  1. Any advice for a mom whose children are way too attached to their things? My 14 yo remembers baby dolls that I got rid of when she was 3! My middle daughter especially attached meaning and value to Every. Single. Toy. She. Has. Oh how I wish I could go back and start over and never allow toy boxes!!!! I've been doing great decluttering my things and school stuff and clothing, etc. But the girls personal things have been a problem for years. And now it's really gotten out of hand.
  2. Moscato (a white) and Red Moscato! My very very favorite wines!
  3. Lots of good info here (zinc and aspirin is mentioned :)): http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/acne.html
  4. I didn't. But honestly, I don't find the presence of nude art in churches through the ages to be an indication that it's fine with God.
  5. So if we disagree with you, we're throwing common sense out of the window. OK, I guess the discussion stops there. That isn't what I said or meant. To bring doctors and medical illustrations into the mix is really comparing apples and oranges. I used the phrase "gaze upon" for a reason. I was referring to admiring nudity for it's beauty and as a means to praise God for His creation of the human body. I have no problem praising God for His creation of my husband's body, but I wouldn't want a statue made of him for others to have that same opportunity. If I include doctors and medicine in my view that nudity outside of marriage is wrong that would be silly, and would be throwing common sense out of the window. That's fine. I understand that many do not hold to a literal interpretation of scripture and that many are not Sola Scriptura. I knew when I posted that many many Christians, some posting in this thread, don't have a problem with nude art. But the OP asked for opinions and so I gave mine and was then asked to explain my opinion. :001_smile:
  6. I am capable of holding to the view that nude art is wrong without getting silly about it and throwing common sense out the window. In the bible there are midwives, and priests were able to examine people. Obviously there is a difference between nudity for medical purposes and nudity just for the sake of art.
  7. Yes, this is true. We each must hold to our own understanding of right and wrong. The bible does not make the connection between God clothing Adam and Eve and us putting on Christ, so I don't either. So only fabric garments are literal clothes in your mind? In your post you did not comment about Ham. I'd like your thoughts about that situation.
  8. That's mostly how these patterns are done as well, you don't join but just keep going until you get to where you need to change something or do more shaping.
  9. Thank you! As far as I understand, amigurumi is a Japanese art and the patterns all have a certain "look" - like animals with big heads, for example. These are just crocheted play food. I've found the patterns on Etsy or Ravelry. A couple of my favorites are KTBdesigns and CrochetNPlayDesigns. :)
  10. While I agree that the human body is beautiful, I don't think God intends for us to gaze upon it outside of marriage. Coming from a biblical perspective, when Adam and Eve were aware of their nakedness after their sin God covered them. When Noah got drunk after the flood and was laying in his tent naked, Ham saw him and told his brothers. They walked backwards with a blanket and covered him.
  11. I do have a problem with nude art. I don't think of it in the same way as porn, but I think it's wrong. My children do not view nude art. I would never censor a library book or one that does not belong to me, but I have done so for books that we own.
  12. I sew, knit, and crochet. I've also done quilting, smocking and cross-stitch. My favorite is crochet and knitting. I do not like large projects. I enjoy small projects that have a lot of shaping so that I do not get bored. :) My favorite thing to crochet is play food for my girls. Sadly they are just about too old for it now. Here are some pics: I like to do thread crochet too and make doilies and such. With knitting I usually make scarves and fingerless mittens, baby things like socks and soakers, and toys. Once you learn a few stitches you can pretty much make anything! :)
  13. T-Tapp and/or Callanetics. I love both and do both. I think Callanetics creates a more lithe body, but I love T-Tapp for it's lymphatic pumping and putting the body in proper alignment. I'm going to check out the Ballet Beautiful that someone mentioned!
  14. Years ago we adopted two cats from a shelter and the ladies there told us that coat color was tied to temperament. They said black cats were the most gentle and to get a black if we wanted a "lap cat". Calicoes, they said, more more active and hyper. One of the cats we adopted was all black and she was very sweet and was definitely a lap cat.
  15. I had another question (or questions...) if ya'll don't mind. :001_smile: You believe that Jesus was the firstborn of God's spirit-children - is there anything other than this that would make Jesus different than the rest of the spirit-children? If everyone needed to leave the Father and come to earth to grow and progress to the next life, and Jesus is really just another spirit-child like everyone else, how could he be the Savior? How could He come here and not *need* a savior like everyone else? I said in a previous post that I believe that Jesus is God and an LDS member agreed - do you all believe that Jesus is God, equal to the Father, or just "a god"?
