  1. To me this means stretchy shirt that shows my shape. Is that wrong? If it falls away from my tummy, I CANNOT look pregnant. NOt that there's anything wrong with that, but not what I am going for. Anyone have a picture of this elusive v-neck shaped shirt??? Thank you so much, you guys are saving me. I think I was trying to channel my inner hockey mom with the vest adn updo maybe?;)
  2. Can someone give a link maybe of what this scarf should be doing? Please please???
  3. My mom said the same thing! About the v neck and the scarf! Ugh! I am not sure about the scarf. I am VERY um, well endowed on top and I am scared of adding something there (scarf). I was thinking the vest would like "suck everything together" kind of like a sausage in casing?:001_huh:
  4. Is this outfit appropriate (read: good enough) to wear on NYE to the nightclub/restaurant that we partly own/hubby performs there? Ugh. I am thinking hair up (then I can color it instead of having to get a haircut)? Please stylefairy, come visit me with your wand!;) Melissa in St Louis
  5. Black pants with a black vest and colorful turtleneck or Black pants with a colorful vest and black turtleneck??? I hate shopping. I hate clothes. (Maybe, I love ice cream too much and now hate my figure???? Interesting!!):tongue_smilie: TIA! Melissa in St Louis
  6. It has been a while since I have read TWTM, but I think it said for the student to read a section of science from the encyclopedia and then write a summary about it. We are just finishing up studying animals that way, and we are moving on to human body. My plan is to use God's Deisgn for Life: Human Body. Since we are using this text instead of an encyclopedia, do we still do the summaries? Yes, right? TIA! (Can't wait till the new TWTM comes out - then it will be in my back pocket all the time! :)) Melissa in St Louis
  7. Trivium Academy, of course! :D www.triviumacademy.blogspot.com Melissa in St Louis
  8. We use the timeline figures from Homeschool in the Woods (love them!). We make a card out of one of them with a short phrase to remember and make another to put on the wall timeline. TIA!
  9. We are memorizing them in the order we have covered them in Biblioplan: Creation Adam and Eve Noah Ice Age Tower of Babel Sumerian cunieform Sargon/Akkadia Abraham Hammarabi Gilgamesh Upper/Lower Egypt is Unified Cheops How bad is it? What do I fix? :bigear:
  10. "fix" what we have done so far, then go forward exactly chronologically? I am trying so hard here and I am not cutting it! I want SOTW with Bible history included. I thought I had it figured out!
  11. Ok, we started doing SOTW Ancients on the Biblioplan schedule this year (the events are covered in a different order, by location kind of)...I thought we were doing so well! Until I realized that I am having ds memorize the timeline events IN THE WRONG ORDER! :w00t: We are learning them according to how we have been studying them, not exactly in the order they happened. This was SO well thought out! How did this happen????:confused1: More importantly: how do I fix this? We just started Egypt before Christmas break, so there is not a TON that we (*I*) have messed up, but :tongue_smilie:! He enjoys memorizing the events, and I think it is useful....HELP!!:bigear: Melissa in St Louis
  12. Fill a coffee cup 1/3 full of water and 1/3 full of lemon juice. Microwave for 2 minutes. Add a bit of sugar and fill the rest of the way with jack daniels. Chug it down, dress warm, go to sleep, and sweat it out. Works every time! Melissa in St Louis
  13. I give baked goods to neighbors, AWANA leaders, Sunday School Teachers, piano teacher, and family....why? Because my kids love to help me bake and it is a gift we can make affordably. I would LOVE to give those people a gift card to Borders or amazon.com, but that would add up to a lot of $$$ very quickly. I'd rather say "I tried" than "I didn't think of you." :auto: Melissa in St Louis
  14. My son really enjoys brainteaser puzzle type things and we do "logic" one afternoon a week. We finished what we were doing and I'm gearing up for spring -- help! :D I've looked at Letter Links, Logic Links, Mind Benders, Hands on Logic, and several others. Right now I like Mind Benders and Letter Links, but I am open to others. Anyone used any of these? TIA! Melissa in St Louis
