  1. I can so relate to everything you are going through. I know how hard it can be. Hope your hubby finds another jobs soon.
  2. You are right about TN and I would be nervous in your shoes as well. We are watching AL and considering a retirement move to Huntsville which is about two hours away.
  3. Here is a link to TN's LBGTQ rights: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Tennessee Please note the law that prevents transgender children from using the bathroom (presumably any bathroom?) in public school and the one that prevents male or female impersonators in public (vague much?). Transgender people cannot change their legal documents. We have a transgender pronoun law. And of course the denial of health care related to any gender dysphoria. Also notice that in several instances a person can be denied their legal rights based on the "sincerely held religious beliefs" of an agency and in practice even the beliefs of the person servicing them. It is not a legal right if it can be denied based on someone else's religious belief. You hear a lot of conservative talk about how none of these new laws have anything to do with religion but you can clearly see beneath that here in TN. When I moved here 20 years ago, I fell in love with the place even though it was slightly more conservative than I would prefer. Over time we decided that we didn't want to move again and that we would probably retire here. Over many years, I finally managed to get all my girls here. But with all the legal changes happening here over the last 5 or so years. I can hardly stand to live here anymore. My children keep me here but my anxiety increases daily as the laws change.
  4. I have difficulty walking and lots of pain in my feet, legs and lower back. I have only been able to wear crocs for a few years now. I buy the fur lined ones and wear them with socks in the winter and without socks in the summer. They are very comfortable but I would like to wear other shoes especially in the summer. I can't really feel my feet though and don't feel safe trying to wear sandals like that.
  5. I am a live and let live kind of person. You do you and I'll do me. I don't think it does children any harm to know that there are all kinds of people in the world and that even though we might not understand why they are the way they are we treat them with human decency until they give us reason not to. Also, I am so very uncomfortable with idea of trying to legislate who people can be. The world is a big place with lots of room for everyone. If you don't like something don't make it part of your life and don't try to make others conform to how you want to live your life. Lets approach everyone as people first instead of trying to label them and put them in little boxes and legislate how they can exist and interact with other people.
  6. I agree. I think that they could have cut a lot of what was in the series and maybe presented it as this is what the parents said and this is what we found to be true with additional information about why the someone might have thought differently based on her own particular situation.
  7. Well lately, I am wishing I had sold my house a year ago. I onced allowed something that my momma gut told me not to and I was right. And if I knew then what I know now and was able I would have reversed the birth off my last two children. The older of the two needed more babying and the younger not so much. And I would have the youngest out of the house by bow. I don't really know that there is much I could have done differently about my health so I don't fret about it much. Pretty much everything else has turned out pretty much as I would have wished. Even if we had all the money in the world we would still sell this house and downsize. Buy a car that is newer than 20 years old and maybe travel a little if I was able.
  8. I agree that we don't have all of the information that was presented to the judge but they did have her medical records from that doctor that stated she was the age presented and we have the word of the detective that finally investigated the case and he said there was no evidence supporting re-aging her. It is possible that the judge had other information that we do not know about but based on everything I have seen and read I find it easier to believe that there was one bad judge (either through ignorance, incompetence or malice) than that that there were multiple people in error. But you are right anything is possible. I also agree that it should not have been such a media spectacle unless Natalia herself wanted it brought to light. And just as an aside I have had experience with many bad doctors and no bad judges so it's not like I am naturally inclined to believe judges are intrinsically bad and doctors are intrinsically good. Nor do I hate the justice system but events of late do lead me to believe that it is realistic to believe that judges are making decisions on things they are not qualified to decide on their own and that what is legal and what is scientifically correct are not necessarily the same thing.
  9. The company that he signed a contract with contacted him again today and set up a firm time and date for this new interview with the company he would be working for. I can only assume that they must have had some change in the project leader and they want to make sure there is good chemistry between the new one and my hubby. I would logically think that since he has already been offered the job once that it would be fine and he could start work soon but I know that is no guarantee. I am really hoping that is the case though and he would begin work soon.
  10. We have no money to buy a trailer or even rent something without a sell already going through. We do know how long it can take to sell a house. It took us 9 months to sell one the last time we moved. But if it comes to it we will try to sell and work out renting it back for a short time to give us time to find a new place and move household. Most of my medications are pretty cheap but I have had quite a few surgeries in the past few years and still need at least one more plus they are still doing quite a bit of expensive testing. We were up to date on all the medical bills until about six weeks ago but now owe about $3000 for the last surgery and some MRIs. I am also seriously past due for dental care (more than just cleaning) and our half is usually due up front so we are still putting that off.
