  1. EVERYONE has suggested to dump Wordly Wise so I have. While I agree that typing is not an important skill, he does enjoy writing stories but handwriting is laborious for him. His handwriting is beautiful but it takes him so long. I thought if he could type he could do his narrations and write his hearts content on the computer. We use a lot of games and puzzles in our home but I have checked out the ones you have suggested as well. Thank you for all of your links. They are all great!
  2. Wow. So many people have recommended Singapore Math. I will have to take another look at it. Math mammoth is what we are using this summer but it's not going too well. I really appreciate so much input.
  3. Well it looks like Wordly Wise is going to be too much. I added art because it is his talent. He spends hours with it and I try to encourage it as much as possible. Is there really that much in Adventures...anyone know? From what I could tell from looking (online) the only composer studied was Tchaikovsky...am I wrong?
  4. Kai, I have really looked into AAS but I just don't think he is ready for it at this point. I will probably go into it either 2nd semester or next year with him to reinforce the phonics we are doing this year.
  5. Thank you for posting this! I've been looking for something just like this! :)
  6. Anyone willing to look at our lineup for fall? I have an autistic son who will be 9 in September. He functions pretty high but struggles with reading/language skills. This summer we have made some progress in that area using Phonics Pathways. He has been in the PS system through this past spring. I feel like I have chosen too much but I have gone through the goals of his IEP. I welcome input from the hive-mind. MFW-Adventures Phonics - Phonics Pathways Spelling - Spelling Workout A (he chose this and I thought it would help him remediate the phonics as well Grammar/Narration - FLL 1/2 Vocabulary - Wordly Wise 2 Math - Saxon Math 3 Earobics Art - Artpac 2/ Weekly Artist Study/ Possible Homeschool Art Classes Mustic - Weekly Composer Study Karate/Homeschool Gym Classes Computer - Typing Instructor for Kids

  8. I use the 10 drawer cart and they are on sale for 34.99 right now at Michaels. They are made for scrapbooking but work perfect for our purposes as well! :)
  9. Thanks ladies! I knew I came to the right place!
  10. This may be a silly question but I had some items laminated and before I get out my handy dandy markers, I was wondering whether I should use dry erase markers or Visa-vis markers. Could someone help me out? Thanks! :)
  11. This is exactly what I've been looking for! Thank you so much for sharing! Now if I can only find one for art I'll be all set :auto:
  12. I've had migraines as long as I can remember and am another fan of Excedrin. I usually will take mine with a cup of coffee as soon as I feel the pain coming on. I agree that weather changes can be a huge trigger. I also agree with other posters about seeing a specialist if your migraines persist. A combination of the right prophylactic meds along with having rescue meds on hand allow you to function as you need to, being a busy homeschooling mom. :)
  13. This will be my second time around homeschooling as I'm pulling my 2nd grader out of school and have two that have graduated. I wish that I would have made more time for fun! I was way too serious and we never got to all the extra activities that I always "meant" to get to. I intend to do the field trips, nature hikes, co-ops and those fun activities that make school an adventure and not just "school at home". My son has a love of learning that the school is intent on squelching but I intend on extending and nurturing. One thing that we did that I really enjoyed was a lot of reading aloud and I intend to continue that tradition. Devotions and Bible studies were also a core part of our day and it has shown in the development of my girls' character. I wouldn't change a bit of that. Keeping to a schedule is important as long as it's not written in stone. If an interest is sparked, it is good to follow with that intent while the child is determined. I do wish that I would have followed down some of the rabbit trails that my girls has sparked interest in during the years instead of sticking strictly to the schedule. Now, if my son shows an interest in a topic, I will run to the bookstore or library for a book on the subject and see what I can find on the Internet for him. When he is out of school, we will take some mini-trips to follow-up on the subject. One thing that I did that I wish I hadn't done was change curriculum too often. I knew that I liked MFW but I kept looking for "greener grasses" and tried putting together my own. I think we ended up with gaps along the way. Some moms are really good at putting together a plan with various curriculum from different companies and doing a very good job at it. But other times, when mixing and matching over the years, you get a discombobulated mess. I think we ended up doing well over-all but it took a lot of work that last two years. Not something that I'd like to do over. After eighteen years in the trenches, my advice is to have fun and love on your children. However, plan in advance and know where you are going :)
  14. I was just looking at these too. Anxious to hear any replies! :)
  15. Taking time off was my original thought. However, he does need a lot of structure, even in the summer. I figured that I would give it a try and see what happens. He has been begging me all year to homeschool him so I think that the interest is still there. I guess I could always back off the academics if it's too much.
  16. That's what I was thinking too Shay. Too much overload if I add something else.
  17. For those who have read my previous post, I have an autistic son who also has adhd and ocd. He has dyslexia as well (visual and auditory processing disorders are not likely but haven't been ruled out yet...working on it). He's been in the PS system for the past couple of years and I want to pull him out in the fall. Right now, I am planning his summer school schedule and think I have it planned out. My main focus is reading and math while I wanted to include some other topics but keep it light for interest. Should I do spelling now or should I wait until we detox a bit? 18. This actually makes sense! I think it could work with my aspie son. He eats pb&j and cereal... :tongue_smilie:
  19. Did R&S with four of my five!! They were great...Can always add Kumon if more practice is needed in a certain area..R&S is much less expensive and all areas are covered.
  20. I have used this CD and notebook from Love to Learn with a couple of my children and we have enjoyed it: http://www.lovetolearn.net/catalog/detail/notebook/2