  15. What do you like as a reference for human body for 1st grade? We have been using DK Animal Encyclopedia (polar bear front) for our study of animals, but we're getting ready to move on. DS has a very (VERY) weak stomach and will throw up if there are too many yucky pictures. (He threw up last week because he saw his sister's plate of rice, and "rice is gross." Totally not his fault, I feel bad for him.) SOOOO, it needs to be very informative and challenging, but not too graphic. I suppose I could head to Borders and look at books with him near the trash cans to see what he likes, but if any of the throw up would get on the books, I'm sure they would charge me. :glare: TIA! Melissa in St Louis
  16. My 1st grade son loves to read, loves Growing with Grammar, loves to spell (thank you spelling bee!:D), and enjoys typing on the computer....what am I supposed to be doing for "writing"? I would like to do some kind of "writing" 2 days/week coming up....any suggestions on what we should be doing? I looked at Evan-Moor 6-Trait Daily Writing and I really liked the look of it, but I am unsure. I want some kind of "resource" to hold my hand, so that I am sure writing will happen. Thoughts?:tongue_smilie: TIA! Melissa in St Louis
  17. Are you trying to roll them out too thin? Mine are maybe 1/4-1/8 inch thick. Try rolling our dough, chilling with cold pan, push cookie cutter into dough, then put spatula UNDER cutter and cookie - don't remove cutter till it is on the pan. Did that make sense??
  18. Oops. Forgot to say: leave the frozen metal pan on the dough for 5 minutes or so and then it should be chilled aenough again to work with!
  19. Take a cookie sheet and put it in the freezer --then set it on top of your dough once it is rolled out. The cold metal of the pan will "suck out" the heat that the dough has picked up just from being handled. Are your problems mostly rolling it out? Or cutting it? Or do they lose shape once you bake them? I'll try my best to help!:) Melissa in St Louis
  20. How about a gift certificate for a massage? I saw you said he has a bad back - my hubby does too, and I got him a massage card one time with a note that said "Nothing Says 'I Love You' Like Paying Someone Else to Rub Your Back!" He roared with laughter! AND loved the massage. I doubt he would have gone otherwise. I know lots of back problems are tricky, but if you call around (or even call a chiropractor for a reccommend) you can find one that is reasonable that will be soothing and not "mess with" his back. :) I know there is a place here (seems nationwide" called Massage Envy that charges $40 for the first visit. Not bad! Good luck! Melissa in St Louis
  21. Anyone used this? I have a 1st grade DS who loves animals, is a voracious reader, and is eager to learn...we did the recommended 20 weeks of "pick an animal and narrate about it" thru the fall, but I'm not really sure if he learned anything new during that time. I have been looking at God's Design for Life for human body and plant studies coming up...I'm wondering if we should maybe re-do animals using GDFL so that we "learn" something? Or should we move forward and study the body?:001_huh: Melissa in St Louis
  22. My mom is getting the kiddos at Wii for Christmas and we are both clueless about it...today's question is: there is a game with lots of sports on it (tennis, golf, baseball, etc, i think) that she bought and she is wondering if we want the add on thingies to attach to the controllers that look like golf clubs or whatever. She heard they break easily but wonders if they will be cool. Kiddos in question are 3 and 6 and pretty careful. But not all the time! ;) Thanks so much! Melissa in St Louis
  23. Thanks for all the great responses! :D I suppose it depends greatly on the length of service, type of church, etc, etc. I loved hearing how each family is unique! Melissa in St Louis
  24. I have a 6yo DS and a 3yo DD and they (praise the Lord!) have been doing pretty well in church lately. DS is happy to follow the words on the screen and look up verses and read library books. DD is generally occupied looking at the choir and candles and stringing beads. Don't get me wrong, I AM THRILLED that we have been having such good behavior, but I don't know if they are supposed to be doing something more "churchy" or not. At this age, is the goal just to sit quietly no matter what you are doing? Or should they be doing Bible-related activity pages or something? Just trying my best to do whatever I'm supposed to be doing, Melissa in St Louis
  25. Where can I go to get cute, cheap, and quick portraits of the kiddos? :001_huh: Melissa in St Louis PS - I know I should have this done already, but I was waiting for the 60% off dress sale for DD at Kohl's!