  11. Almost all of my kids are currently cohabitating with someone else. My eldest dd is the only one that isn't and the reason she wouldn't have room for my youngest is because she has a SO that also lives with us so it wouldn't be just one more but two. My second dd lives with my brother, the next two share a two bedroom with their SOs and my youngest and her SO live with us. Oh and all but one live here where we do. My hubby was not previously considering traveling jobs or ones that required a move because of my health issues but I have told him to start considering them and we will manage with my children's help caring for me as needed.
  12. Yes, he has gotten help from people here on the board, hired two different professionals, worked with headhunters and the VA. He has also had plenty of interviews and usually makes it to the third interview and has even been promised jobs that somehow fell through. He well qualified with almost 30 years experience and the appropriate degrees. He is well known and regarded in his field. He has never been unintentionally unemployed for more than a couple weeks. He was laid off from his first job during covid due to age and then laid off again the next year for basically the same reason. He is beginning to think that people won't hire him because of his age even though he is still sharp as a tack and physically fit. He is also beginning to wonder if companies can somehow know my extensive medical costs over the past few years and might not be hiring him because of that. I don't know if that is possible but he is having a hard time coming up with a reasonable explanation. Oh and he has went through a few employment agencies and headhunters as well as applying for government jobs through the VA. He does have interviews set up for the local county gov. and the IRS. They don't pay what he was making but are much better than any alternatives he currently has.
  13. The thing about the contract jobs makes so much sense. We never considered that before. That is a terrible thing to do especially if they actually offer a job before a contract has been secured. My disabilities are pretty bad. I can't really do much physical at all. I can really only stand or walk for about ten minutes at a time. I might could do some computer work from home so I will look into that.
  14. Yeah, we figured that out, unfortunately a little late but now we know.
  15. He has interviewed with the but was not hired, not sure why.
  16. I do have lots of things to sell, it is just a matter of going through things and pulling out what can be listed. My health has been particularly bad the last two weeks with three doctors appointments. At this point they are looking at something like MS or MD. I will get my eldest to come over sometime soon and help me. I did pull out an entire bookcase worth of books to list and some of them are worth a good amount for a book.
  17. There is no evidence that the doctor ever thought that she was older. No paperwork, nothing in her medical records. There is just the word of basically the father that the doctor said this. It really does appear that the judge independently and arbitrarily made this decision without any input from any doctors, social workers, counselors or anyone else. I do not have a hard time believing that especially given all the judges making decisions in regards to women healthcare these days which they are obviously not qualified to make. This is what happens when we allow politicians, lawmakers and judges to pass law and judgement on things they know nothing about.
  18. The PCP in question died more than five years ago so it is not possible to get any more information from him but in her medical records he states that she is the age that was stated on her passport and there was no mention of re-aging her. The only person that claims to have heard him say that is the parents (well the father really, I don't know of anything being said by the mother). They did not present any paperwork signed by the doctor saying that her age was wrong.
  19. I will let him know to check that out.
  20. All of the children and my brother have been contributing what they can when they can. I never thought of traveling nurses. We will look into that.
  21. I have a fairly large brood and when we go out to eat it sometimes takes three or four trips to the table to get everyone's food out so we eat as we receive. There have also been times when one person's food did not come so if everyone waited then everyone else's food would have been cold by the time the missing food arrived.
  22. Well her family members were interviewed and they said it was the same child plus she had this child pretty young and would have been ten years old when she had her if she was as old as the judge said. I also believe that they had prints from birth and when she got her passport. I can't see any logical reason to question her age in the first place.
  23. So he heard from the people that hired him for the contract that was supposed to start on May 15th today. They think that they will have the money to start the project soon but now they want him to interview again although he had already filled out all of the hiring paywork six weeks ago. I really don't know what is up with them but I am not very happy about it. He filled out the contract at the end of April and we scraped up enough money to cover til the first paycheck and he quit looking for a job and then they delayed him twice and now they want to interview him again. It would be best if he interviewed with them again and then everything proceeded as planned because that would provide the quickest paycheck but I don't have a lot of faith in them. I don't even know if he has any recourse since he signed a contract to work. He has had similar happen a few times now. Companies would put him through 3 interviews and practically tell him he had the job and to expect the offer within the week and then not hear from them again until he made contact only to be told that they decided not to go forward (usually). And then a few that would go through all of that and then contact him again two months later for the same job. He also was picked for a different contract and had pretty much the same thing happen. He has been hired three times now where he was given a beginning date and then the job fell through somehow. It has been crazy. It has seemed like we would just have to make it another month a few times only to have to start all over again. It is so frustrating.
