  1. I'm so sorry. It's so hard. You were her best friend to the very end...you made the right decision for her. (((Hugs))) ~Kim
  2. My son recently went to the pediatrician for his yearly check up. He'll be entering high school next year, so he had to get some shots--pertussis was included. Dr. said they are seeing a resurgence of pertussis in older kids. HTH. Kim
  3. If your kids are allergic to animals, be careful. Guinne pigs can be worse than cats as far as allergies goes. But, if allergies aren't an issue, they make cute pets. Their little squeaks and whistles are precious! Kim
  4. No. That's not even something I've ever considered...thankfully. I hope mine (19yo) doesn't bring that up! My dh owns a gun for protection, but it's locked away. He's grown up enough to deal with it safely though. :) ~Kim
  5. Probably Brooke. Maybe Jason. But, I hope it's Syesha! She sings better than the other two, but she bores me. I think she'll be great on Broadway though! Kim
  6. Thanks for your very thoughtful reply. It's very helpful. I had heard that the math results were impressive. While reading is my daughter's biggest struggle right now, there are some math concepts that she misses. Still, maybe the expense of Kumon is not the answer. Again, I appreciate your reply. ~Kim
  7. Wow, that's interesting! I didn't think I'd get to talk to someone who had actually owned a Kumon Center. Thanks for replying, and your insights are very helpful. Reading is where she struggles the most, so maybe I'd better look into other remedial options. She CAN read, she just struggles with speed and fluency. She is far behind her 4th grade peers. Like I mentioned above to another post-er, sometimes I fear that it is the fact that I taught her to read that is causing her to struggle. Maybe I missed something critical. ??? I guess I wanted a "professional" to figure out what's holding her back. Kumon is probably not the right place for that. Or, maybe she just needs to read, read, read! Thanks ~Kim
  8. My daughter went back to school this year, and it appears that I've already fallen into the "it's someone else's job" mentality! Thanks for the reminder that I am still capable of tutoring/teaching my child! I guess I wonder if maybe I missed something along the way which has caused her to struggle.... Kim
  9. Good thoughts. Thanks for sharing. I know nothing about Kumon except that there is a new center near our home and that my daughter is struggling in math and reading.
  10. Does anyone know anything about or have any experience with the Kumon math and reading centers? Good? Bad? I'd like to hear your opinions. Thanks! Kim
  11. Yep. I'm a regular swimsuit gal too. One piece, tankini or bikini...depending on the mood and the company! I never wear a bikini in public, just in my own backyard! Kim
  12. Do the massage thing, but also use a pierced ear cleaning solution (like what they gave you when she first got them pierced) 3 times a day for awhile. Rubbing alcohol would probably work fine, if you have that. HTH! Kim :)
  13. I have it but haven't used it much. However, my dd took a wonderful art class (meaning it was more than just crafts!) last year, and I noticed that the teacher (a real artist!) had the book. I could tell some of the techniques she taught them were from the book. The "parts to whole" is a great teaching technique. I did, actually, use that part of the book with my kids. The results were really cool! Kim :)
  14. We've always had TLP, but now I'm intrigued by PP. Thanks for starting this thread. Kim :)
  15. Yeah, BTDT with one of mine too. It is freaky, but nothing to be too concerned about. I discovered a great way to get the blood out of the sheets, etc. Believe it or not, I spray Murphy's Oil Soap on it! It works every time! Sometimes I might grind in a little Oxy too. Hang in there! Kim
  16. I know...she's a maniac! Nestof3, you rock!!!
