  1. Well, Ellie, thanks for that. Just as I was thinking to eliminate half the problems, I was having the exact same concerns your were pointing out. That is what makes Saxon work for us and to eliminate half the problems would not be the right solution for this curriculum with this particular problem. I'm sorry, I don't mean to hijack but it seems like the OP and I are in the same boat. Blessings, Lisa
  2. My son (age 10, we are using Saxon 7/6) is the EXACT same way only he misses more than 5-8 out of 30. When he corrects the missed problems in front of me he almost always get them all correct. His problem largely relates to carelessness and sloppiness. We battle this with every subject. I really like Katemary63's idea and may try to employ that by selecting 1/2 of the problems I feel he is weakest in. I will be watching this thread for other suggestions. Sorry I could not be of help. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Blessings, Lisa
  3. We are using the English 5 this year. My son is a kinesthetic/visual learner, however, we have been using it successfully. We do everything but the worksheets (optional) orally or using our wall or handheld white boards. I like that there is a review of the previous lesson with every new one and that it is very thorough. Better yet, I love the price and the Christian content. It is very wholesome. I am going to use the Bible next year as well. Hope this helps, Lisa
  4. Yes, Colleen, that does help. Thanks! I am so confused about narrations. Basically, I ask him to dictate a brief summary of a passage he has read or that I have read aloud to him, correct? The times I have tried this I get a lot of huhs, like, ya knows, etc. What do you suggest I do to help him? I do have the WWE book. I need to read it thoroughly, I suppose. I don't know why I get so befuddled by the whole process. Teaching writing is definitely not my forte. Thanks for trying to help. I am going to implement your R&S idea. Blessings, Lisa
  5. We did WWE level 1 but have not consistently done copywork and dictation. He really dislikes the process of writing (penmanship) but is interested in creative writing. Should I still pursue copywork and dictation with him?
  6. Nomads that were hurt by robbers went to seek help. They made it to the city of Egpyt barly alive. The Pharoh of the city said why have you come here. The Nomads said we are hurt and need help finding are important necklace. The Pharoh saw that these nomads were adventurers and sellers. So the pharoh helped the nomads by locking up the robbers for good and the nomads gave the Pharoh the necklace for thanks. Any suggestions? For grammar, we are working through R&S5 and he does well with the assignments but has a hard time applying it to his written work. He does like creative writing. I need something that is gentle, not teacher intensive and that he will find fun. Thanks for the input. Blessings, Lisa
  7. Molly, you are such an inspiration and your faith is a wonderful testimony. You humble me. I am honored to pray for you. Blessings from a sister-in-Christ, Lisa
  8. My son is having a hard time finding the least common denominator when adding fractions. I stumbled across www.helpwithfractions.com and it was really helpful to him today. I hope it can be of help to you as well. Blessings, Lisa
  9. Thank you for the feedback so far. I definitely don't want anything that would be considered the TOG of Latin. As much as I would love to think I could tackle something of the sort, I know it would never work for us. I am off to take a look at LP. Any other suggestions? Thanks, Lisa
  10. My son (he will be 11) and I will be taking the plunge into Latin in the fall. I am considering either LC1 or Lively Latin. Any opinions for us? Blessings, Lisa
  11. I am so sorry for your loss. I will pray for healing and peace for your family. It is so hard to say goodbye to our four legged babies. You are in my thoughts. :grouphug: to you. Lisa
  12. Yuuummmm! That sounds so good. I will have to get my hubby to pick up some for me because I have banned myself from Costco for a bit until I get my self control in order. I can't seem to ever get out of there without spending much more than I need to or should. :D Thanks for sharing! Lisa
  13. Oh, Jennifer, the least I can do is pray for you and your DH. You have been so kind and helpful to me both here and at the WP forums. I will be praying that you and your DH are filled with peace and that His will be done. Blessings and :grouphug:, Lisa
  14. I voted no but that is only because of my own self doubt in being able to school him properly. After reading your post and the situation, I changed my mind. It sounds like you are the only chance (no pressure, huh?) that this young boy may have at receiving an education and the loving guidance and motherly nurturing that he needs. How sad for this boy and how selfless of you to be considering it. It will be a lot but with Christ all things are possible, are they not? I will pray that God's will be done in this situation. Blessings, Lisa
  15. We are using R&S 5. We have it all and I use it all. We do it all orally except for the worksheets and the tests. I like to have the worksheets for reinforcement. I like the teacher's manual because it has a review laid out for each lesson at the beginning of the consecutive lesson. Although I sit with him throughout the lesson and I read along, he does all the reading. This has been out first year homeschooling and R&S Grammar has been our one constant. My son is doing well with it but we definitely need to do it orally.
  16. Molly: As a fellow sister-in-Christ, I would be honored to add you to my prayer list. Keep looking to the Lord for your strength and peace. He will reward your faithfulness. Blessings, Lisa
  17. What a lovely, talented young lady. You are truly blessed! Lisa
  18. :grouphug: Sorry, Joanne. I will say a prayer and hope that things turn around quickly for your family. Blessings, Lisa
  19. I just had my son (age 10, very poor speller) go through ElizabethB's phonics program www.thephonicspage.org/Phonics%20Lsns/phonicslsnslinks.html and I have already seen an improvement in both his spelling and reading. We are now going to continue on with her spelling lessons and will go to Megawords from there. We tried Sequential Spelling but both of us did not care for it. He needs a rhyme and a reason behind the method and was not retaining much with SS. Definitely take a look at ElizabethB's program. It has been a blessing for us. Hope this helps, Lisa
  20. My son has been in private school for all of his schooling except for this year (our first year at home). I don't think he has ever finished a math book. The way I look at it your daughter is ahead of the game. Be happy for your accomplishment. It sounds like you are doing a GREAT job! :001_smile:
  21. Hi Amy: Thanks for replying. Can I ask how your daughter was diagnosed? Was it through the school system or a private resource? Hopefully, we can both benefit from this thread. Blessings, Lisa
  22. Art and music. Also, logic but that is mostly because my son struggles with it even at the lowest levels.
  23. The only famous person I have ever run across is OJ Simpson. :ack2: I would've much preferred Chris Noth.
