  2. Funny justamouse.... we keep ours at 67 during the day and 61 at night, just one degree difference! :001_smile: We don't really get cold much at those temps. At night, because we're covered up, during the day...well, if we feel chilly, we can easily put on socks and jacket, which isn't hard and is quite comfy. Any warmer, and we get TOO warm. We save money not having it higher, but we have it there because that's where we're all most comfortable. ETA:Oops, I answered before reading completely through the choices :blushing:. I answered 65-67, but I should've answered we have separate day and night temps.
  3. It says unavailable. Too bad, it would be nice to put a picture with the name! I am praying for her now, since I am just seeing this, and will continue to pray for her and her brother, mother, the school counselor, and others involved! Thank you for the updates, please keep them coming!
  4. I'm sure it was my helfulness that helped your helpless situation.... so, you're welcome! ;) :D (Well, I should give some "help" credit to 3peaseinapod! :001_smile:) Enjoy your new set, I hope it last for a long time!
  5. For review for your older daughter, you may want to try this book with CD? http://www.ecampus.com/ultimate-spanish-review-practice-cdrom/bk/9780071744188 On the front it specifically says: "Mastering Spanish Grammar for confident communication." I got it for my older son, but he ended up not needing it. So now we have it here in case DD wants to use it. Or maybe me, if I can get myself through to that level (I have to learn something to be able to review it! :D) DD is using Visual Link Spanish and really likes it, maybe your younger one would too. I'm not sure how strong it is on grammar, but they have programs that say they're worth high school credit.
  6. I voted I like polls! Hope that helps! ;)
  7. :iagree: Our dd's in a Youth group that does a Spring retreat and a Summer camp out. They do the same types of things mentioned above, plus hiking. It's a wonderful group of kids, and they di have a group leader. It's very organized and spiritually uplifting! DD LOVES going! I agree, though, each place is different, so talk to the leaders and see what is done and how it's run and ask any questions you may have.
  8. Whew, glad she's okay! Tough call on what to do! Only you guys know all the circumstances and what your dd is normally like. Best wishes with that!
  9. This off-topic, but your comment reminded me: DH's grandma used to give us books for Christmas and Birthdays. Every single one she'd already read through and underlined, and marked, and if mistakes were made, she'd use white out! She wrote long "notes" about certain things said in the book, sometimes blocking the actual printing in the book! :001_huh: :tongue_smilie: THAT is tacky!
  10. We asked, and found out that our CC doesn't do dual enrollment for the summer session! :( So make sure yours does before making too many plans! I'm sure you have, just thought I'd throw this in, just in case. :001_smile:
  11. Me too! :001_smile: I also appreciate the ones that said to do what's best for each child. That is so important, and a main reason we homeschool! We didn't do any honors or AP or CLEP with our boys. This year DD is taking 3 classes at a co-op with amazingly wonderful teachers. The classes are considered AP level, but she doesn't want to take the tests, she's decided, she is just thankful for the experience and knowledge the teachers are sharing. She is learning HUGE amounts that will do her well for college! DS20 went to a Christian boarding school his Junior and Senior years, and did very well academically. He'd done BJU DVD's for 10th grade, plus classes on our own. DS18 is doing dual enrollment this year, his senior year because he chose to. He is doing very well, except he just doesn't pick up on languages, so is struggling with Spanish. DD recently decided she wants to go into nursing, so suddenly has more drive to work through Algebra and get to Geometry. She's a smart girl but has struggled with Algebra. She did pre-Algebra when she was 11, and hasn't really advanced much since then, no matter what we have tried :tongue_smilie:. Now that she's a bit older, and she has a goal, I'm hoping it helps her get past this and be able to move forward! Our local CC has a pre-Nursing AA that she wants to try, so she's wanting to do dual enrollment next year as a Junior. I haven't pushed my kids into any of those things, but have encouraged them to do well in their schoolwork. Their personalities, interests and abilities vary widely, and so has their curriculum. They all have a relationship with the Lord, and are doing well where they are at. This statement sums our experience up also:
  12. Let me put this in perspective: My parents knew nothing about finances. Not their fault, they just never learned. We moved a lot. There were no savings to draw from. When they got money they spent it....... on cheap, unneeded things (as opposed to paying bills). When they got those letters with red writing that said, "Pay or else", they went out to eat "to show them!" :001_huh: THAT is an example of being a bad example for finances. What happened with you was a minor bump. You're able to work it out responsibly, and discuss it with your children. That is NOT a bad example! As others have said, don't be so hard on yourself, move on, and realize your children just learned about real life! ASK THEM what they can learn from this experience! :grouphug:
  13. :iagree: I voted yes, only because my kids have already done, or are doing, Algebra and beyond, and he helps with that now. He's a hard worker and so very supportive, and we've been very happy with how things have and are working! I have felt truly blessed to be able to stay home with our children and have the love and support of such an awesome husband! :D
  14. If you collapse the back seats of the minivan to carry the cargo, the floor will not be lower. :001_smile:
  15. :iagree: Yep, exactly what she said! :D ('cept I only have 3 kids) We have LOVED our minivan and I've been proud to own it....never had a problem with being a MV Mom!
  16. Just saw this thread, and it made me wonder how this turned out??? I hope it grew on you and you had a good year! We absolutely LOVED MFW AHL!
  17. I wish they had Greek at the CC, cuz I think he'd take it if they did! I think it'd make starting out the class easier with a bit of a background. I'll look up Athenaze, thank you! Yeah, he thought he could handle the Spanish, but he is NOT wanting to take the 2nd semester of it, cuz he got lost in the first one. We're just looking at his options.
  18. I didn't give him any credit for Greek Language yet. I just wondered what I could add to what he's done to get up to 2 credits of Greek. :tongue_smilie:
  19. Interesting! Yeah, he'd rather not head that direction (Arabic). But the State Dept. is one place he'll definitely need to at least check! Thank you!
  20. I found this on the 10th grade thread and it made me curious. Hope you don't mind me quoting you, coffeegal! Questions: What level do you consider the above for a transcript? DS18 made it through Hey Andrew Level 4 and a Greek Intro. thing his freshman year. This year he tried Spanish at the CC and hated it! I am just wondering if this counts as a language credit, and if so, what would be considered Greek 1 and what for Greek 2? He is not NOT a language person (hence the reason he has not done languages since 9th), and chose Greek for the interest he has in Ancient History. He HAS to get language in, that's why he tried the Spanish. The local CC offers German, Japanese, Spanish and ASL. He's considering ASL since he doesn't want to take the others. However, he MAY take Greek on his own if we can figure out how to add to what he's done to get 2 language credits out of it. Anyone have any ideas/siggestions?
  21. DD is currently in 10th, and this is what she's doing: Bible: NT/Missions--our own thing Math: Lial Algebra 1 (this is the only thing she's "behind" in) English: AP Level American Lit./Eng. History: AP Level US History (The teachers of the Eng./Lit and the History are twins, and teach the classes to compliment/coincide with each other. LOVE them and what she's learning!) Science: Physical Science (She did Biology last year) Piano & Voice Lessons (combined from same teacher) Home Ec: Mostly our own thing Spanish 2: Visual Link (has a built-in tutor, since her brother, 20, speaks fluent Spanish!)
  22. :001_huh: See, I don't get this. There are huge amounts of actual evidence that it DOES help prevent injuries! I don't understand how people can say there is no evidence for that! And about the idea that noone has addressed driving a car as dangerous... I see that addressed all the time! They introduced seatbelts, for one thing. That IS addressing that problem! If you say, "Why are they making laws for helmets on bikes, but not in cars?!" Someone else could say, "Why are they making laws for seatbelts in cars but not on bikes?!"
  23. My ds18 is 6'2" and skinny. I'm going to have to try this...thank you! :001_smile:
