  1. I so agree. Thank you all for your help on this.
  2. I put these in my cart. I thought I had responded to, but it looks like my post got lost. these look great.
  3. I am thinking of putting together a military history curriculum for my 8th grade ds next year. Do you know of a good encyclopedia for this? Has anyone done this for their dc? Is there a curriculum already made and put together? He has gone through the rotation 2 times. I thought this might be a good time to go through and do something fun before high school while we fine tune his writing, math and maturity.
  4. 24) Through My Eyes by Tim Tebow on audio I am a huge Tebow fan and I cannot decide if it was the guy reading this book who drove me crazy or if it was Tim. The tone was pious, the message was good. The tone lacked the humility that Tebow supposedly endows. Has anyone read the book and did the book have that undertone? I have no desire to check it out for myself. The message was good, but I had to wade through a lot to get it. I live where football got its start, so I am a fan of football. I read football books and I have to tell you this was the worst book on football I have read in the last 30 years. Every chapter contained at least five howevers and more of courses than I cared to count. The descriptions of plays lacked description--it was very basic. Good Grief he even had a co-author. Drew Brees wrote a fabulous book called Coming Back Stronger: Unleashing the Hidden Power of Adversity. Colt McCoys book was good and the title is Growing up Colt Frank Gifford wrote The Whole Ten Yards. This was 4 stars. A wonderful story of determination and grit is Rise and Walk: The Trial and Triumph of Dennis Byrd. Brians Song---what a book. The story of Brian Piccallo and his friendship with Gale Sayers while Brian battled cancer. And one I read when I was a young girl was about a Penn State Player and his younger brother with cancer. This book was my introduction to Joe Paterno. I believe it was called Eric, but I couldn't find it in my library catalog or on Amazon. ** I wrote this review before I was sure what my problem with the book was. It is the voice of the reader. I googled Tebows voice, Tim's voice is much more humble than any that was spoken on the audiobook. ** 23) A Dream For Hannah by Jerry Eicher. 22) Much Ado About Nothing Shakespeare on audio 21) A Love That Multiplies, Duggars on Audio 20) Ella Finds Love, Eicher 19) Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins 18) The Duggars 20 and counting by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar 17) Emotionally Healthy Spiritually by Peter Scazarro 16) Organized Simplicity by Tsh Oxenreider 15) The Survivor by Beth Wiseman (yet another amish book) 14) The Art of Mingling by Jeanne Martinet audio book 13) Growing up Amish by Beth Wiseman 12) Ella's Wish By Jerry Eicher 11) Growing up Amish by Ira Wagler 10) The Healing by Wanda Brunstetter 9) Christmas in Sugarcreek by Shelley Shepard Gray 8) The Dark Tide 7) Little Men, Louisa May Alcott on Audio 6) Winter of the Red Snow. 5) The Daniel Fast by Susan Gregory. 4) A Wedding Quilt for Ella by Jerry Eicher 3) Longing by Karen Kingsbury. 2) Little Women by Alcott 1) Midummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare

  6. I downsized my kids' clothing and that helped so much with laundry. The downside of that is I actually have to keep up with laundry. lol I used Organized Simplicity. She has the reader set up a mission statement with the family before starting with minimizing. It helped with minimizing and the organizing to use the mission statement. I have a small basket for my dh to sit his stuff in in the living room. I have a small crate for his mail, bills etc. it is not organized, but it is confined--which is 1/2 the battle. I think that I am going to hav eto try the color coded dishes.
  7. I really enjoyed the Dark Tide, I am wondering if anyone can recommend other similar books on American history I finished another book this week. 22) Much Ado About Nothing Shakespeare on audio (we have been in the car alot this week) This book was a hoot. 21) A Love That Multiplies, Duggars on Audio 20) Ella Finds Love, Eicher 19) Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins 18) The Duggars 20 and counting by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar 17) Emotionally Healthy Spiritually by Peter Scazarro 16) Organized Simplicity by Tsh Oxenreider 15) The Survivor by Beth Wiseman (yet another amish book) 14) The Art of Mingling by Jeanne Martinet audio book 13) Growing up Amish by Beth Wiseman 12) Ella's Wish By Jerry Eicher 11) Growing up Amish by Ira Wagler 10) The Healing by Wanda Brunstetter 9) Christmas in Sugarcreek by Shelley Shepard Gray 8) The Dark Tide 7) Little Men, Louisa May Alcott on Audio 6) Winter of the Red Snow. 5) The Daniel Fast by Susan Gregory. 4) A Wedding Quilt for Ella by Jerry Eicher 3) Longing by Karen Kingsbury. 2) Little Women by Alcott 1) Midummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare
  8. we use eucerin for eczema. When we have a bad outbreak I have that person soak in an Aveeno oatmeal bath. the wal mart brand doesn't cut it here.

