Lisa from Organize 365 has agreed to do a organization workshop the first night of the Cincy convention for homeschoolers who will be in the area at that time. It will be the same venue as her other workshops. I am driving my van over if someone needs a ride. It will be Thursday night and she is talking about setting up a Sunday Basket for those of us who already listen to her podcasts, tackling the incoming paper for those new to her ideas. She was a teacher and her organization style makes so much sense to me.

What are you using for grammar in 2015-2016?
hsmomma replied to IfIOnly's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Does that come with a lesson plan? I bought Easy Grammar Grades 3 and 4 used and I can't tell if I should know how many pages to do a day? Theresa -
I would love to hear your experiences with reading eggs and what you consider a good price. I am constantly seeing diffferent specials and it is a little confusing. Thanks for your help!

For $20 bucks I would probably buy it. It is not complete but you will probably get more than twenty dollars worth if you use it as a supplement. But then I am a curriculum junkie :drool5:

Honestly, I would expect that is a typo. Even for Classic that is cheap. I would ask some clarifying questions like what is the condition and what is the print year. If it is Classic does it have the Loom? And are the binders included? Does it have all the pages? HTH

I was thinking I was crazy or something. I am NOT a computer developer or any like that but I thought there are a WHOLE lot of bugs in this thing. It is so not what I signed up for. I love Rebecca @ WPD but I am so sad and disappointed. The upgrades that they promised are soooo slow coming. I just am at a loss over the whole mess.

I really dont know how to express how helpful this board is to me. We had to go through a lot to get our dx and our dr was helpful but didnt give me the 'common words' for these offical dx. I just put together that the math part is what everyone calls dyscalculia and was wondering about the written expression part. All the books, workshops forums refer to dyslexia, dysgraphia and I didnt want to be adding titles that were not true but they seemed to fit what I was dealing with! Thank you ladies.

Erica at Confessions http://www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/ has both US and World Geography. You can download one at a time for free. But it is pretty cheap to buy and we have enjoyed her studies.

What's your ideal homeschool convention?
hsmomma replied to shinyhappypeople's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Now your talking. These all sound wonderful. I dont mind Christian homeschool conferences. Just let me know upfront that is what I am going to and I can decide. Our local conference is Christian and I think they do a great job but they dont pretend to be otherwise. It is getting harder to find workshops where the presenter isnt selling something they are presenting on. It gets old. But the larger conventions are getting so expensive to have vendor space, vendors present to drive customers to their booth to insure they cover their costs. One my favorite HS ppl doesnt do the big conventions anymore because she wasnt covering her costs but I think she is still popular within the HS community. -
One more thought. We have done both R&S and Shurley. I love the simplicity of R&S, Shurley was to much for me after a while but... my friend with 3 older kids does SHurley for 9th grade to review and complete the grammar season. The kids say the jingles help them remember for their ACT/SAT testing. They didnt love it at the time but all three have come back and said it was helpful. HTH

hsmomma replied to Plink's topic in General Education Discussion Board
This post really spoke to me. Thanks Scuff. I have cleaning cycles but the problem for me really is I keep bringing those deals in the house. I need to let somebody else find those deals. I am decluttering my basement and it is just sad. I looks like a have and elementary school :tongue_smilie: .Maybe I will get brave enough to post a picture. -

hsmomma replied to jackson'smama's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board

I have the sterlite ones and they are very sturdy. I have the other kind for myself but I got it from JoAnns, not so sturdy:( For an older child I think it would be fine but not young ones who may be rough. I like the rack and boxes for the younger children.r It really helps for them to be able to see the work that needs to be done and see the accomplishment of empty boxes.

How to teach my lefty to write the right way?
hsmomma replied to kristamaranatha's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Make sure her form is correct. I used a Getty-Dubay book that helped me with that but I am sure you can look it up on the net. And then just stay next to her when she is writing and dont let her practice writing in correctly. I really like HWT for preventing letter reversal but I am just starting this with my 6 and 4 yo so not long term experience yet:001_smile: -
HELP!!! Confessions of a Homeschooler "Letter of the week"?
hsmomma replied to warriormom's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I dont print it all but I have printed a lot as I go. We have this http://www.workboxsystem.com/printerinformation.html and printing is so very cheap:party:. For me it was so worth it. I use it now for our boxes that they can do when I am working with the older boys. I keep mine in binder right now but I am thinkig of changing over to http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.net/2012/03/behind-the-scenes-storing-printables/- 19 replies
