  1. My son has a November birthday and we started OPGTR the September before his 5th birthday. We ended up shelving it by that Christmas because he was completely resisting the lessons and I was worried I was going to make him hate reading. Fast forward to the next August and we picked up the book again. This time things went much better. We worked on it all through K, a few times a week over the summer, and finished up last October, just before his 7th birthday. I would recommend sticking it out and finishing the book. Reading is still not my son's favorite thing and something I have to require from him, but he does it very well. The first "real" book he read after finishing OPGTR was Trumpet of the Swan, and he's currently reading Treasure Island. I apologize in advance for any typos as I'm sending this from my phone.
  2. I've had my Miche bag for over 2 years with no real any problems. (I went to a party for a friend thinking to myself that it sounded ridiculous - came home with bag and two covers.) Handles and interior are very durable. However, I do have one cover that has always had magnet issues and it will come off easily if I catch it on something. I love being able to change the look of my bag without switching out contents!
  3. I dipped my iPhone 3gs in my coffee on Monday, and the touchscreen didn't survive. So, on the advice of my most geeky male friend, who has owned almost every phone imaginable, I am going with the Samsung Galaxy S II. He told me it's the best phone he's ever owned. I don't think Verizon carries that one, but I do believe they have the new, highly anticipated, Samsung Nexus, which runs on the latest Android platform, Ice Cream Sandwich. Also, doesn't Verizon give you 30 days to try out the phone? I double checked on that with AT&T in case I hate my Android and am desperate to go back to Apple. :)
  4. You can find several clips on YouTube. I actually have her Perfect Housewife book, but she is too perfectionist to be real for me. Also I agree that she does come off as somewhat condescending. However, I will admit to folding my bath towels "Anthea Style". :D
  5. We've recently started Mr. Q's Life Science and are really liking it, enough that at this point I plan on buying it next year. We started the year with Apologia Botany. My first grader was so bored and the journaling was not going over, even with me doing the writing. I don't have any experience with the others listed.
  6. :iagree: Haha! And then eat them with something flavorful that covers any lingering fishy smell! That said, I still rather like them...though I am the only one in the house who does. :D
  7. I don't quite know what an Ooma hub is, but that's awesome that Costco refunded you and you got a new one for even less! IMO, I say go for the iphone. Hubby got me an older model this year and I love it so much that even though it recently broke (callers can't hear me) I have yet to stop using it! I hear great things about Samsung's new Galaxy 2, too.
  8. I would like the book fairy to bring me the following: 1. Complete Works of Oscar Wilde 2. A Game of Thrones: A Song of Fire and Ice - George R.R. Martin 3. Lionhart - Sharon Kay Penman 4. The Pilgrim's Regress - C.S. Lewis 5. The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun - J.R.R. Tolkien 6. All New Square Foot Gardening - Mel Bartholomew 7. The Gun Seller - Hugh Laurie 8. Payne's Gray - Magne Furuholmen 9. Watership Down - Richard Adams 10. The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss Great thread! I love seeing what books other people are listing. :001_smile:
  9. My 14 year old occasionally helps me out by doing OPTG with my 6 year old. She also does science experiments with him 2-3 times a week.
  10. I had both of my dds' ears pierced when they were infants. It was something I saw as getting out of the way, I couldn't imagine them not wanting it when they were older. Also, I thought it was feminine and cute. That said, my ideas have most definitely changed. I would now wait until it was requested by the child.
  11. It's my first post here (though I have been reading for years), and I don't have a signature yet. I thought I'd jump in anyway and say we are reading The Phantom Tollboth and Tales From the Perilous Realm.
