Puzzled by common usage. . .

I don't remember how or when this topic came up, but because of the discussion on this board I tried Mavala Stop for my dd's habit of sucking her finger. We'd been trying other methods with lukewarm success. This one worked. It worked fast. Dh and ds have also been using it to stop biting their nails. All three are glad it works. I wish I knew who suggested this, because I really want to thank you! Mavala Stop

I'm so sorry, Claire! I hope they catch the culprit, and I hope you're able to find a way to safeguard the social security numbers. Maybe something here will help. Identity Theft Victims Guide -

He said it's a big city and he's not really interested in Seattle. (I know it's closer to Tacoma than Seattle, but the way the sprawl's growing they'll be connected soon, if not already.) I think he's also considering the number of slots available at each duty station. That'll make a difference in our choices. More slots means more chance of getting it (if something opens), but if we're lucky he'll get the one slot that may be harder to get but a better job for him. We're looking at our options for when he gets out of the service: employment opportunities, taxes (retirement, sales tax, income, and property), homeschooling laws, colleges, housing and cost of living, proximity to major airport, as well as weather. It'd be nice if we got there, loved it and could stay there after getting out of the service but, if not, then we're fine with living and experiencing another part of the US. (We've already lived in Washington once and he's had a job offer there for when he gets out of the service, so that may be another reason he's not in any rush to go back just yet.) We've been seriously considering Vegas, Beale, Wyoming, Colorado, Florida, and Texas. The negotiations with AFPC have begun.

Hmmm, your question has sparked a little conversation with myself. No, it doesn't bother me that he's an atheist, but that's not surprising because I'm an atheist myself. I enjoyed the Harry Potter books and movies and will watch the new one as well. I also read the Chronicles of Narnia series and watched the movies with no qualms or reservations. I like to tell myself that people are made up of more than just one part and I shouldn't write them off because I may disagree with an opinion, belief, viewpoint, affiliation, or whatever. I homeschool but that is not the whole of me and there is more to me than just that one aspect. It may run through the rest of my life and all my dealings or thought processes, but it doesn't define me. However, someone mentioned some other actors in this thread and it gave me pause. If I'm being completely honest with myself I would have to admit that if it is true that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie got together under less-than-ideal or dishonest circumstances and if there was in fact betrayal involved, I would lose any respect I may have for them and their pursuit of humanitarian causes. So I guess it's not that easy to say, "Oh, no, it doesn't bother me at all if they do such-and-such or if they are such-and-such!" I suppose everyone has their own buttons that can be pushed.

Are You Ever Surprised at What People Don't Know?
Apiphobic replied to AuntPol's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Yeah, I was looking at that, too. At first I thought it was 5 > 5 but that couldn't be. So then I thought maybe it meant 23 > 32 but that doesn't work either. Clueless here.- 196 replies

Are You Ever Surprised at What People Don't Know?
Apiphobic replied to AuntPol's topic in General Education Discussion Board
When dh and I had our boy/girl twins, one of the most common questions people asked after finding out that one twin was a boy and the other twin was a girl was, "Are they identical?" I did get annoyed after hearing that so often, but I've come to believe that it's not really ignorance. I think it's more a lack of exposure or awareness of whatever the topic or situation is. You know how you go throughout the day not even seeing a specific thing like, for example, a Mini Cooper? Then after you've bought one or maybe looked at one and decided that's the car you'd love to have, you see them all over the place? It's not that you were dumb or uneducated, it's just that you weren't aware of it until you connected it somehow in your life experience. I hope this makes a little sense. I've enjoyed reading the funny stories in this thread, and I know I've had my share of whoops moments. I'm sure I'll continue to as well.- 196 replies

Thank you for sharing this. This is good to know in case she ever does decide to post or publish her material. And, yes, I've heard some of the spin-off or sequel material is better than the originals. Oh, yes, I've seen some of the explicit stuff. I didn't realize so many here have written and posted fanfic. I guess I shouldn't be surprised ... look how many have started blogs. Thank you for sharing. Do you think it's become more popular over the years? I can't remember when I first heard about it, so I don't know if its popularity seems recent only because I've just become very aware of it or if it really has taken off pretty recently. From the little I've read, I wasn't eager to find more. It may have been the stories I found though, and I missed the good ones. This is what I was trying to decide, whether or not it was harmless and how much is too much. Thanks, Katia. I'm glad to hear she's not one of the few, the brave ... oops, lost my train of thought. I'm glad to hear she's not one of the few, lone homeschoolers reading this! :tongue_smilie: I know she has a couple of friends who have written stuff for it, and I'm not ... uhhh, well, let's just say I'm not beating down their door for any more. LOL Don't we all need some crap identification skillz?

Yes, dd mentioned that the feedback can be better than the original storyline. I'm glad to hear your dd is playing it safe! It's funny because I'd just watched the movie Gandhi before starting this book, and I keep seeing the image of him sitting spinning his thread when the author talks about intermediate technology. As for selling books, I think I'm done. Whew! Good point. Thank you. You're right, it probably is a phase. Thanks for reminding me.
