  1. I try to keep the tv off during the day. Once dinner is done and baths are had they usually get 1 hour of tv from 7 - 8pm before bed. Due to the heat here right now it's been hard not to let the watch tv. After about 15 min outside we are all to hot unless we are at the pool.
  2. For me it doesn't matter what race he was speaking to the boy was out of line and needed to be dealt with at that moment. My children aren't allowed to talk to any adult disrespectfully.
  3. He does at times but the when the 9 yr old gets invited places with his friends the 7 yr old can't tag along. I want him to have his own friends his age and not be the pesky lil brother.:)
  4. It sounds good to me. I might try that with my three this year. We are in SC so I understand the heat you have. My outside time will just be shorter, since my boys are older we need to start earlier.
  5. I also have a difficult one and completely understand but you also stated a new baby is in the picture so this could surely be part of it. She has to get used to sharing you with two other people now and fighting with her brother get attention that she may want. Take a little time for just you and her to do something. It just may be that she wants all of your attention and will get it even if it means in a bad way.
  6. We aren't doing much writing yet but I will buy the 2nd grade paper for my ds. His handwriting isn't the best so he needs the lines and space. I am hoping that since we are starting cursive this year and I've read that some do cursive better that it will be the case for us.
  7. My 7yr old DS is a great kid although he can have a not so great attitude sometimes. He doesn't have many playmates and I know we aren't around other kids everyday but he has been with the most of the same kids in church since he was 6 mths and baseball for the last year or more. Am I going overboard when being worried that he will not have good relationships? Does anyone else worry about this for your children?
  8. I probably would have addressed the child and let him know that pushing my child isn't nice and I would have also let the parents know what happened. A child should never be allowed to get away with something and regardless of how the parents would have handled it at least you would have brought it to their attention that their son put his hands on yours. It's our job to protect our children and we may not always be there so IMO letting your son see that you said something would have been good.
  9. We started counting our days on July 9th. This time has been mostly reading and math focused. We will add our other subjects in on the 1st.:)
  10. WOW!!!!! That is early. Do they get out of school earlier. I am from Ca. and never knew schools in Az start this early.
  11. I agree. I actually read somewhere that many children will learn cursive easier than printing. A child who has sloppy printing may have beautiful cursive and vice versa. I will also be starting my rising 2nd grader on cursive this year. I used MP for my oldest last year and loved it but don't think it will be a good fit for my 2nd grader. I am thinking of using RS this year because it has both manuscript and cursive.
  12. I like that also. Did you use templates for your pages or what did you use? What timeline figures did you use?
  13. That sounds good. I will check that out.
  14. Knowledgequest has its timelines on sale and it ends tomorrow. What I want to know is do you prefer a wall or book timeline. I am trying to make a decision. The book timeline covers up to modern where as the wall ones are seperate. I think it would be a better deal to get the book but I want to hear from all of you.:)
  15. Good links!!!!!! Thanks for posting:D
  16. We only do math and reading in the summer so I can't really say we hs year round.
  17. I looked at the schedules on Paula's archives and like them but I do also want to incorporate some other read alouds with the schedule besides the story Bible and they don't do that. Does anyone know of any that do this or will I have to pull from many schedules?
  18. This year I will have 2nd and 4th graders. We did CC last year so didn't dive into SOTW1. My question is do I need to start at 1 or can I go ahead to 2 or have any of you done 1 & 2 together? I don't want them to miss out or be behind on anything when the 4th grader hits the logic stage.
  19. I have searched but not able to find what I am looking for. I am wanting to use SOTW1 this year but want to use it with a Christian perspective. I can't afford Biblioplan so I am wanting to know if someone has a plan that you used to add the Bible into SOTW1. Someone mentioned Paula's archives on another thread but I don't know what that is. Please help!!!!
  20. I have taken some things out. We aren't doing CC this year so history, science, geography and art are now done at home but it will be done together. We will focus more on the 3R's and pull the others in. History and Science 2x's a week and Art once a week. I am looking forward to having more time of us together. We will also do a homeschool swim and gym class at our local YMCA on Wed.
  21. This was great :lurk5:!!!!!!!!! It made me see that I am going to work on goals I have for my children. Having them on paper will definitely help me see whether we are or aren't reaching them.
  22. I just bought Before the Code for my DD3 and she loves it.
