  1. angela in ohio- I have seen on other posts how some school districts do that depending on the course, but she made it perfectly clear that they only see them all as 1/2 of a HS credit. It doesn't matter so much now, due to knowing that I now I can count all of the HS classes my son took in MS as part of the overall credit numbers we will be okay. :) Thanks for your comment!
  2. We are in the state of VA, and I spoke with our homeschool rep for our state and she informed me that any HS level class taken prior to 9th grade should be put on the transcript under the 9th grade year with an astrick on the bottom stating that it was taken earlier as in 7th or 8th grade. They also are included for the necessary credits of HS. Yeah, this is what I thought but wanted to let everyone else know my find....HTH someone else! Thanks again everyone!
  3. So, I checked with a guidance counselor at our local HS and she stated that all CC courses count as 1/2 credit there. I'm not sure if she understood too well, but now I am really confused! :-(
  4. Thanks Jenny good to know, didn't realize that each district had a system. Will have to look into that!
  5. Thanks, I have painfully gone through most of those threads but was just looking to see those who have already gone through it and could share their transcript and experiences....:)
  6. Checked with his college of choice and our CC here transfers all of the classes taken there. Our CC said they would allow him to start this year (he met all requirements) but I waited not wanting him to start quite so early. That is a good idea of checking with them to see if they need certain classes etc. will do! Thanks for your comment!
  7. In our experience, my oldest used Derek Owens for Geometry and Alg. 2. and is planning on taking Pre-Cal next year. I have not had to do anything, he includes the student notebook with questions, lectures and he grades everything. My son loves it due to the fact he can go at his own pace and can do it on his own. I know DO has graded my son's work in a timely manner and is suppose to be there for questions if anyone has them. However, after two years my son hasn't sent him one question! :-/ Anyway, my husband was a math major and has been very impressed with my son's advances and completeness of the program...just our experience. Not sure how it would work for a child who needs more one on one teaching though.
  8. Thanks Jenny, that was so helpful! So you didn't list the years he took the courses? I see you allowed one college course to fulfill the HS course right? That is what I have seen and heard but wasn't for sure. Thanks again...anyone else?
  9. So, I am contemplating my oldest son's HS plan and even though I know things might change I am trying to get a good solid plan underway. I am debating as to let him go ahead and take college classes or continue on with classes I can come up with on my own and outsourcing subjects through other online providers like AP classes etc. Love to see those who have gone before me and what you all have done. He is several grades ahead in most all subjects, and has taken most HS classes so am looking for things to fill in his requirements for graduation. Also, trying to determine credits for college courses and HS credit on transcript. Read the past forums leaving my head swirling! I know that for instance HS you should have 4 science, math, history, and english but if you take some at the college can one college class replace one year of English say in HS? I know overwhelming questions...hope this makes sense. Thanks for the advice!
  10. The only one I am aware of that has recorded lectures and is able to work through on your own would be the Latin Alive series by Classical Academic Press, it is Christian based but that is not really shown that I have seen through the 1st year that we have done it. There is a DVD that goes with each lesson and it works pretty well. HTH
  11. Latin Alive by Classical Academic Press is a bit more user friendly as opposed to that. My oldest used Wheelock's but I wouldn't recommend that one, I would say it is similar to Cambridge. HTH
  12. Thanks Michelle for the idea.... have looked at them since that is one of my son's college choices for the future, but they are not classical and from what I have seen and I don't believe the rigor is there either...:( Sad though, both my hubby and I graduated there. Hoping to give him a great education before heading off to wherever he goes for college while I still have a say in his education...ha!
  13. My son has taken classes through Veritas and I like it well, just thought if there were any other courses that offered dual enrollment he could get both college and HS credit and it would be cheaper for me not to have to pay for the class in HS and college... :hurray: He is so ready for college work but it seems to me that the CC here and a few online places that I am aware of that would allow him to take classes are not that rigorous and so my main focus is for him to have a solid HS education. Just thought if there was both out there that would be great, otherwise I'll just keep finding classes like Veritas and others that offer classes that I am looking for. Thanks for the ideas though! Have heard great things about Lukeion, we just haven't tried that route..:) I'll check into the Cairn College...thanks for sharing!
  14. Thanks Root Ann I believe they do ....there are alot of HS classical online classes out there but was trying to find either dual enrolled or college courses with that critera...thanks!
  15. Thanks for your reply....I might need to explain a little more what I am looking for. I really want my son to get a good classical education, but feel I am not able to provide all that he needs now and therefore am looking to outsource more courses. I want him to take rigorous courses that make him think and that combine the history, lit and rhetoric aspect into one class. I also would like it to be Christian based if possible. He is very advanced and I can't compete with his mind....ha! I don't want to settle for any CC classes because they are not all created equal and it seems that they don't compare to some of these online classical schools that are out there. My cheap sides says why don't I find courses where he can get both credit for HS and college that are rigorous! Is there anymore out there? Anyone taken courses at Belhaven out there? How did it compare? Thanks!
  16. Looking for classes that are offered as dual enrollment courses for highschoolers that are actually classically based. Looking particularly at the History, Lit., Bible and Rhetoric combo would be awesome! The only one I am aware of is Potters with Belhaven U. Anyone know of any others? Thanks for your help!
  17. Easy Classical follows VP but they offer some different ones along side of VP. The link is: easyclassical.com/OTAW_Curriculum.html
  18. I didn't know that it was an option to purchase just the answer key. Anyhow, I have the Teacher Manual and it has some things to think about and other activities in it to include in the lesson but it is probably not a big deal if you didn't have it. It also gives you a rough guide to go by in regards to implementing the book and how to get through it. I think the books are pretty good, they serve the purpose....learning vocabulary and roots. :) HTH
  19. There is: Wheelock's which is a college based book which you can use Veritas Press with an online course which we did one year there is also Scholars Online that uses Wheelock's as well. This year we have done Potters School for Latin Readings using Wheelock's and have liked it so far. Another option is using Latin Alive texts and I know Wilson Hill Academy has an online course using this course as well as Classical Academic Press has resources you can do by yourself and now they offer online classes as well. HTH
  20. I did happen to come across this Catholic online school they offer online courses live or self paced. Just for those who are looking for a Catholic based education, no personal experience though. http://www.rollingacresschool.com/online-classes.html HTH
  21. My oldest is gifted I never found any online course for elementary so I just let him self study. What subject are you looking for? What ages?
