  1. Bumping in case anyone has insight on this. Now I'm leaning toward started MPH 3/4 once we are done with Earth/Space.
  2. We are currently following TWTM suggestion of the 4 year cycle, working on Earth/Space this year. We enjoyed RSO for Life and now for ES, but I feel the need to add library books each week. I was thinking of grabbing a copy of BFSU to beef it up, but realize it doesn't follow the cycle. Then I took a look at the Singapore Science, and I must admit I am impressed, especially with the middle school curriculum. I was thinking of switching over for third grade but MPH looks very "life" heavy, and to be honest, I will rip my hair out if I have to do life science again so soon. Looking at the content, Energy seems to be the only area we haven't covered. I'm thinking of ordering just that part to see if it is something we will like. Do you think I just move along the 4 year cycle and do chemistry and physics and then switch over to MPH5/6? Will BFSU help enhance RSO? My kids gets bored with supplemental library books in the science field for some reason. And I get bored doing one thing for an entire year. Help!
  3. If you've been doing FLL1 and are now doing FLL2, WWE2 will be fine. I think WWE1 would be redundant at this point.
  4. I think so. Ds finished level 1 in two days, but I'm glad we went over the rules presented in a concrete matter. He is very excited for levels 2 & 3 to arrive.
  5. My midwife is a dear friend after seeing me through two pregnancies and holding my cervix open for a few hours. Nudity with friends wouldn't bother me. :)
  6. Why? It will likely just piss you off. ;) I have tried to explore both sides, but it makes me absolutely furious. But I'll :lurk5: in case anyone has a good answer.
  7. I just started, but it seems like you could get by with just one complete set per level. You can buy a package of colored index cards and write on them accordingly for just one kid...the things he needs to review that is different from the other. I don't know. It seems like it would work. Maybe I'm missing something.
  8. Ds loves words, so I have Building Language on the way to me and I think we will have a lot of fun with it. Just a second ago, I popped over to the AAS lists by Queen Bee on spelling city and noticed you can upgrade to get vocabulary lessons for the AAS list. Has anyone tried this? I'm curious...
  9. We also LOVE Word Fun! Definitely worth the $6.
  10. FLL=First Language Lessons. We are a third of the way through level 2 and haven't touched them yet. Since ds was curious though, we checked a lot of the Brian Cleary books out of the library.
  11. If you are into FLL2 I'd definitely go with WWE2. That's what we did and it is working perfectly. :)
  12. We love "the voice" and dh does a perfect imitation.
  13. :iagree: We are behind right now because we took off (a few months :tongue_smilie:) around the birth of ds4. We are planning on working casually through the summer to "catch up.". It is mostly because we are all excited to move on to new material and I don't want to skip too much. Otherwise I am fine with being "behind.". I did choose to narrow a few things that I felt I could. For example, I chopped off the plant section at the end of life science for ds because he just did it in K and we talk about it when we plant things anyway. I also thinned out some lessons in WWE2 since ds is doing well. But my ultimate goal is to be at then of third grade by next summer. We are just a little over half way through second grade now. We'll see. :001_smile:
  14. I think the reason we don't need the textbook for the visual aspect is because we do a lot of whiteboarding while working from the HIG. My son would rather draw his own columns and rows of dots for multiplication than count smiling bumblebees. That's what works for us. YMMV. That being said, I think it depends what you want to do with it. If you are looking for more on the instructor end, I'd go with the HIG. If you are wanting something to explain concepts to the child (not instructor-centered), I'd get the textbook. The workbook will have the problems. I guess it just depends how you want to combine with your spine. It would be great if you could see them in real life. :)
  15. I might be able to help you more in a few days because I have levels 2 and 3 on the way to me, however we did not use PR1. My ds is the same age as yours. We just got AAS1 because while my ds is a great reader, he is not a great speller. We did lessons 1-19 today. :tongue_smilie: I am glad I started there though, because just this week ds pronounced Macedonia wrong...he needs rules. However I'm guessing we could have started with 2 or 3 and been fine. If you don't get an answer soon, pm me.
  16. MEP--but we love Singapore! ETC online--hoping ds will be ready by fall. Total bust so far.
  17. Are you continuing on with FLL3? We are using FLL3, WWE2, GWG2,and AAS right now. I find that to be good coverage. I love the idea of MCT and plan on adding Building Language and Music of the Hemispheres to the mix next year. However I feel that implementing a whole MCT program would be overkill (and expensive)...and ds begs to do GWG. Also, I love that he does it independently since the rest of his LA program is demanding of my time and attention.
  18. I bought a used level 1 set and was sent tiles with it. I had to make my own cl, th, sh, ng, and nk. I have wh, which isn't used in this level. I also got ai, ay, ee, aw, au, oi, oy, and ar....all not in level 1. Did she send me some additional tiles or did those come with the initial tile set? Do additional tiles come with each level? Thanks.
  19. Whenever I present the textbook to ds (the lesson part) after I instruct from the HIG, he starts rolling his eyes. It's overkill for us right now, although we are only in 2B. I think he also dislikes the cutesy, colorful pictures. I will continue to get them though, because I like to do the word problems together.
  20. We use the "scientists" pages from historyscribe.com
  21. Check out HWT Getting Ready for School. My sons loved that.
  22. I would check out FLL2 if she likes oral work and is reading at a second grade level. Or maybe level 3. We aren't that far yet so I can't speak as to how much writing is involved. How about Writing Strands for creative writing?
  23. We are on level 2. WWE takes about 5 minutes, 4 days per week. I do several lessons of FLL 2 days per week in about 20-30 minutes.
  24. That's what I was thinking. Maybe I'll just put things like Singapore HIGs in page protectors and 3 hole punch the PDFs that I can reprint if I need. Or maybe not. Lol. P.S. Boxes of 100 on amazon are around $12. Still $$$ in my opinion, but not as bad. I think maybe I'll put all the Miquon in them though and have the kids use markers and then erase the protector. Something has got to give with all the paper around here.
