  1. My son finished WWE 3 as he just came out of ps for 5th and had no previous experience. I still think he needs more practice with WWE 4 IN 6th grade this year. Would starting WWS in 7th be considered 'late' for the program or should I have him do half WWE 4 and this year and maybe start WWS in January? Pam
  2. Is completeing the four levels of WWS enough for writing or should I supplement it with IEW as well ?
  3. We are using IEW writing with my sth grader along with WWE. I do plan to use Writing with Skills as soon as it is available as he really likes WWE. Will we be able to drop IEW in place of Writing with Skills ? Pam
  4. Could not be happier with our decision to use Rod and Staff year :001_smile:
  5. We're using R&S grammar too which we like. I plan to listen to the mp3 you suggested today. thank you!
  6. curious as to what comes after WWE 4 ? Also, I heard something about a writing program from Susan Wise but haven't found anything on that yet. Any idea about that? :)
  7. I think homeschooling year round is going to be our plan as well. I just hear that year 2 is a real meaty year in general and wanted to see if that was the casw with others who have already done year 2>
  8. Thank you for your suggestions! I'll have to get my hands on TOG yr.2 to look it over to see how much reading there would be in one weeks time. Still waiting to see yr.2 on sale on these boards but no luck so far. Have you heard anything postive/negative about the online co ops ? He might enjoy that but then we would have to go by their schedule> pam
  9. we are in our first year homeschooling and are using TOG YR1. I've read that year TOG YR 2 is alot of work. So, as i plan for next year (ds will be in 6th and dd in 2nd) I wanted to check in with others who have done TOG YR 2 in the past how much reading and work is there to expect? thanks, Pam
  10. My son was pulled out of ps for 5th grade and I chose CLE 5th grade for his math. However, I found out that CLE math is about a year ahead. Even though Ryan had done well in math in ps CLE for his current grade was advanced. I decided to drop it down to 4th grade ClE but decided also to try TT6 because he is auditory in learning...so it was TT6 but CLE 4th grade to supplement...he likes TT6 best because I think it suits his learning style best.
  11. My DS11 uses TT6 and supplement with LOF also. Sometimes he'll also do acouple of pages from math mammoth which he likes ,too.
  12. The one short story I remenber from high school is Bliss...a day in the life of a happy ,native young woman who is surrounded by shallow vain people but she is blissfully unaware of her circumstances.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bliss_(short_story)
  13. Tapestry of Grace, Explode the Code, Teaching Textbooks, WWE, All about Spelling..there's so much that we've liked this year!:001_smile:
  14. We were using Apologia Land Animals for my 5th grader and 1 st grader but decided recently to get Elemental Science for my 1st grader..I think she would get much more out of the shorter, gentle lessons...Apologia was just too much information for her to really grasp.
  15. A TOG blog that I read is from a lady from the tapestry yahoo group Yr 1..it's http://homeschoolblogger.com/teacupsinthegarden/ She has older kids and does these really neat unit celebrations complete with handmade costumes and the whole nine yards..
  16. After being in public school up to 4th grade my son LOVES TOG ..he tells me he loves, loves, loves it! It's like a breath of fresh air after so many years learning only the basics in public school...actually, we both are learning alot!
  17. at least we can be scared together:grouphug:. I have a 5th grade son too who we just started to homeschool this year. Like you,we like our cirrculum so we will continue with that next year. It's high school that really freaks me out:confused: but I'm just going to take one day at a time:chillpill:
  18. My 5th grader and I love Rod and Staff ...:001_smile:
  19. I had asked a similar question about my 5th grade son but my post fell off the radar, lol. I got CLE 5OO for him and it was alittle advance since he's coming right out of public school. He usually loved math but there wasn't much in instruction in CLE. he's an auditory learner so TT seemed like something he would enjoy. I went ahead and ordered TT6 and he LOVES LOVES it. He has done 5 lessons so far and it seems very easy for him......but I think I need to supplememt it. I might go with CLE just 4th grade since it runs one year ahead of public school. Pam
  20. Hi, This is my 5th son's first year homeschooling. In PS he was always good in math and so this year we started with CLE 500..well, we found it it's alittle advanced for him. He needs instuction (he's an auditory learner) and math is not my strenght I decided to get the Teaching Textbook 6 for him. He loves it but I worry from all the reviews that it too easy..so I wonder if we could do both CLE 400's and TT. Does anyone else do this? He also reads LOF fractions but does that on the side. thanks, Pam
  21. My 5th grade son is also using CLE math along with my 1st grade daughter. I love it for her but I think my son needed alot more instruction (he's an auditory learner, too). So, I did order the TT 6 which should be here this week. I think he'll use the TT and then supplement with CLE..we will see how it goes:001_smile:
