  1. Rainbow Resource Center http://www.rainbowresource.com/index.php Happy shopping!
  2. What about asking your chiropractor to take a look at the way your rental bike fits you, prior to your riding the bike? Or would she be willing to go with you to the bike store to be sure that you get a bike that fits you the way she thinks is best?
  3. My dc, 1st & 4th grade, are finishing up Prima Latina. My plan is to use Latina Christiana 1 with them next year, focusing mostly on my then-5th grader. My dc would like to learn Spanish (instead of Latin -- Latin was my idea, not theirs). My oldest had several quarters of Spanish at co-op a couple of years ago, and remembers some but has forgotten much. She thinks it would be too confusing to learn both. Would it be too confusing? Should I hold off on Spanish for another year, to give them a better grasp on Latin first? Or is it more sensible to switch to Spanish? I have already bought Latina Christiana 1 for next year, so of course I want to use it, rather than drop it and switch to Spanish. It's possible to return it, though, since it's a recent purchase... Help!
  4. My dad was against; he finally relented and let me get my ears pierced just before I turned 15. Then, oddly enough, he went with me when I went for another piercing on one ear, a year later! He didn't react positively, however, when my dds got their ears pierced at ages 4 & 7.
  5. I picked up a copy at the library today. It looks good, but big... overwhelming even. But packed with info. One of my dds wants to read it! I am also going to look more carefully at the Green Hour info. At a quick glance it looked very helpful!
  6. Try putting the earring through from the back. Sometimes I can't get my dd's earring back in, but if I put it through from the back it works.
  7. I am thinking about buying the Handbook of Nature Study (Comstock). I just wonder, will it help me teach nature study? Will it help my dc learn more about nature? They already enjoy getting out on nature walks, which we really should do more often. That is one of my goals. We have several field guides for our area -- mostly birds, plants, and trees -- and I'm not sure how the Handbook of Nature Study will help. I read that people who live in places other than the eastern U.S. find it less useful. We are in the Pacific NW. So: talk me into or out of it! Please tell me why or why not you think I would (or wouldn't) find it useful. How did/didn't it work for you? Thank you!
  8. Thanks for your ideas and suggestions. I am going to try cleaning her ears 3x a day with the solution. Also I'm going to massage the lumps using a warm wet washcloth. Maybe the heat & moisture will help...? I don't think they are keloids, unless keloids also occur in people with northern/eastern European heritage? But cysts are possible so I will ask the doctor if the lumps don't resolve soon. Yes, I do like the Trixie books. I don't have all of them (missing 2 of the last 5 written; I was in hs/college at that point and felt a bit silly buying them then!) but I still enjoy re-reading them periodically and hope that my dds will like them too. :)
  9. My dd got her ears pierced 3 years ago. She often has lumps in the pierced area -- feels like a smallish pea. Right now she has a lump in one ear piercing but not in the other. On the rare occasions when she wants to change earrings, it's hard to get the earrings back in. My other dd, who got her ears pierced at the same time, used to have the same problem but she massaged the area and she said some white goo came out :ack2: ; she no longer seems to have the little lumps. My cousin also told me to have her massage the lump. Should I try to get her to do the massage thing (she is 7) or is there something else I should do to treat it? She only wears Simply Whispers nickel-free earrings so I wouldn't think it's due to a metal allergy. Ideas?
  10. Shoes over the electric wire -- something I've seen all my life. I always figured it was kids with nothing better to do. The drug dealer who lived across the street from my family for most of my youth didn't have any shoes hanging over his electric wire.
  11. I require them. There's a seatbelt law here; I'll be fined if I get pulled over and the officer sees that someone isn't buckled up.
  12. I have to give my elderly cat a pill multiple times a week. I wrap his body tightly in a towel. Then I put him on his back on my lap, pin him down with one forearm, open his mouth, and drop the pill toward the back of his throat. Disclaimer: someone (not a vet) once told me that this could cause a cat to choke, but mine never has. If your cat is very uncooperative, using a pill gun might be your best bet.
  13. Thank you all! Now I have a lot of great recipes to try! :)
  14. At the local grocery today I bought a 10lb bag of unbleached white flour, store brand, $3.59. 5lb bag of Stone-Buhr whole wheat flour was $3.25. What shocked me: last week a 5lb bag of King Arthur flour was $3.99. Today it was $5.67! The rice supply was low but not gone.
  15. I would love to have a great rice pudding recipe. I tried one from the Internet and one from Sue Gregg's cookbook, and my family didn't like either one. My dc like the consistency and flavor of the Kozy Shack pudding from the grocery store; this is what I'm trying to duplicate if possible. Plain ol' sweet creamy rice pudding -- no raisins, lemon, nutmeg, etc. Oh, and if it can be made with leftover cooked rice that would be a bonus :) If you have a recipe like this, could you post it? Thanks!
  16. I bought the flashcards because they will be used again in Latina Christiana I. I am a slacker when it comes to making my own flashcards! I use the flashcards regularly with my dc. We listen to the audio CD in the car when we are out running errands. I think it helps cement the vocab and prayers in the kids' minds. Yes, the audio CD has the lessons and prayers from the DVDs, but the DVDs have a lot of extra teaching that is not on the CD. My dc like to watch the lessons on the DVDs. I appreciate not having to teach the lessons. :)
  17. R&S grammar 4x week Apologia Zoo 1 2x week SWO -- dd hasn't used this for a few years; I think she did it 3 or 4x week Handwriting daily -- if the child is learning to write or to improve handwriting. I don't do a program with my 4th grader anymore. I haven't used any of the other programs you listed.
  18. Hawaii! I don't like to fly, but my one brief trip to Hawaii was so worth the flight. I would love to go back for a month... all expenses paid by someone else, of course!
  19. It's a good deal if you and your dc are sure you really like to make lapbooks. One of my dc refuses to make the preprinted lapbooks (where the covers have designs and you put your own content in) but doesn't really want to take the time to come up with her own ideas on what to do... the other struggles with trying to be patient enough to work on them ("Here Mom, you do it for me!"). So for us, it ended up not being money well spent.
  20. Mostly here (on the old boards -- I'm working on my 50 posts) and on Vegsource. I also sold some of my SL stuff on the SL boards before they instituted the fee several years ago.
  21. I'm wondering... have the currently-in-print COFA books been revised from their earlier versions? Or are they entirely rewritten? Or...? I have an old copy of Sacajawea which my dc haven't read yet -- would the current copy have a more accurate story of her life?
  22. For my rising 2nd grader: WWE FLL (2nd half) R&S Spelling 2
  23. Yes, I'm really looking forward to next year -- MFW CTG. Every year I want to get started with the new curriculum around this time and fizzle out with what we're supposed to working on, so this year I've decided not to order until the middle of next month, when we'll be mostly finished with this year's stuff. The only thing I've bought so far is next year's grammar (R&S 5) and spelling (R&S 2) and I *know* my dc aren't itching to get started on those! ;) So they can happily stay on the shelf for a few months. One thing I am going to do for next year is get organized. I really need a better bookshelf in the school area, so I'm going to distract myself by hunting for it, rather than repeatedly pulling out and mulling over next year's curiculum.
  24. I bought this last year for my older dd. She loves it and uses it regularly on her own for ideas and instruction. I bought the hardcover edition, which has larger page size, and I am glad that I did (even though it was a bit spendy) because it stays open well and it is easier for her to see the examples.
