  1. My family is in town (private school teachers) & I want to show them how well my kids scored. However, I have been reading on different websites that the CAT is outdated & doesn't carry much weight. Ugh. :( What says the hive?
  2. My rising 6th grader doesn't really like Prodigy but rising 7th grader loves it. I am looking for more than just math facts since they have those down cold. Thanks.
  3. Thanks Aracadia! Good luck to your youngest tomorrow. :)
  4. Is 969-999 the correct school code for homeschoolers?
  5. LOVE LOVE Tableclass and love John Zimmerman! He has taken my hysterical- math loathing-the world is caving in-I'm stupid and will never learn math-dd into doing Algebra with NO tears! She actually gets up in the morning to do it first thing without being nagged or threatened!!!! I wish I could get back all the $$ I spent on different math programs & just invested into Tableclass along with his tutoring. I will have my younger two also do it.
  6. @Maize: I did not realize I could do this with fractions. Honestly, I couldn't understand how to navigate the site and gave up. But, I can try again. Ty.
  7. My kids are 11 & 12. They love playing those games but we need one that concentrates on fractions or has fractions along with math facts. Do you have a favorite? Thanks. :)
  8. Yes, I was afraid of the bad spam that could leak through with gmail. I don't want my 12 yr old son getting a Viagra email..lol. I like the idea of using my gmail + the kid's name. Thanks everyone!
  9. My 11 & 12yr old will need their own email for an online writing class with IEW. They each have a gmail account which they don't know about & forwards me anything in their inbox but I would feel better if they had a kid email. What's your fave? I would prefer free but any is fine. Thanks!
  10. Ok, so the Common Core Math is the same as everyone else's math? I thought it was suppose to be bad.
  11. I have asked the online chat rep many questions but I did not get a clear answer & live chat is not on today. So, I'm hoping someone here can help me. The options for curriculum are: Common Core, MAFS (Florida standards), TEKS, (Texas standards), Ontario (Canada standards). 1. I know I don't need Ontario, and I don't want Common Core so what do I choose? We live in Oklahoma. 2. The current setting is at "no curriculum override" then what curriculum are they doing? Hoping Sweetpea3829 will reply. :) TIA.
  12. No, I am not going to re-type the document in Word. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I will check out Turboscan and thanks to everyone for your replies. :)
  13. Oops. On a PC. I will google OCR and check my Brother printer's functions since it may already have it. Thanks.
  14. I would like to scan a form with book report questions and have my son type in all the information instead of writing it out by hand. What software do I need & how is that done? Tia.
  15. Thank you everyone for the great suggestions & replies and I researched them all carefully. I decided to sign them both with WriteGuide for half the price of BW and they provide one-on-one instruction for 1 month . Actually, I could have gotten away even cheaper had I used 1 instructor for both students but I did not. The time frame is actually perfect since our goal is to end school 4-30-16. We will see how it goes, wish us luck. Thanks, hive!
  16. My 10th grader used Write Guide last year and it was very positive to have a one-on-one writing coach. They are very good about asking you as a parent what your goals are. I bet if you asked them to only use secular subjects they would accommodate that with no problem. I just sent them an email about signing up my 6th & 5th grader.
  17. Woah! As in no kind of structured essay or book report? Can you define "written narration" for me? If that is so then you have given me a glimpse of hope that I'm doing ok and not ruining my kids. Lol. They have only done copywork, journaling, cursive, and (on their own) free writing. Thanks. :) OP: My kids are pretty good spellers because of copywork and lots of reading. We have never been successful with spelling book..too boring & tedious.
  18. Thank you for sharing this. My dd is struggling with math so we signed up for weekly tutoring with Mr. Zimmerman. How many times a week does your son tutor with him? Thanks.
  19. I didn't realize you could catch a virus from a public Wifi...I try to avoid them because of hacking. Interesting.
  20. I was considering Bravewriter's online class "Write for Fun 1." But, it is so expensive $199 1st kid + $99 2nd kid for a 3 week class. They (ages 12 & 10) are currently doing journaling but I want to add something fun to finish out the school year on May 6th. Should I go ahead & bite the bullet & pay for it? We have not done BW but I don't have time to do the BW Basic or The Writer's Jungle. Any suggestions on what to add? Thanks.
  21. I downloaded Avast & Malware on all my laptops & one pc. Thank you so much, everyone! :)
  22. Thank you so much for your detailed reply. It is very encouraging & I may sign up my 10 & 11 year old for the Kidswriter Basic. Was that difficult to learn for you how to coach him? :)
  23. Cross post from high school forum: Staples called me & my dd's school laptop is fried due to idk what...Ugh. Thank goodness we have been backing up on Google drive. What do you use to protect your laptop from viruses & malware? Thanks.
