  1. I appreciate the input. I'm not using them as spines. I'm using HO and some of the recommendations from Biblioplan. It was a recommended resource, but I had a feeling I could do without it. Thanks again. Andrea
  2. For those that have used the Greenleaf Guides, what are your thoughts? I know they aren't expensive, but are they worth the price? Did you find them helpful or could the books stand alone without them? Thanks so much, Andrea
  3. We are using HO ancients, level 2 next year. I've read through the book and the directions are actually written to the student. It should be a pretty easy to implement. (In theory at least.) :)
  4. You must have read my mind. I was looking for something just like this. Thanks so much!
  5. I have a fourth grader who started copywork and dictation this year as well. We used the Harp and Laurel Wreath by Laura Berquist. We started at the beginning and she has enjoyed this as far as I can tell and has learned a lot. Hope this helps. Andrea
  6. I'm doing HO Level 2 Ancients this coming year with my soon to be 5th grader. I'm planning on doing Mystery of History with HO. No schedule yet, sorry. :(
  7. Bluecalmsea, I don't think it would be too hard to coordinate SOTW with American History. My older daughter was totally ready for SOTW in first grade. We used the summer to do American History and the school year for Ancients. I have two sons that will be kindergarten age and another son that will be in first grade. I just don't think they are quite ready yet. So next year we are doing geography (I have Galloping the Globe and I'm thinking of using it.), A History for Little Pilgrims, and some basc American History. SOTW I'm saving for 2nd grade. Let me know what you decide to use. I love everyone's ideas. Andrea
  8. I have one that's finishing kindergarten and two more starting kindergarten here shortly. We have mainly used Five in a Row and haven't done a lot of history other than some country studies. I don't want to begin SOTW 1 next year because I don't think my boys are quite ready for that yet. I recently picked up History For Little Pilgrims from Christian Liberty Press and I'm planning on starting that pretty soon. It's a very cute book (a teacher guide is a available as well) and seems like a gentle approach for little ones. It's also very expensive. I bought the teacher's guide and the book for $14.00. Just my two cents. I liked to know what you decide if you wouldn't posting later on. (In case I change my mind and need ideas.) :0) Andrea
  9. I just wanted to say hello. I have perused these boards for an eternity and never introduced myself. I have six little ones 10, 6, 5, 5, 4, and 1. I have gotten many helpful ideas from many of the members of this forum (especially Jessica at Trivium Academy). I just wanted to say thank you because this board has answered literally every question I've had since beginning homeschooling this year. It's our first year. I recently left the Army. Hubbie has new job. I have three learning to read. Lots of transitions for sure. It has been slightly overwhelming at times, but we are thoroughly enjoying it. Happy Homeschooling! Andrea
  10. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Apologia science. I have only used the Elementary Botany and Zoology 1, but I do own the General Science (I have to peruse everything we use thoroughly.). We are planning to use it in 6th or 7th grade. I have not used Abeka or Bob Jones so I'm not any help there. Happy choosing! Andrea
