  1. Alrighty! My sweet DS cannot stand zipper/button pants and we are in the market for some new dress pants for Easter. Any thoughts where I can find some elastic waist/pull on dress pants in a size 8? I was getting them at kmart, but now he is in the older boy section and they don't have them in that section...any thoughts on where to get some comfy ones that won't break the budget??? I am so tired of the tears every Sunday morning!:tongue_smilie: TIA! Melissa in St Louis
  2. I definately want to get what would be very beneficial, and at the same not waste funds on unnecessaries. I love the looks of Singapore so far...we'll see Monday how it goes! :001_smile: Melissa in St Louis
  3. Yes, that sounds perfect! :D I am very very new to Singapore, so I still don't know all that is available. I actually don't know what I'm doing at all! I have read rave reviews about the challenging word problems...at this age, do I need that? Or will we be on math-overload? Thanks so much ladies, again! Melissa in St Louis
  4. I just got singapore math 1b to use with my first grader for the remainder of the year. I got the textbook and the workbook, and a friend told me that she greatly reccommends the teacher guide as well since it gives lots of great ideas on how to implement the "singapore philosphy." Problem is, I can seem to find the teacher's guide for less than $40!!! Is it really that good = $40???? I am quite math phobic, and I'd love some solid teaching ideas... Do I need the manual? Should I look for a used one? HELP!:tongue_smilie: TIA! Melissa in St Louis
  5. What is going on here? My ds 6 has bad allergies and excema. On Saturday, his eye was a bit red and he was rubbing it frequently, but I chalked it up to allergies. Then, Sunday morning, he woke up with crusty eye so I took him to Urgent Care to get Pink Eye Drops. The eye drops have significantly helped (he looks almost all better), but now he is getting little bumps on his face. Kind of blistery, red, not too many....this sweetie has such sensitive skin and usually has a small rash /blotchiness at least somewhere, but this is strange because the blisters are just a few inches down from the Pink Eye eye.... he currently has heat rash on insides of knees and elbows, and this looks a lot different than that. He also has 2 of the little red blisters on his forearms. We just started taking good vitamins and fish oil about a week ago - is this any kind of reaction? I am not the freak out and panic and run to the doctor type, but if he has something wrong I want to get it taken care of....(especially since homeschool confrence in StL is on Thursday and the kiddos are going to Camp Nana):tongue_smilie: Thanks!!!!!! 6. I want something to use alongside ShillerMath for my upcoming 2nd grader...Shiller is Montessori math, and I love it, but maybe I need something more? I have been reading all kinds of great reviews for BJU math, but then read a few that said it is super teacher-intensive....lots of mom cutting, glueing, etc. I want to be very involved, but I don't really want to be cutting, glueing, etc, IYKWIM. I read great things about CLE, also, but then read that it moves really quickly. We I read somewhere that Math Mammoth is "Singapore for the rest of us," and that interests me since Singapore is so highly reccommended (but scares me). So, :tongue_smilie:! What do you all think? TIA! Melissa in St Louis
  7. Thanks, Dee! I had never looked at Math Mammoth! I will check it out!:auto:
  8. We use Montessori-based Shiller Math and LOVE it. HOWEVER -- I feel the need (because I am insane) to supplement this with some sort of math worksheets or drills. What did/do you use? What did/do you like/dislike about it? I know there are free sheets online, but I want someone to think math for me. I had horrible math anxiety in school to the point of actually having to excuse myself from class to go toss my cookies because I was so freaked out. SO, OBVIOUSLY I want my cuties to not have that problem. Fun and low-stress + lots of learning = a happy mom! :D TIA!!!!! Melissa in St Louis
  9. Put cut up, thawed chicken breasts in crock pot with a splash of vinegar, a bit of water, and cover generously with BBQ sauce. In the morning (or several hours later), it is falling apart and super yummy. If you need to thicken it up a bit, just put it on the stove "lid-off." :D HTH! Melissa in St Louis
  10. This is great, thanks!!! It has been 10 years at least sice I've skated. And never before with little ones. Thank God my brother is going along! :D Melissa in St Louis
  11. The kiddos and I are going ice skating this morning at an indoor rink -- how many layers/what do we wear? Thanks! Melissa in St Louis
  12. I've been wanting to ask the same thing, but then I get here and get....sidetracked. :D :lurk5: Melissa in St Louis
  13. Wilson's Case for Classical Education. I remember thinking I really liked it UNTIL I got to the chapter about homeschooling when he said Christian mothers would be better off volunteering at a crisis pregnancy center and sending the kiddos to a classical school. I know what he meant (like, you'd need to have that kind of school available and be able to afford it), but it rubbed me the wrong way. Rest of it -- :thumbup1: Melissa in St Louis
  14. It's a multi-vitamin, chewable, as added omega or dha stuff, and kids beg for it' 'cause it's so yummy! Let me know this exists!:D TIA! Melissa in St Louis
  15. in short intervals and stir between each. I always use almond bark instead of white chocolate chips. To me, it melts MUCH smoother than white chocolate chips, but I don't know if it will work in your recipe. HTH, Melissa in St Louis
  16. Thanks Kate and Vanessa! Kate, your pages are great! Thanks!:) Vanessa, I knew I read about the questions one of the 1,000 times I have checked WTM out of the library...can't WAIT for the new addition to come out so I can purchase that puppy! :D Thanks ladies! Melissa in St Louis
  17. But at least the brother is the one he'd pick FIRST. Kind of a complement!? Right??;) Melissa in St Louis
  18. Anyone have a link to (or suggestions for questions to put on my own) forms to fill out for science experiments? We are doing some human body experiments in 1st grade here and I'd like something that documents the experience....what did we use? what did we want to find out? what did we find out? etc... nothing overbearing, just something that keeps us focused and looks good in our science notebook. :) TIA! Melissa in St Louis
  19. I had never heard of this so I checked out the website....is looks like they do not have all of the levels out for this series yet? I would want level 2 or 3...is that not available? Looks awesome, btw,. TIA! Melissa in St Louis
