  1. I can live without rice, but TP. I definitely could not live without TP. Now, that is something to worry about!
  2. I emailed in a pre-order and a cancel for that pre-order a week later. I never heard anything either. I guess they are really busy. Gretchen
  3. Thanks!:001_smile: What a great site! That Balloon Invaders could become addictive.:D Gretchen
  4. :iagree: with Sue. May I join you on your soap box?;) I had Chicken Pox when I was 17. My parents didn't even call our doctor. My dds have not had a Chicken Pox vaccine and have been exposed more times then I can remember. To this day, they have not had the chicken pox. Gretchen
  5. MY dds found the short stories in OPG to be funny at times. I loved the program. It proved to me that you really don't need all of those bells and whistles to learn how to read. IMHO OPG and a phonics based spelling program like Spelling Workout is all that you need. We loved the magnet board! It was oh so useful and my dds loved playing with it. We stopped using it about a third of the way through OPG. Gretchen
  6. Congratulations! It is nice to get rid of that "Just Visiting" label. Isn't it? Gretchen
  7. Christian Light Education I found it here: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/boardabbreviations.php#inabbr Gretchen
  8. My understanding is that it is the same as Chicago Math, but I am not totally sure. Gretchen
  9. As a student studying to be a math teacher, I loved the program. I believed the Kool-Aid they were making me drink. As a parent of a child who used it in PS 1st grade, I do not like the program at all. It is strange that they focus on student achievement and still recommend using Everyday Math. Everything, I have heard and read says the opposite. IMHO it does not follow the Classical Form of Education. The program does not believe in mastering your math facts. Gretchen
  10. Oh! Do :iagree: with that. I'm on my second copy too. Gretchen
  11. :iagree: I thank you and your mom too. Your curriculum has made homeschooling so much easier and less stressful. SWB, please extend and a thank you to Sara Buffington who was a great help to me in the beginning of my homeschool journey. I will and do miss her advice. Gretchen
  12. We had such a get time on vacation in the Florida Keys. I have been going there since I was eight. This time, we flew, but we have also driven there in the past. My parents always drive. The water is crystal clear. We did not see any whales, but we saw dolphins, manatees, and a wide variety of fish while snorkling just off of our beach. We always stay in the upper keys just south of Islamorada on Lower Matecumbe Key mile marker 75.5 on the bayside. There is less wind on the bayside. We have been staying at the following place since I was 17. This is a very kid/family friendly place. http://www.keysdirectory.com/topsider/index.html Dolphin Research Center is a great place to visit on Grassy Key. www.dolphins.org Hope you have a wonderful time where ever you end up going. Gretchen
  13. :iagree: We too love FLL 3 and are looking forward to seeing a copy of WWE. Heather Love you signature.:001_smile: It is just too cute. Gretchen
  14. Oops, sorry. It is on the View Profile page. Gretchen
  15. Yes. We like it here. Gretchen
  16. :iagree: with Mrs Mungo. If you are following there 3 day lesson plan, you could try moving him to a five day lesson plan. This happened to me when my dd decided she didn't need to read the spelling tip. So, I had her write it for a few months and now she understands. Gretchen
  17. In our homeschool, I do speed drills to ways. 1st - I give them as much time as they need to complete 25 problems of the form: a x 2 = _____ . We will stay on x 2s until they get under 2 minutes. Then, we will begin x 3s speed drills. 2nd - I give them a page containing 100 problems. I then give them 1 minute to complete as many as they can. I keep track of the number of problems they completed correctly. I hope this helps. Gretchen
  18. Well, actually in one of my education classes, I was taught that homeschoolers are a bunch of right wing Christian extremist.:001_huh: Yes, I used to be one of them. But, I have reformed.:001_smile: Gretchen
  19. IMHO I think FLL 3 would be great for combining both the 2nd & 3rd grades. I started homeschooling a 1st & 2nd grader 3 years ago using FLL 1&2 on the advice from PHP. I just would ask a little more from my 2nd grader. So now, I have one dd is on track, and one is 1/2 year behind. But, come September we will have one dd on track and one dd a year ahead. Yea!:hurray: FLL has a gentle approach and WWE is coming out in May (I think.) Gretchen
  20. How is it? Any good? Some of those health teas just taste like :tongue_smilie:. I hope you feel better. Gretchen
