  1. Besides the wtm boards, of course. ;) I've set my homepage with several RSS feeds so I can glimpse the headlines and read what interests me. The feeds are Top Stories, CNN, New York Times, BBC News, Fox News, People ;), local weather, and Flixter Movies. Hmm, wonder if there's a Jon Stewart RSS feed I can add? I see many people have selected "websites," so now I'm wondering if you really do go to that particular website every day (i.e., http://www.nytimes.com or http://www.foxnews.com, etc.) or if you have an RSS feed.
  2. Just wanted to say kudos for not rudely tagging or one-starring the other thread. Leave it alone and let everybody play in their respective sandboxes. Some play nicer than others. Btw, I tagged this thread Sybil because I was giggling at all the different variations and names people call themselves in trying to describe their political views. I call myself a cheap liberal. Nice to meetya! :seeya:
  3. It seems like there have been so many high-profile deaths lately, but I read somewhere that the number of celebrity deaths isn't much higher than usual. The article said that it seemed that way because of who died, not how many. Which do you feel has made the biggest impact? The Summer of Celebrity Deaths?
  4. Obviously, I'm not going to be able to include all of the choices available. Therefore I tried to use the ones that had the biggest audiences and also include a few with different political views. I used this list as a guide: The Top Talk Radio Audiences
  5. Just wanted to share this Amazon wish list, because it has some good suggestions. Dh's favorites right now are the BodyGlide Anti-Chafing stick, the 5-hour energy drinks, Tootsie Roll pops, and an NFL Mr Potato Head. Deployment care package I'd also sent some posters to put up in his room. Some of his favorites: Movie Quotes The Wisdom of Einstein Journey of a Thousand Miles Instructions for Life Zelda Wisdom Tropical Beach These were from Adam Hersh Posters at Amazon, and they had a special where the fourth poster was free if you bought four. (Remember to enter the code.) The prices weren't bad but the shipping is what gets you. I'd ordered 16 posters from Adam Hersch/Amazon (split into 4 different orders to get the free posters), and there were three missing when he got them. When I emailed the seller, they promptly sent replacements and refunded the amount of shipping for the two orders that had the missing posters. It was also shipped much quicker than I expected, so I was very happy with those transactions. I was also surprised to find that most of this stuff could be shipped to Iraq. I don't think you could do that before. I also got some posters from AllPosters.com: Murphy's Law Bang Head Here Chief Hmm, I just noticed a differences in prices when I got the links for the posters. I think I got lucky on the sales. There's a 10% discount on first time orders. (Don't forget to enter the code when you check out.) Unfortunately, when I entered the zip code for the shipping address, it kept changing it to another zip code. So after placing the order, I had to email them to give them the correct zip code. They took a little bit longer to ship. He asked for outdoor wilderness pictures and most of them were, but I had fun picking out a bunch of others, too. When I get ready to send more, he said they're asking for sugar-free Red Bull drinks, s'mores pop tarts, and lollipops. They're also really getting into football season, so anything football related is game. I thought these football smashers would be cute. Whew! I hope this posts okay, because I gotta go and don't have time to proofread.
  6. If you click on a link and it asks you to re-enter your password, there's your first clue that you might have veered off the site you'd intended. Many times you'll see a link with something written to pique your interest, and when you click on it you end up somewhere you didn't know you'd go. CHECK OUT MY HOME VIDEO!!! AWESOME FOOTAGE!!! YOU'RE IN IT!! YOU HAVE TO SEE THESE HILARIOUS PICTURES I TAGGED OF YOU!!!! "Always check the URL displayed in your browser’s address bar before entering any sensitive information. Also check the true destination of a link before clicking it, by hovering your mouse pointer over it. If it looks suspicious, don’t click it. Also, if you’re a Facebook user, now would be a good time to go and review your privacy settings and clear out any applications you no longer use."
  7. Oops, I forgot. I sincerely apologize for posting that terrible little poll. You know ... the one about the vacuums. It'll never happen again, I promise.
  8. I'm not wearing any knickers. Just kidding! Happy birthday to you! I'd send you some bubbly if I could ... of the nonalcoholic kind, if you'd prefer. ;) Oh, great, NOW I'll have that little jingle stuck in my head! :tongue_smilie: Pan! Pan!
  9. I understand the feeling completely. :grouphug: I was just pondering to myself recently how much it seems things have changed, and I'm not thinking of this board specifically but in a larger sense. It seems like the political arena has become so much like a Jerry Springer show and all about the ratings and shock value than anything worth listening to. The discussion (if that's what it could be called) doesn't lead to persuasion or understanding, just divisiveness, anger and suspicion. I wish it could be more like Marc Antony's (or, I guess, Shakespeare's actually) method of persuasion, "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears!" That's power, imo. Enjoy the peace, Laura.