  10. I have a busy week so I don't know if I will have a big reading week coming up. I am reading Rumspringa, Much Ado About Nothing and Lunch Money with my kids. I have read several recommandations from others doing the reading challenge and they have livened up my usual reading, so thank you all. 19) Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins I confess I had to know how the trilogy ends so I read the epilogue in the final book when I passed it at wal-mart. What a good book. I am on hold for the rest. 18) The Duggars 20 and counting by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar 17) Emotionally Healthy Spiritually by Peter Scazarro 16) Organized Simplicity by Tsh Oxenreider 15) The Survivor by Beth Wiseman (yet another amish book) 14) The Art of Mingling by Jeanne Martinet audio book 13) Growing up Amish by Beth Wiseman 12) Ella's Wish By Jerry Eicher 11) Growing up Amish by Ira Wagler 10) The Healing by Wanda Brunstetter 9) Christmas in Sugarcreek by Shelley Shepard Gray 8) The Dark Tide 7) Little Men, Louisa May Alcott on Audio 6) Winter of the Red Snow. 5) The Daniel Fast by Susan Gregory. 4) A Wedding Quilt for Ella by Jerry Eicher 3) Longing by Karen Kingsbury. 2) Little Women by Alcott 1) Midummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare
  11. 17) Emotionally Healthy Spiritually by Peter Scazarro I wish I had more time to read this book because it was full of wisdom. A groundbreaking work on the integration of emotional health and contemplative spirituality that current models of discipleship fail to address. Many sincere followers of Christ-followers who are really passionate for God, join a church, participate weekly in a small group, serve with their gifts, and are followers who are considered "mature"-remain stuck at a level of spiritual immaturity. And even more so when faced with interpersonal conflicts and crises. 16) Organized Simplicity by Tsh Oxenreider 15) The Survivor by Beth Wiseman (yet another amish book) 14) The Art of Mingling by Jeanne Martinet audio book Ths was a fun book. I learned that people in my location do not know how to mingle, they usually find their friends and stop without further circulation. She gave tips on how to mingle, fun lines and how to gracefully leave a bore. 13) Growing up Amish by Beth Wiseman 12) Ella's Wish By Jerry Eicher 11) Growing up Amish by Ira Wagler 10) The Healing by Wanda Brunstetter 9) Christmas in Sugarcreek by Shelley Shepard Gray 8) The Dark Tide 7) Little Men, Louisa May Alcott on Audio 6) Winter of the Red Snow. 5) The Daniel Fast by Susan Gregory. 4) A Wedding Quilt for Ella by Jerry Eicher 3) Longing by Karen Kingsbury. 2) Little Women by Alcott 1) Midummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare
  12. Thanks, I put this on hold. I really need a week long blizzard to catch up on all my reading.
  13. I am on a amish kick right now. I also still have the same several going from last week.
  14. Jane Kirkpatrick has a historical series change and cherish. It is 3 books. The first one is A Clearing in the Wild. I loved these books. Emma is a strong woman. A lot of history about the Willamette Valley and wagon train west. Young Emma Wagner chafes at the constraints of Bethel colony, an 1850s religious community in Missouri that is determined to remain untainted by the concerns of the world. A passionate and independent thinker, she resents the limitations placed on women, who are expected to serve in quiet submission. In a community where dissent of any form is discouraged, Emma finds it difficult to rein in her tongue–and often doesn’t even try to do so, fueling the animosity between her and the colony’s charismatic and increasingly autocratic leader, Wilhelm Keil. Eventually Emma and her husband, Christian, are sent along with eight other men to scout out a new location in the northwest where the Bethelites can prepare to await “the last days.” Christian believes they’ve found the ideal situation in Washington territory, but when Keil arrives with the rest of the community, he rejects Christian’s choice in favor of moving to Oregon.

  16. I am in the middle of crocheting a cupcake cradle purse. I added 3 skeins of yarn in my stashbusting goal, lol. I have to say that the cradle purse is going to be beautiful when I am done. It has a sparkly violet bottom(cake) sparkly white middle(frosting) and a sparkly red cherry on top. ALL of the pics show beautiful work. wow.
  17. I agree. We have sort of done a mini unit on Louisa May Alcott. I had never realized how influenced by her father she was. I have not delved into her darker stuff, have you?

  21. The really great thing about american history is how much can be done locally. I think that AtB is enjoyable and I am so glad we chose this for these 2 school years.
  22. My dishwasher is broke, too. I wash as I go and let dry in the dishwasher. A kid empties when full. I am actually kinda enjoying it because now I am never behind on my dishes.
