I am trying to figure out courses for this year for 12 grade. I am having problems naming some courses because I do not know yet, what they will be called. My ds is so creative and writes novels, illustrates his books, creates animation shows, song parodies, etc. that I am planning to put down but everything is not settled of what exactly will happen since I want him to decide throughout the year. There is also Spring semester for dual enrollment which we do not know what will be offered, so I do not know if he will do another dual enrollment course or not. I usually dont decide for Spring until later in the school year. Can I just list Fall courses and then when I send the Mid year transcripts I will have a better idea what he will do for the Spring time and add those in? Is it important to be matching classes all throughout the 12th grade school year for Transcripts for admissions?

Does the counselor letter need to be written to a specific university/college OR do you write it as generic letter to all university? One of ds choices is a Ivy League school, so we wrote a specific counselor letter to the one Ivy League school. Not haven't created an CA account, yet, I am wondering if it should be written more generically, with the qualities of the student appealing to all schools.....

Good question. We haven't decided what to do about Spring course for dual enrollment, or even we will have him do a Spring course for dual enrollment. Is it ok that a potential Spring course in dual enrollment not listed in the Fall, suddenly show up at the End of Year Transcripts? Am I over thinking this (lol)?????

Do I include 12 grade courses in the course description? I know the transcript will include 12 grade classes. Ds has such diverse interests from animation to illustration to creative writing that I am trying to figure out a course name for his creative outlet. Our homeschool evaluator said to write everything creative he does and how many hours and lets see what we can call it at the end of the year. The problem is what do I call it for College Applications? Senior Project? and then name it at the end of the year?

We went this past week to Asheville, NC and visited the Smokeys. It is very crowded! We drove through Gaitlinburg, TN to get to Grotto Hike. It was crazy crowded and no one was wearing a mask. Ok maybe 2 people. Luckily we were driving through the town. We did our hike at 5pm and we were the last people going up the trail. So we mostly saw people coming down the trail and were able to see the Falls ourselves. To us, the Blue Ridge trails were less people. We stayed away from popular hikes. We actually had a private tour of PARI, the radio telescope.

Oh I am responding to the OP......We just came back from Asheville, NC. Check out Mountain Springs Cabins in Candler, NC. Beautiful, relaxing place. We stayed in a Yurt (w/AC) but they have cabins and Tiny House, too. We had our own bathroom (w/lock & key) in a bath house for Yurt customers. Cabins have bathrooms in cabins. The SMoky Mtn was pretty crowded, especially in the popular hikes. But there were many hikes off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, that wasn't crowded. It was pretty remote and we were not crowded ( we barely saw anyone) at Mountain Springs Cabins place.

I called the College Board yesterday and they said he is still registered for Aug 29 date and to disregard the email. However his testing location did change. Its awful that he has to get up so early, too early, for SAT test because the test is so long, I hope he doesnt tire out before the end of the test.

Hello, Earlier this week, the College Board changed our location from a 5 min drive to a local high school to 45 min drive to another high school. Today I received an e-mail that said "changed location site" which the same school location as the 45 min location BUT the date changed from August 29 to SEPT 26! We signed up for AUG 29 date???? Are they changing dates, too now??? Anybody else having this happen to their dc?

Oh, you taking Cipro? THAT should get rid of uts. I used to take Cipro but I startd getting allergic to antibiotics so I found alternative remedies. Take 1 tsp of D-mannose 3 or 4 times a day for infection. LOTS OF WATER. Cant stress that enough. I think you can take D-mannose once a day for prevention.

i agree. UTIS are not fun. I use d-Mannose but I also use Body Anew Kidney formula. I use these 2 things and lots of lots of water. It works. Also, check out the drugstore under UTIS/bladder, there are some Cranberry drinks for utis, too.

Lanny- thank you for all your suggestions. They are suggestions for students who be motivated to study the SAT themselves. My ds needs accountability. That's why I am looking for a class. The only ones I found was Well-Traind Mind and HighSchoolMathLive class. He's had math teachers that motivate him and encourage him something I could never do for math. I have to outsource his SAT MATH just to keep his score up. He was supposed to take the June SAT but now that has to be August. Summertime is when he forgets math or it just goes way back in his mind. He is closed to getting a perfect score on PSAT in English part of the test so I do not need for him to spend so much time on English.

Congratulations! Me, too! My one and only is starting his senoir year. Yep, I am procrastinating the counselor letter. But I did start it back in Janurary with just some phrases and words, no real sentences. Now its cleaning and baking all the time.

Does anyone know of online summer SAT prep class, whether or not your dc used it. Maybe you saw it being offered while finding classes for your dc this summer/Fall. I am looking for one.

My point was that Pa Evaluators are usually homeschoolers with a teacher certificate. Evaluations are a breeze. Its not like in Maryland where each county actually have public school teachers be your evaluators and you end with homeschool umbrella group for evaluators and paying over 100's dollars per year and now I am in PA and I pay only $50 bucks! I should have moved in PA sooner and saved so much money. I just realized that you are going under the "Private Tutor Law". I don't know how that differs from Supervisor's (parent) of the Home as teachers. I just have my previous records of elementary/middle school of what of my son did while we lived in Maryland. No one asked for a transcript for elementary/middle school in PA. I never did a transcript until High School. For 8th grade (when we moved to PA), I just listed things we did for the PA Evaluator. I didn't do grades for 8th grade except for online Math and English classes my son took. She looked at samples (1 from Fall & 1 current sample) for each subject I taught him. All she needed was that I showed something that proved he improved from the Fall until Spring.

Oh yeah, don't forget fire safety... All home ed students are required to have "regular and continuous instruction in the dangers and prevention of fires". Most people interpret the law to mean that this needs to be taught every year, though extensive instruction is not necessary. It’s a good idea to do certain “fire safety” things every year anyway, like change the batteries in your smoke alarms, and review fire procedures with your children. Hi, We moved from Md to PA right when my son started 8th grade. He will be a senior this Fall. KUDOS for your teacher's certificate but it isn't necessary because there are alot of teacher's who homeschool their kids in PA and you can even find a teacher that supports unschooling....Just sayin for others are thinking of moving to PA. We are doing Parent Issued/ PA Evaluator Diplomas. I love my PA Evaluator - she is open to anything and your class for Global Studies is no problem :) I love the website http://www.askpauline.com/ for homeschooling in PA. English has to be 4 years-- Each high school year has to have English. That's it. Now you decide what kind of English (writing, literature, speech), grammar does not have to be all every year. So, World History can be anything do to with world history--- It's part of Social Sciences. These are general topics and you get to put together a class that has to do with world history.