  16. Oooohhh, thank you! I'll watch it soon! BTW, I just wanted to say that when I said "I have the King James Bible" I wasn't saying "my bible is better than yours", as if you don't use the King James - I was saying it's my standard. All my beliefs are examined in light of, and conformed to, the Bible.
  17. I'm not really sure what you mean by how do I reconcile or deal with different interpretations. Through what I consider is the proper way to study the bible - let the bible define itself, always stay in context, and believe what it actually says. I look up how words or phrases are used throughout the Bible, as well as looking to see how the Hebrew or Greek words have been translated into different English words in the Bible. As I said in a previous post, I believe many things different from the mainstream, but I can see through my studies where I differ and why I differ. I do my best to take all the scriptures of a subject into account and not just cling to the ones supporting a particular view while ignoring another set that disputes that view. As a small example of how I study, when Romans was brought up in this thread to support the idea that Adam did not actually sin, but only transgressed, I was intrigued. So I looked up the different variations of the word "transgression" throughout the Bible, as well as other times that Adam is mentioned in reference to the "fall" and I see that according to how the word is always used in the bible, a transgression is a sin. It is breaking a known and given law/commandment. ***Please note that I am not trying to change your views on Adam and whether he sinned or not, I'm just showing how I determine what *I* believe is the truth of the matter based solely on the bible**** Mark 15 (27/28) shows Jesus hanging on a cross between two thieves and says the scripture was fulfilled which says he was numbered with the transgressors. This is from Isaiah 53:12 - Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. I wonder how you determine what was translated correctly and what was not. I guess you would have to hold up your new revelations (Book of Mormon, etc) above the Bible and wherever the bible differed you'd have to say the Bible was the one in error? Many years ago I was struggling with what was the truth. I saw people on the internet researching and choosing to become Catholic, or leaving Christianity and becoming a Muslim. As I looked into different doctrines and interpretations and beliefs I got more frustrated and finally said "I don't know what is the truth, I only know that Jesus is God and He died for me!" I was also struggling with what people considered wrong translations in the Bible. The thing that initially stuck out to me was when God told Adam and Eve to "replenish" the earth - the same thing He told Noah after the flood. Everyone said it was translated wrong (that it should be "fill") but I had a big problem with that. How would we determine what was wrong and what was right? How could we trust anything in the bible and why would we then read it at all? To make a long story (and journey) short, I came to trust the King James Bible. I believe it is not just "God's Word" but God's words for English speaking people. We both have a standard that we believe in - you have the more modern revelations, I have the King James Bible. :001_smile:
  18. I recommend T-Tapp and Callanetics - the old Callanetics from the 80's. I love them both and will alternate which one I do. Both result in excellent toning without weights to build long, lean muscles that are elegant and not bulky. T-Tapp has some free exercises at t-tapp.com and there are some videos about T-tapp and Callanetics on youtube. Also, instead of focusing on weight loss, focus on inch-loss. Take your measurements before you get started and measure each week to track your results. Here's the link to T-Tapp's Try Before You Buy exercises: http://www.t-tapp.com/try/index.html
  19. Thank you, but you don't have to. I do believe the Bible is translated correctly, so I think there is much LDS doctrine that I couldn't agree with. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions! As I said in my first post, I've really enjoyed learning more about what you all believe. :)
  20. Oh, okay. :) I only used the Bible because it was used here as support for the teaching: ...so I thought this is where the idea originated from.
  21. Here's something about it: http://www.allqualityair.com/aqaservices/freon-law/ http://www.epa.gov/ozone/title6/phaseout/22phaseout.html
  22. I guess I'm wondering how it is that sin entered the world through Adam if what *he* did was not a sin. The bible says "by one man's disobedience many were made sinners" and "by one man's offence death reigned.." - the contrast is made between Adam and Christ - Adam disobeyed where Christ obeyed. Would it hurt LDS doctrine if Adam's eating of the fruit was a sin?
  23. Dh was 33 and I was 26 when I had our third. She just turned 10. Gosh, I never really thought about how young I was. I wanted another baby for many years, but in the last 2 or 3 years I'm totally content with being done.
