  1. He can get a non-vax TIG shot if it doesn't look like it is healing properly.
  2. Keep it clean. You shouldn't need the shot unless it get infected. I'll try to find a recent article I read. Eta: http://guggiedaly.blogspot.com/2010/05/one-thing-that-has-frequently-come-up.html
  3. I only use the EP if ds needs more practice (I.e. Multiplication of 6s) so I just copied the pages as needed on to regular paper. I have 3 more behind him!
  4. What do you use for grammar and writing! Ds is starting RS German this year and I *know* am going to need help. I am awful with other languages.
  5. We are finishing 2B text and WB soon. My plan is to cover all of the level 2 CWP next, then move on to the IPs for level 2. Then do EP if we need. It's my first year using SM though.
  6. They *really* need to take that out of the book. Back when I was stressing over resources that drove me crazy. :tongue_smilie:
  7. I just stick whatever the subject is in the search function of my library's website and request a few of the books that come up. I pick them up off the hold shelf and always find at least a few that work. I don't worry whether they are on the suggested list or not. :001_smile:
  8. I can't remember where I read it, but I believe she designates a certain color of paperclip for each child and slips them on the cards that need review. So several children could be marked on a particular card.
  9. I bought the synthetic kit on sale at Hobby Lobby on a whim. Even though it was synthetic, 2 out of 3 of my bigger boys refused to participate and looked like they were going to vomit. I think we'll wait a while to try more dissection.
  10. I think you can. I read here that somebody uses different color paperclips for each kid. I've also read that another person simply writes the few that the most advanced student needs to review on a different color card. I know I'll probably get flack for this, but I could see doing it with just the book alone. I'd just note on paper which things we need to work on with corresponding page numbers. I personally find the card filing tedious. :tongue_smilie:
  11. 4/4 of my siblings reacted to vaccines fairly violently, but none of them developed autism. That's why we (so far) have chosen not to vaccinate. But we constantly reassess.
  12. :iagree: yes to all of this (except I studied Sociology). ;)
  13. I would just pick a few from near the end of WWE1, skip the rest, and continue on with WWE2. We are in a similar situation with 2 and 3. I had ds go through the table of contents and pick "x" amount. Once we accomplish those, we are on to level 3!
  14. Here is a recent post with some great ideas: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=276793
  15. Right now I keep the following in the boxes (drawers): 1. Math-Singapore workbook and text 2. English-FLL and notebook 3. Writing-WWE student pages and Writing Strands and notebook 4. Science-RSO student pages (2 days) 5. History-SOTW text and student pages (2 days) 6. Handwriting workbook and GWG (we alternate days) These are always left in. I attach a number tag to those we are doing on a particular day and add any extras to the box. I have reusable tags that say Art, Music, Spelling, Reading, etc. that I throw in the boxes accordingly. I work from a weekly schedule that I leave out for the boys to see. Generally if we are working in a workbook, I grade it right when the boys are done, move the sticky arrow to mark how far they need to complete the next day, and stick it back in the drawer. If it is something like reading, I don't mark the pages. I simply throw the Reading tag in the drawer and ds consults the weekly schedule to see what is required of him. The other things (art, spelling, etc) is all kept in my teacher resource area, hence the use of the tags. I can get my Ker and 2nd grader done in 10-15 minutes. The toddler box takes a bit longer. :tongue_smilie:
  16. I use planbook on my iPad. I print up the schedule each week, put in my binder, and highlight as we finish each assignment.
  17. We love stack the states and countries, rocket math, newton's (something), and traffic jam. I want to buy some of the ilive math apps. They are made by a homeschool dad and look pretty cool.
  18. I would go with level 2. It starts out pretty gently. I'd go with the workbook because it is all laid out for you. If you only purchase the text you will need to come up with your own passages. I know many people do this with success by using pieces they are already reading. My son enjoys the introduction to other excerpts and I believe that keeps it fun for him. Hope that helps!
  19. My son has tried that a couple of times. I make him add more details to the sentence. And I always choose the dictation. :001_smile:
  20. I use Planbook for my school planning. I love it! I really wan the momagenda app to use as a calendar because I adore the paper version, but I'm afraid to buy it based on the reviews. I use homeroutines to, ahem, keep the house in shape.
  21. We hibernate here from June through August. We are in AZ. :001_smile: Usually 90* and under we can handle.
