  1. The only way to change formula on WIC is to get a prescription from the doctor. My twins were preemies and weren't nursing well and required Neosure for about 6 months. My oldest DD needed Isomil as well. Her formula was also changed with a prescription from her doctor.
  2. Oh....I felt exactly the same way about the book. My DH thinks its funny because I tell all of girlfriends not to read it....ever. The book just really hurt my feelings. I haven't decided whether or not I want to see the movie, but Eric Bana does make it tempting.
  3. Absolutely! If they want to make that decision for their OWN children, that is one thing. However, I would never accept someone making that decision for me. Children differ so much and some are more mature than others. No one can make that decision for you. The only exception would be a life or death emergency.
  4. This is the short version of what I was trying to say. I ramble a lot. Sorry.
  5. I don't think it matters what age difference there is between kiddos. I think their relationship will be great, but it will be different depending on how far they are apart. My boys are 7, 6, 6, and 5 and although sometimes they fight like the dickens, they play well and love each other very much. Even though they fuss with each other, they always stick up for each other if other kids are being mean to one of their brothers. (I've heard, "Hey, you don't say/do that to MY brother.") I find it very sweet. My oldest DD is 11 and she has a very sweet relationship with our youngest DD that is 2. My oldest DD likes to show her off and show all the cool stuff she can do (like sing the Itsy, Bitsy Spider w/ hand motions included). It's very sweet. My boys do drive my oldest DD crazy though. They like to give her a hard time sometimes. I remember getting the same thing from my sisters when I was little (I was the oldest as well.). My health will not allow me to have more children, but I'm really glad we had our children when we did. If we had waited, I wouldn't have been able to have them at all. HTH,
  6. I have this. We use it for review and the kids love all the games. I will worn you that it did take me about 8 hours to cut out, laminate, and assemble everything. It really is fun, but I would recommend buying it used if you can to save yourself the time.
  7. :iagree: I was just going to say the same thing. Kelly's Kindergarten has some awesome resources.
  8. I was diagnosed a couple of months ago with severely low vitamin d levels. I started with 50,000 IU for 10 weeks, and I'm just started taking 1,000 IU everyday. My doctor told me to take magnesium and calcium when I started daily therapy, but for the life of me I can't remember how much. I called my doctor, but she is on vacation until the end of next week. So what did your doctor recommend?
  9. My classes start in October. I was supposed to start in August, but the stinky school lost my gibill application so I'm now I'm taking harder 8 week classes instead of easier 16 week classes. Anyway, I do enjoy school and really look forward to my classes.
  10. PP introduces the rule and has lists of words for them to read. My kids really like that a lot of the time the words are silly and there is a lot of rhyming as well. There are also a few games in the back of the book, too. OPGTR was just really DRY. You could check your library if you wanted to give a try before you spend the money to buy it.
  11. Absolutely. You actually describe exactly what we do. The only thing I do different is I dictate the phoneme that they are learning and have them copy it in their composition books (and a few example words). I then choose a sentence or two for them to copy as well, and that's it. We just switched from OPGTR to PP and wished we had done it awhile ago. HTH
  12. Ok....this has been a long couple of months. I have Systemic Lupus, Fibromyalgia, and Thyroid issues. Lately I've started having other issues that my Rheumatologist thinks could be MS. With all the issues, I'm having I'm seriously doubting homeschooling my kids. Not to mention that they have been utter monsters lately. I have one who has some learning disabilities and no matter what he will not return to school. (I put him in for about 6 months last year to try to get him tested. It was a horrible mess and we finally ended up paying for testing for him and pulling him out.) My other kids are very bright and have no learning issues. I guess my biggest problem is I deal with a lot of pain which makes me very grouchy sometimes. Obviously this is not my kids fault, but a lot of the time I am very impatient and grumpy. This then cycles down to the kids who become impatient and grumpy and well you know the rest. The other big issue is that my boys fight constantly about EVERYTHING. I feel like a referee most of the time. Plus, they know when Mommy is too physically weak to enforce the rules and take advantage of that. I'm very conflicted on what to do. The schools here aren't the best, but I've seen worse. My kids are good kids and I love being home with them, but I'm not sure how to handle all of this. What do you do? How do you cope? All advice is welcome.
  13. Just curious if anyway is planning on use Lesson Pathways. I really like the look of it and was just wondering how others were planning on implementing this? TIA
  14. :iagree: That is something else to consider. There is A LOT of practice in the books. I don't assign all of it because my DD has done R&S English from the start so she has a really good grasp of grammar.
  15. R&S grade 5 and 6 are similar. They cover a lot of the same things, BUT R&S 6 moves faster than R&S 5. If your DC grasps grammar concepts easily, then I think it would be okay to skip. If they don't, then I wouldn't recommend skipping. There is a little more writing in R&S 6 (32 lessons). (Grade 5 has 28 lessons.) HTH
  16. We are just starting to use it. Here are some people who have posted lessons plans on how they do it. Redshift Homeschool Donna Young Squidoo That can at least give you an idea on how others do it. I know for me it was overwhelming at first, but after reading some of these posts it made it a lot easier to understand. HTH
  17. Ouch....that is only $28,000/year. That seems pretty ridiculous when it is a management position. I can't be of much help as my DH has never worked for UPS, but that sounds really low to me.
  18. Uh...this is just so sad. A woman left her 2 yo and 6 yo in the car while she went to grocery shopping. I just don't understand why in the world someone would do that. That is just so lazy that you would rather leave your kids in the car....then to take them shopping with you. Anyway, here is the article.
  19. There is no sexual issues with it that I can remember. There is some cursing though. I didn't let my DD 11 see it, but there are very few movies she has seen that are PG13. Here is a parent's guide you might find helpful.
  20. I'm pretty sure this is correct. Usually the lunch form is to see if you qualify for reduced lunch and maybe for funding.
  21. How precious! I'm having one of those months as well. Kids aren't listening, constantly fighting and arguing, all around just driving their mother crazy. DH doesn't understand why I'm so frustrated at the end of the day. I try not to let it spill over on DH, but lately I know I've been really edgy. I want him to come home to a peaceful house and this has been such a struggle lately. :grouphug: Hugs for everyone dealing with this now. I know it's really hard.
  22. Oh....I know. I can't believe I actually posted about Britney's hair. I think I just lost a few IQ points for this one.
  23. I've seen others post games on there. I find most games are educational in one way or another.
  24. Ok...I know this is so stupid, but is driving me nuts. Everytime I see a picture of her, her hair just looks like it hasn't been washed in a month. What in the world is wrong with her hair. (Yes, I know I'm ridiculous for reading celebrity gossip....it's been a habit since I was a teenager.) http://omg.yahoo.com/photos/britney-gets-her-shop-on/3143#id=2
