  1. Phew! Thank you all. We do discussion/narration and maps for each chapter too. It feels like enough for me. I guess we'll just keep on keeping on. ;)
  2. We love banned books. And we named our first Atticus. :D

  4. Come on folks. Don't leave me feeling like an underachiever at bed time. :D
  5. Printable worksheets: http://www.homeeducationresources.com/FREEpreschool.htm
  6. How much of the additional readings and activities do you do? We are reading fiction set in the time period we are studying (Middle Ages). We do one or maybe two of the activities. We do a notebooking page once a week alternating random topics or scientists. I am good about checking the additional readings out, but after one extra book on each topic ds's eyes are rolling back in his head. He gets it, he gets it! I see people mention that they read all of the extras and do all of the activities. Aren't your kids bored to tears with the repitition? Is my son missing something here?
  7. Draw from a hat and :auto: away from the curriculum board. Can you just divide them up and spread them out and see how that works? I'm using FLL and GWG right now. We do 3 days and 2 days. For Math, Singapore and Miquon...we do 4 and 1. Etc. I have issues too. :auto:
  8. I can take a few pictures this week and add to my blog. I'll try to update here. :001_smile:
  9. :001_huh: I'll have to take a look. I'm pretty sure when I entered the level it asked if I wanted to set a time. I'll let you know if I can find it later. You can always email and ask them. We can see the clock, it just doesn't do anything. :001_smile:
  10. This looks fun too. Dip yarn in watered down glue and cover balloon. Pop balloon when dry. As seen here: http://juicy-bits.typepad.com/juicy_bits/2011/02/173-unicorns-and-rainbows-party-part-1-the-details.html How old are your kids? Are you in Chandler, AZ? We might be neighbors. :)
  11. Family Fun has all sorts of simple projects: http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/ I'll be back with more! http://www.artprojectsforkids.org/ Bath tub soap crayons: http://www.kiboomu.com/2011/04/02/were-making-bathtub-soap-crayons/ Galaxy play dough: http://fairydustteaching.blogspot.com/2011/05/galaxy-playdough.html Super balls: http://makingmemorieswithyourkids.blogspot.com/2011/05/homemade-super-balls.html
  12. We use it with ds5 who is a very reluctant reader. We turned the time feature off. He can takes much time as he needs. If I put him on it alone, he guesses. If I do it with him, he does quite well. My only complaint is that they use a lot of proper nouns to describe people that ds is not familiar with (I.e. Pam, Tim, etc.)
  13. I'm a little embarrassed about how many of your blog posts I have bookmarked Angela. :001_smile: All of the 2nd grade goodies in my signature are secular. I came across one lesson with a religious poem in FLL2(skipped it) and there's a song on SSL that I skip over as well, but other than that, no problems. :D
  14. Subbing. Great ideas! Tonight I dabbed 12 different colors of paint into an egg carton so the young kids can do a scavenger hunt throughout the house to find things that match each color.
  15. No. We don't fit in. It seems most here are either too "unschoolish" or too religious. We probably wouldn't have time anyway. We go to gym one day each week and that's enough for me. I hate running around town.
  16. Also consider that Gerber is owned by Nestle and make sure that's a place you would want to put your money. :glare:
  17. I don't know, but 8/12 books for 2nd grade on that list are Little House. I'd prefer a bit more variety.
  18. Is this helpful? http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153829&highlight=book+list So much to read, so little time. Sigh.
  19. We use AAS. Everything I do seems teacher intensive right now. :tongue_smilie:The thing I love about it is how quickly it goes. It is open and go now that I have my rhythm (at first it was akward for me). We do either one lesson or 15 minutes. Normally it takes much less time than that. And ds8 loves it. :001_smile:
