  1. How do you "make" a child go somewhere in this situation? She's already said that her daughter won't even get dressed, let alone go out the door. I'd keep her home. She's obviously very upset and I don't think that physically dragging her out the door and dropping her at the school screaming is the way to go. Just my opinion, of course.
  2. Make your *own* decision for her based on what seems right to you, now, in the situation.
  3. ok what's the big deal about a kid liking gym activities? i didn't homeschool in kindergarten (took the kids out later) but it looks like people have given lots of great extra suggestions. :)
  4. Here's a few on repeat around here a fair bit right now... Shelter - The xx ...my faves change all the time... depends on what fits.
  5. I haven't seen the show much - not at all since they split - but if I *could* wear heels....I'd prolly wear them darn near everywhere. my feet hate them, sadly. boooooo. i don't really think any reality shows are...well....reality. :tongue_smilie:
  6. loving your wording there (where i bolded) ...and this reads, to me, like a very graceful post. i suspect we can all give back the same and not tear your previous post to bits anymore. :cheers2:
  7. my dh and his father barely even acknowledge each other, so.... ...but different families, different cultures... does your dd's bf come from a cultural (or other) background that might be a lot more 'touchy' than your family? might be a factor.
  8. Nope. It's more of a 'depends where you are' type of thing. :)
  9. oh hey..do you have a disney store anywhere near you? i'd check there as well.
  10. Walmart (here anyway) is currently carrying a line of "Miley Cyrus" clothes...but I don't know if your cousin's daughter would view that the same or not... also, the clothing isn't in the little girls' section...it's in the ladies, but sorta.. junior size? or whatever? not sure if that would work...but you might want to look.
  11. This just makes me sad. same. i realize that different families have different ways of doing things, but that wouldn't fly in our house - nor would i ever 'support' (agree with) someone else doing it.
  12. I get very cranky when I'm hungry & tired too. She's only ten, so I assume that you provide the meals and/or snacks? and determine the bedtime? I'd see what you need to change there, rather than looking for punishments.
  13. How in the world would they "determine" what students attend what high schools?
  14. so how's the school thing work? wondering if i should connect dd13 with the local school here... do you just list one? (she'll be devastated if she loses her account - we moved a couple of years ago and fb is her main way of staying in touch with old friends)
  15. dd13 has a page and doesn't have anything listed for a school... i set it up, but i don't remember what - if anything - it asked for that...
  16. I wouldn't worry about that ~ it's more for situations such as someone making up jobs that they never had, lying about courses they never took, checking 'no' for criminal record sans pardon when they do have one, etc.... I don't think it means that you need to include every.single.detail about you.
  17. hmmm.. my dd13 was making close to that each week for a bit this summer, between various babysitting & odd jobs... but i suppose if it's a *constant* thing, it would be different...plus, with ebay you're dealing with cheques, money orders, paypal, credit cards, etc.. not just a cash job. that would change things too, i suppose. sorry, i wasn't thinking of that. :)
  18. the group that we're is fairly small (12 families) and has 'planning' meetings at someone's home (varies) each month. kids are welcome if there isn't someone to look after them or they aren't old enough to stay home on their own. :)
  19. wow.. i didn't think selling on ebay was that big of a deal - taxes, business licenses, labor laws? i'd have thought of it more like a yard sale. or babysitting. or walking the neighbor's dog. that sort of basic, no frills stuff.
  20. ok i suspect that some people are skipping this because they don't get the joke in the original posting... the b & f words are not what you think they are. ;)
  21. dd13's favourite movies are the Twilight series, Transformers 1&2, GI Joe, all of the "Buddies" movies (the little golden retriever pups - there's several movies), the Narnia movies, Harry Potter however-many-there-were and *The Neverending Story. *writing this just stuck in my head.
  22. The tricky part though - how do you (and who gets to) define "education"? It's quite obvious just by looking at the variety of home educating methods, public & private school designs, etc, that people often define it differently. Who gets to make the rules?
  23. I've watched all the Angel seasons, but never Buffy ~ and now I don't think I could.. I have the characters a certain way in my head and it would be just all wrong to see them "before".
