  1. Staples called me & my dd's school laptop is fried due to idk what...Ugh. Thank goodness we have been backing up on Google drive. What are the best, easy programs to install to protect from viruses? I don't mind paying if it is superb. I need something that is maintenance free, meaning it runs & updates itself & protects in real-time. Thanks.!
  2. My kids are 16, 12, and 10 and we already have: Pres. Vs. Aliens, Stack the States, Stack the Countries, Duolingo, xtramath, Brainpop/Jr., PBS Kids, Slice Fractions...what else is there? Tia. :)
  3. I tried doing that a few year ago but I didn't have enough strong will but I recently started Medifast to get this weight off. I just wanted to post & tell u CONGRATS!! Losing weight is sooooooo stinkin' hard. Keep it up. :)
  4. My 10th grade daughter will begin tutoring with him 3xs week in Geometry & Alg 1 with Tablet Class. I am very glad to read these posts.
  5. I actually forgot that I have this series. Did you use this as supplement with something else?
  6. My 10th grade dd is struggling horribly and is stuck on Teaching Textbooks Geometry Lesson 15 because they threw in some Algebra. She horribly struggled through Algebra. She can add, subtract, multiply, divide, do fractions, decimals very well. Usually, kids that have problems with Alg & Geom are because they don't have those previous skills but she can do them. How do I backup and figure out where the disconnect is? She hates Kahn Academy and desperately asked me yesterday to please find her a real person tutor so I'm in the process of doing that. I called the local community college for a college student tutor, I will be placing an ad at the local library, and I'm researching Sylvan Learning which is about 45min away. She has always hated math and shed many tears about it in brick-n-mortar school and that was 5 years ago, and she's still shedding tears. Yes, she wants to go to college & those colleges only need the basic maths: Alg 1, Alg 2, Geom. How do I backup to find the disconnect? If you read this far, I thank you very much.
  7. Which class did your reluctant writer take & how old is your child? Thanks. :)
  8. Who has gone back to their shelves and was SUCCESSFUL with a previously ditched writing curriculum? 6th grade DS doing Time4writing, not a good fit after all. Successful with previous T4W sentences & grammar but NOT Elementary Paragraphs with a different instructor. I own IEW SW-A. WOW, too long & watching where to stop the dvd, and the learning curve for me, and the editing makes me pretty cranky. I work full-time. I own EIW 4 & EIW 5. We never really used it. I do not want to spend more $ so close to end of our school year on May 6th.
  9. My 10th grader HATES math & is currently struggling through Geometry. No LDs. She's great at writing & competitive choir singing. Maybe I should ask on an unschooling forum, but has anyone here put together a non-traditional way of covering Alg & Geometry? At this point, we just want to get 'er done! She plans on either attending the local CC or a small, private, liberal arts college in which she needs the regular Alg 1, Alg 2, & Geometry. Any advice? Thanks.
  10. I wish I could "like" this 100x's! My 10th grader is struggling with Geometry & still have 104 lessons to go which puts us at finishing on 6-12-16! That is a huge problem because we farm & she cannot do steady school work through the summer. Plus, she has camps & other things to do and I need a break too. She struggled badly through Algebra 1 & did not finish the course so I'm giving her a very low "C" on her transcript & we moved on to Geometry. This girl HATES math so much! No LD's, no Dyscalcula, no ADHD, problems. Perkybunch, I'm going to look into this. How do I create a nontraditional Geometry class for my math hating student. In fact...I may start a thread. Thanks.
  11. Was I just seeing things or wasn't there a link to like the first few chapters of Writing With Skill for free? I need some type of writing to finish out the year. Thanks.
  12. I played violin for 3 years in middle school & I have been thinking about taking it up again but I do not want a teacher. Thanks for posting this link, maize.
  13. Like Math Mammoth but for grammar. My 6th grade son's capitalization, commas, and run-on sentences are atrocious. He needs more practice. Thanks.
  14. I'm looking for a grammar curriculum that can be bought & downloaded as a pdf. Anyone know? I did a search on the forums but found nothing. Thanks.
  15. Ok...I may try this. Thanks, Hunter.
  16. Could someone share with me their favorite daily lesson planner template made with Excel format? I want to input daily work, and print 1 sheet to place in a clipboard for kids to check off their work. I am currently doing this with a notebook, which has been great, but I need to streamline & make it faster and I type much faster. Tia. :)
  17. Thanks, Lori D. Your post made my load lighter. :)
  18. Wow! I just got home & I'm giddy that I have so many replies to read. THANKS! :)
  19. I really hate to teach writing. My forte is religion & history. I own EIW 5 and IEW SWI-A (gosh, the dvd is so long) and I can't keep make myself to get it going with my 6th grader...I can't get past the 1st page. UGH!!!! He just finished an asynchronous online "Elementary Sentences" with Time4Writing and this is really the only writing that gets done here. He's suppose to start "Elementary Paragraph Writing" next and he does enjoy the asynchronous class and does well with it so why do I feel that I am short-changing him. Any advice? TIA. :)
  20. Ty for the replies. Both have mentioned placement tests. Ask if she can take a placement test for that particular class in lieu of ACT? Is that the magic phrase? Ty for educating me.
  21. Many times, it has been suggested for my 16yr old to take a class at the community college, such as speech. We do have a cc in our small town but they require an ACT score and dual enrollment but she's not ready to take the ACT. I cannot graduate her early because they won't allow her to enroll full time until her grade level graduates from the local high school. Are some cc more homeschool friendly? There's another cc about 45 min. away. I would love for her to take speech now but she's not ready for the ACT although she is technically ready for cc classes. The cc classes are not exactly too difficult, I'm probably harder on her. Have you found a work around this at your cc? Is there a specific question I need to ask? Please, share with me. Thanks.