  10. Yes, I do. Unfortunately, they've been few and far between lately, so I really wanted to hold onto it a little longer. That's why I felt the urge to write it down. War torn? That was my kitchen floor this morning after my glass jar from the blender fell and shattered into pieces and the banana strawberry smoothie splashed all over the cabinets. :blushing: Thank you. Sometimes it does feel like it's all a blur. I should've clarified that it happened yesterday, and I wrote it last night. But I'm glad it happened whenever and wherever.
  11. I knew he had cancer and his show was canceled or something, but I had no idea he was that close to the end. :crying:
  12. Thank you. I'm hoping it helps me to keep things in perspective when I need a :chillpill: pill. Awwwwww  And thank you, too.
  13. The floor needs to be swept, the laundry's piling up, my oldest and my youngest daughters' beds haven't been made, the game room looks like a tornado hit it, the linen closet has been transformed into a "My Little Pony" stable, it's raining, I don't know what's for dinner, and my husband is living in a combat zone but I can't think about that too much or the lure of a Bartles & Jaymes numbotomy will carry me away ... YET ~ as I passed through one child's room to turn off a radio that was serenading away even though said child was no longer there to be romanced, I experienced a moment of pure bliss. And smiled. And I let myself be happy for a moment. I miss my husband. There's a never-ending to do list every day when I wake up. My life isn't perfect. But I feel so d*mn lucky. I talked to my husband on Skype today. He was happy because their bathrooms are working again and he'd just gotten a bunch of boxes I'd sent. He talked to each of the kids before they rushed off to a movie with friends. He was looking forward to finally having a few hours off to watch some football. It was nice to see a smile on his tired face. As I walked out of the child's room with the now-silenced radio and passed the disorderly game room that would strike fear in Mary Poppins' heart, I picked up a broom and started sweeping with a smile on my face. My kids are growing up. It's messy. But it's worth it. They're happy. And I like being with them. I'm so d*mn lucky.
  14. Are you kidding me? If dh had said, "Check the rates and dates and we'll book the cruise," the cruise would've been booked before he had a chance to say "Ummm, but what about ..." SHAZAAM!! ETA: No, it wouldn't stop me. As a matter of fact, we were considering February because of a low rate on a certain ship and specific dates.
  15. Okay, thanks a lot, guys. Now that I keep seeing "banned" and hearing "banned" and thinking "banned," I've got Band on the Run on the brain. Baaaaand on the run Baaaaand on the run And the jailer man and sailor sam Were searching everyone
  16. I think the original version is more violent than later adaptations. And Pan, the goat god, has been removed completely from some editions. One Amazon reviewer wrote: "All the British terminology has been removed, most of the references to things British have been removed, all references to guns & knives have been removed (but they left in the picture of Ratty entering Toad Hall with gun in hand), the entire chapter with Pan--one of the most enchanting in the entire book--has been removed, and most references to other literature (such as the chapter title "The Return of Ulysses") have been removed." This article might shed a little light on some of the concerns. Second Wind for a Toad and His Pals
  17. Yep, it's just one guy singing. (Although the Michael Jackson medley has a different guy beat boxing on the left-hand side.) One of my dd's also thought it was a group. I liked the Journey song, too. I'd posted this to fb and a friend said she loved his performance of Halo so much that she cried. (I still like the Journey song. ;)) Thanks for posting that! This was the first video I saw of the a cappella singing group: (3:20 long) I think the kid Sam Tsui stands out, and not just because he's short.
  18. This is all I could find: "usually pronounced fast to sound something like 'cally, bally, bow'"
  19. Tylenol or Motrin Benadryl (Two of our dc have allergies.) Inhaler Hand wipes (for spills or sticky drinks/food) and/or tissues
  20. That is such a sweet story! I'm glad you shared this. Pamela, I'm sorry things are so rough for you. When I get frustrated or feel like whining that I wish dh were here, I try to picture Maggie from Northern Exposure and tell myself there are women out there just like her so there's no excuse for me not to do whatever it is I wish I didn't have to do. Case in point, I wanted nothing to do with the wasp nest under our eaves. But, I sprayed them to oblivion and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. (Picture me doing the Rocky dance now.) But, of course, there are times when you just miss him, and the phone, email, or skype just won't do. Just know that he's missing you, too. :grouphug:
  21. I think homeschooling is what drew me here the first time. I'd just started and wanted to learn more about this method. The advice and curriculum suggestions are what kept me returning here. I gained so much from reading and listening to all the great tips and experiences shared here. Then the support and familiarity with similar problems and issues provided me with more reason to keep coming back. Now, I think more than anything, the laughter is giving me the best medicine. I can just hear "I Love to Laugh" from Mary Poppins.
  22. I know. Also found out he's attending Yale. Darn it, I meant to post a poll. Which do you like better?
  23. I saw the first. Then when I tried to find out more about this kid, I saw the song. I'm a sucker for Journey. The first video is 3:56 long and the second is 4:01.
