  1. :grouphug: You are not the worst homeschool mom in the world! :grouphug: One of the reasons so many parents homeschool is so that their kids can work at their own pace and really get what they are doing. My suggestion would be to maybe make math a little more fun by incorperating games like math bingo. Also helping her memorize math facts will also make math alot easier. I love Saxon math mainly because it is perfect for kids who struggle with math. Instead of moving on to the next subject quickly, the program slowly incorporates new lessons.
  2. Fashion magazines are not allowed in this house. We are also getting ready to turn off the tube for good too. I come from a family of curvy women and I have to say that women who are waif like honestly look like they are in pain. I am almost afraid to touch them out of fear of breaking them. I absoultely hate seeing any outline of bones (collar bones, back bones, ect.). What is a woman without curves. Protruding hip bones are not curves.
  3. You can do this with your body too. I used to rub my eyes raw to get all the make up off with products that were supposed to be gentle and effective. I never found anything more effective than plain old oil. I just get my face wet and then massage about 1/2 tsp of oil on it. I can get right into my lash line too. No eye irritation at all. Every last bit of makeup comes off. I just follow it with a gentle cleanser and that is it.
  4. Shea butter is actually a very good moisturizer. Baking soda is wonderful for body scrubs and deoderant and if you have oily hair it is also good as a scalp scrub. For the home it is a wonderful scouring powder and deoderizer. Castile soap is a wonderfuly gentle cleanser for hair and body and I also use it as a general cleaner around the house as well. Vinager is a wonderful rinse for the hair because it removes residues and actually conditions the hair (apple cider vinager that is, and don't use it straight, dilute about 1 oz. in a pitcher of water). It is also a good glass cleaner and disinfectant.
  5. Lots of water, almonds, and oatmeal. I have heard that these can increase milk supply. She can also take some blessed thistle which also increases milk supply. I would keep a pitcher of water and a jar of almonds by the chair I would nurse in. Whenever I was nursing I would just grab just a few almonds and snack on them and then I would just sip on water while I was nursing. I would not supplement with formula unless the baby's health was at risk. Formula curdles in the tummy and takes longer to digest which is quite the opposite of breast milk. So she can profoundly decrease her milk supply if she supplements on a regular basis. Stress can also profoundly affect breastfeeding which is why when you nurse, your body releases a hormone that causes you to relax and makes you ver sleepy. She should take the breastfeeding time that she has as opportunites to relax. Sit in a comfy chair and put her feet up.
  6. I fI am pressed on time I just make some rice and steam some veggies. I always have lots of frozen veggies in the freezer. I stock up on them when Krogers has their 10 for $10 special. I will also cut up some raw veggies like a tomato or a cucumber. That's it. it takes about 20 to 30 mins total wait time but only about 5 or 10 mins of prep time.
  7. It bothers me alot. I am sooo with you on this one that I long for the days when we paid attention to ettiquette and proper manners. I feel like if we are going to watch a show that does not joke and poke fun at rude behaviour then it has to be an old show from the 50's like Leave it to Beaver. It one of the reasons I mainly just watch cooking shows and gardening shows. I do understand that there are a large number of disfunctional families, coming from one myself, but bein g a disfunctional family should not be the norm. I think we have lost our strive to be better.
  8. I don't see how not working is going to save you money. You don't pay for daycare because your DH watches the kids while you work. The only expense you are gaining through working is putting gas in the car for the comute to and from work. But if your wanting to stop working so that your income will go down so that your college kids can get financial aid. I dunno. Is paying for their tuition causing you to struggle?
  9. Our heater is broken and it is getting cold. So cold that I wake up at dawn because I can't sleep because i'm so cold. I have to put my robe on and crawl back into bed in order to get warm enough to go back to sleep. I makes me wonder about the times before people had central heat. How did they deal with this. And we're not even in a state where it gets as cold as places like Dakota or Canada.
  10. If your still in TN then I don't understand what the problem is. The homeschooling laws here say that all you have to do to home school upto the 8th grade is have a highschool diploma. They must not have a whole lot of homeschoolers in your county which would explain them not knowing the law.
  11. Sounds like she's developing along the same lines as my dd and she got her 1st cycle at the age of 11. But you do have to remember that it really is diffirent for everyone.
  12. Both our sons are circumsized. They did it in the hospital soon after the baby is born. We did it because of religion (although I have come to find out that it is not mandatory but highly recomended). It heals very quickly.
  13. I have relatives in Holland that will take any opportunity they can to down America and I have talked to someone from the UK who very openly said that he thinks American kids are stupid. One example that really annoyed me was when Presdient Obama bent over to pick up something from the ground but he was kind of blocked so it looked like he was bowing down to the kind of Saudi Arabia. My cousins in Holland refused to believe that he was picking something up. What bothered me the most was that if he had left the trash on the ground then they probably would have said that the American president littered. :glare:
  14. I roasted a red pepper and pureed a package of frozen spinach. Then in a pan, I put in about 2 tbsp of olive oil and added some garlic. I chopped up the red pepper and added that to the pan too. I sauted that a little bit and then I added the spinach. I added to that, a cup of heavy cream. I added salt and pepper to my prefference and I let it simmer on low for about 30 mins. I poured over fettuccinni pasta and sprinkled some parmasean over it. I was very happy to see that my children couldn't get enough of it. You can also make pasta salads or pasta premavera(sp). What I made above was a variation on an alfredo sauce it it would be just as good with asparagus or artichokes. You can even add tender pieces of chicken.
  15. Yeah this was also my problem with my dd in the ps system.
  16. The bloating is due to two things: water retention and swelling of the uterus from its lining. You start to retain water like one week before your cycle starts because your body needs that water to help clean out the uterus. This is why if you skip out on drinking water you can get cramps and if you use one of those pills that's supposed to relive water retension you can get even worse cramps. I don't understand where the nausea is coming from though.
  17. So sorry to hear. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
  18. Turkish Delights are made all kinds of different ways.
  19. In the middle east it is mainly used in dessert. I also use it to flavor tea. I personaly preffer orange blossom water though.
  20. In our culture, they stuff a whole goat with a rice mixture and put it on a spit and cook it slowly. I have never had tasted it that way but I have heard that it is soooo good.
