ,he will be off to the shelter and will have to take his chances. I can't keep a dog that bites. What can I do to help him stop the aggressive behavior?
  5. You may try over at fatfreevegan.com and cancerproject.org/recipes for various recipes. Small world. Kathryn at the cancerproject is one of my dd's youth leaders at church. She probably in one of dd's inspirations for switching to vegan.
  6. --I'm not sure I've ever had a post that generated this many replies. :) I do want to support her in her dietary choices. I respect that she is of an age to make decisions about what she chooses to eat. She has been researching vegan recipes, and we've tried a few with mixed results. She is willing to cook foods that she thinks she can handle. Problem is she's at school(1st time ever) from 9a-4p and I've returned to work full time. I'm a nurse, so often don't get home until 8-9pm on the days I work. She's a dancer and often doesn't get home until 8-9 in the evening 3xwkly. So, I don't have the time to invest as I did when both my dtrs went vegetarian a few years ago. Then, we had a problem that one of the previous poster mentioned--they ere more carb-terians than vegetarians. They both chose to stop being vegetarians. Thank you all for websites, suggestions, etc. I'm leaving to go get her now but will come back and reread menus and check out websites and check library for books. Thanks again
  7. I don't know this exactly applies but it's the first song that popped into my mind. (maybe it not so off afterall:001_huh:) You know it ain't easy by J Lenon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OdBV971_Fw
  8. I want to support her, I really do. But---I don't want to buy expensive food when we're on a budget I don't want to spend extra kitchen time to make this work I don't want her health to suffer because she's not giving her body what it needs Recipes, thoughts, suggestions appreciated.
  9. Matters a lot for song selection. My recommendations--- Nothing from Annie (way overdone) as well as --sorry--Popular from Wicked or Les Mes. A nice one I've heard is I can hear the bells from Hairspray Edited to offer from my musical theater child of 5 years---The Unbirthday song from Alice in Wonderland, Change in me Beauty and Beast, Do Re Me sound of Music, Actually she said Annies You're never dressed without a s-m-i-l-e works if you use attitude, Don't rain on my parade, Once upon a December from Anastacia,You're a Good Man Charlie Brown---Lucy-My new philosophy (funny),Good Morning Baltimore,
  10. Great posts, great info. I am def changing my eating habits--hello, spinach--and am taking vitamins. It's helpful to hear from others. The eye dr I saw was "you have it, there's nothing you can do for it, and btw, you pay as you go out" Talk about disheartening. I have an appointment with a specialist next wk. Thanks again
  11. It is the dry kind thankfully; I am taking vitamins and OTC eye drops. I have an appointment with a specialist next week but basicly I've been told there's very little to nothing that can be done.
  12. Anybody else have this at a young age? Just dx' this week**and am in state of shock** and would like to hear from others.
  13. Maine coon cats are often called the "gentle giants" and are known for their playfulness (even after the kitten stage) and good temperment. Sounds like the mama bear coming out in the kitty cat.
  14. and I would donate in a heartbeat. I am very impressed with your little scout's vision. Juliette (Lowe) would be pleased at her sisterly spirit. If you're not aware of this, Juliette as a young girl also did charity/helping kind of profects both by herself and in groups with her friends. Sometimes with hilarious and almost diasterous results!
  15. how do they get those swirls and what I think looks like soft ice cream frosting dollups on top? They make the cupcake look so pretty. Do they have icing tips or....?
  16. was a show on moms with multiples. One lady had 3 healthy beautiful triplets but had been pregnant with quads. Her dr had recommended selective reduction in order for the other 3 to live. She saw moms with quads that were healthy and well while on the show. She was in tears and grieving as she told Oprah about the choice they made. All she could think about was that lost child. It was years ago but that image has never left my mind.
  17. Since my dds turned into teenagers, my dh and I have done a scavenger hunt for a final present. We like it because they're older and don't get as many gifts so it's a fun way to end up the Christmas tree time. The prize is always an activity type gift that we play after they find it. One year it was Rock Band, another year Deluxe Scrabble, etc I'm stumped this year. I am looking for suggestions for a fun activity gift for 3 girls-ages 14,15, and 17- and a boy aged 14. Rescue me, Hive! please, please, please!
  18. I'm not sure what I think of this. My family is invited to a "cash" party for a 15 yr old boy. Exactly what it sounds like-you bring cash. I'd be spending the money anyway, no shopping for me, but--but--it just feels wrong. What do you think?
  19. The burial has already taken place. I am planning to take some food to the house--I think the lasagna suggestion is perfect. It helps to get some info like this about customs/traditions. It's already a difficult enough time--I wouldn't want to add to their distress.
  20. for the info. Are there any type of clothing preferences I should observe? I would typicallly wear a skirt/blouse or dress type outfit. But I know that child's mom always has legs covered as well as hair
  21. In addition to homeschooling my kids, I am also a RN. I have taken care of a young boy on a ventilator at his home for about 6 months. He died Friday night. His death was not unexpected but it was still very very painful . This is a very devout Muslim family, and I want to respect their traditions. But I'd also like to let them know of the love I have for their little boy, and my sympathies. I'd appreciate anyone that could share info with me.
