  1. This is ONE of TWO of many reasons we pulled our children out of PS! ONE:A classmate of my son kept calling him and his team cheaters and losers (he was on a team with his friends he's been playing baseball & football with for 5 years), and started cussing at my son. Well, he shoves my son & my son punches him in the nose & breaks his nose. **We have always taught our kids NOT to start a fight, but to ALWAYS stand up for ourselves** The principal called, and he was visibly upset when I reached the school. DO YOU KNOW, she had the audacity to get down at my son's level at the desk he was sitting in and started banging her hand on the desk telling him that he was WRONG & that that sort of behavior would NOT be tolerated! WELL, I am on PTO Board (at this time) and was SHOCKED!! The veins were popping out of her neck and the VP was standing right there, and I think we both had this look of "what the hay is going on" on our face. She got right in my face and said "We don't have a bullying problem at this school". Even though we had 2 witnesses as to what happened (one being a fellow teacher), he still got suspended. TWO: (*Quick Background*...My son is ADHD. His K5 year started horribly, his teacher knew we were going through medications to help him with his overactivity at school. Long story short, teacher kept a journal on how BAD Noah was, we were constatly in the Principal-different Princ at time-, teacher has to have emergency surgery, we have the BEST long term sub from late Sept-beginning of May! His behavior improved overnight & she knew what made him "tick". He had her in 1st grade also, did superbly! Come 2nd grade, terrible teacher again. He would shut down in this class b/c it was not interactive. He tests VERY well, but gets bored in the classroom and his grades started to suffer. He tested into Gifted Program but the Teacher has to give a recommendation, which she obviously did not recommend him for. Well, we had a meeting with the VP (who is the current Principal from number one), and says that "even though he can test well, we just have to accept that maybe he just an AVERAGE student and can only perform average work". Well, we made it through second grade, and Third Grade was good. I liked his teacher, but with 27 kids in a class, it was a little much. And then NUMBER ONE (from up top) happened.....) We had enough, so asked God to help up make a decision if we needed to move to another district or make another decision. I was partially homeschooled, so it just "clicked" one day and we haven't looked back!!
  2. We got some awesome ones last year at Target, wait until their school lines come out. He picked some boy-ish plaid ones and they were awesome!!
  3. What books are you reading?? I have a few here, but haven't read them. I would like to do a FFS for someone that would like them.
  4. Hi! My DD is going into first grade, and we're already to 1B. We will supplement (where needed) with Mammoth Math of BJU Math 2. Good luck!!
  5. We will be using SWO this year, and I like the way it's set up. I don't see a need for a TE, although mine are only in 1st & 4th. I think do whatever you are comfortable with. Some ppl prefer the TE, and some don't. Good luck!!
  6. I am going to do weekly Spelling tests for sure and I'll let them do the "quizzes" in the book and do tests as I feel comfortable. We may do open-book tests.
  7. My son LOVES TT! He'll be in 4th this year (coming out of PS) and knows half of TT5 already, so I definitely recommend the placement tests. We'll supplement with Mammoth Math.
  8. We are about 30 mins from Greenville! There's a TON of homeschoolers in the area! Greenville is a great place to live! I love downtown!
  9. IF it will fit, USPS has a Bubble Mailer, i think it's like 10x12 or something (you can order a set of 15 for free on usps.com) and it's FLAT RATE of $4.95 (unless it's went up). I would guess at least 5-6 Singapore books would fit in it.
  10. EXACTLY!!! Unless it's Overnight or something, I don't see what it much matters!! That's why the PO is going under!!
  11. I don't blame you!! My daughter is 6, will be 7 in October.
  12. We're in the Upstate (Spartanburg/Gaffney)!!! We love Folly Beach!!
  13. Hi mama! I am a seamstress! I sew custom children's clothing, and I used to sew for a local children's boutique. I used to be in a knitting group (which was super fun), but everyone had babies(except for me) and it's on "hold" for now. Sewing is the most worthwhile for me b/c I can turn out pieces a lot faster than I could ever knit or crochet. I don't consider knitting or crocheting "sewing", I consider it needlework.
  14. Hi! My DD has been dancing for 3 years(She's 6 years old). We pay $25 yearly registration. Her first class is $145/semester, second class is half off- so $72.50. So, it's $242.50 for the first semester and $217.50 the second semester. Her 2 costumes were $40 each and we get to keep them. She took her first year with a Student Teacher (and LOVED her), 2nd year she took with a main instructor, this year she had 2 classes, one with THE program director (awesome) and one with another main teacher.
  15. Well, since this is our first year HS'ing, I think I may need more than the average. I say that, but I think it's my OCD that makes me THINK we need more. For some reason, I have convinced myself that I need: Binders and folders for everything, paper to fill each of those, new crayons, markers, colored pencils, No2 pencils, an electric pencil sharpener (which is logical, right?), and laminator (not so logical?). Alas, I am compelled to grade our spelling & math tests (and the random unit test) in GREEN ink, which is harder to find, aparently. I have started purchasing a few pieces each week. I had a local carpenter I found on Craigslist build me a solid bookshelf & with the FaNcY feet for $40, unfinished. It fits perfect in the space I had available. Anywho, I acknowledge I'm OCD, and that's the hardest part, right?
