  1. I had strongly considered putting my old diamond into my new ring as a sidestone too. My new one is a three stone, but I wanted pears for sides and my old diamond is round.
  2. A necklace is what I may do too. I just wish my old diamond was bigger though.
  3. Part of my wedding ring broke, and I lost some diamonds in it. We decided to take the bigger and better route too instead of fixing it.
  4. If so, what did you do with your old ring or rings? Did you just put them away? Or have them made into something else? If so, what?
  5. We did it a couple of years ago, and I'm so glad we did. We listen to the radio a lot now, especially for baseball games. You can get a good weather alert radio for storm info. For special occasions when there is something on we really NEED to see, such as the All-Star game, we check into a local motel for pizza, TV watching, and indoor swimming. Kind of a cheap mini-vacation, lots of fun. Wished we had done it sooner!!!
  6. My just turned 12yo boy loves Mysterious Benedict Society books too! :001_smile: Your 10yo might like the H.I.V.E (Higher Institue of Villainous Education)book series by Mark Walden. I think 2 have been released in the US, and the rest were released in the UK.
  7. I picked D- other. Thin with big books. I would also like to get someone to move them from the lower shelf where they are now, back to the top shelf where they used to be.
  8. My husband always feels it necessary to "show them an easier way" as he is passing through the room! :banghead:
  9. Are you sure you are not just overlooking them? My workbook has them on page 17.
  10. Usually, I just say that it's not for everyone. But I've been known to say, "Well, we must have different priorities."
  11. We've always done a 4 day week because we needed to save one day a week for orchestra and violin lessons. We usually begin in late Aug. and are done around the second week of June. We chose Sonlight as our spine because they offer a 4 day history and readers schedule. My children have always tested extremely well on standardized tests, so I guess it hasn't harmed them that much. We do have a pretty long school day though.
  12. Should my 6th grader still be doing any dictation? This is the first year since second grade that he has not had dictation at least once a week. (In the early grades it was twice a week.) This is usually what he does weekly for LA: Growing with Grammar (4 days) Keys to Good Language (4 days) Write-at-Home (1 assignment) For history, he does one outline and one summary once a week. He also outlines two sermons at church once a week. I thought at 6th grade he was past the dictation stage. Am I wrong? Does he still need to be doing any dictation? If so, how much?
  13. Interesting that you would ask this now, as I too have the same question and would like to see other's responses. I've been reading a book on classical style homeschooling by the Bluedorn's. I found a list online of books, that in their opinion, are poor literary quality and/or not suitable for children. The American Girl Series is on that list. (Although I see some people on Amazon.com have that same opinion of their book. :D)
  14. This is exactly why I much prefer their old LA program. Copywork/dictation was twice a week and the sheet with phonics/grammar instruction was twice a week. The assignment for creative expression was separate, (scheduled once a week) and could be easily skipped if you desired. With the updated version creative expression is a much larger chunk of the program.
  15. We've used both the old and new versions of different levels. If she likes to write, she probably will like this new version. It has dictation scheduled only once a week now (it was twice in the old version) and there is a little more scheduled creative type writing than in the older version. No memorization of rules. When my DD does any type of creative writing the final product seems to show more of my creativity than hers. DS used 5 years of SL LA, but I'm switching DD to something different this year. I want a little more dictation/copywork and we will hit the rules a little harder this year.
  16. But you have to understand, some us were just born and raised in the wrong state. It's not our fault, we just don't have that "good southern breeding". :D Stupid Kansas. :banghead:
  17. I think that too every once in awhile. But then I think back to a couple of converstaions I've had about it. My son played his violin at church and a dear lady in front of us started to cry. She turned around and said that she was sorry to cry, but when she looks at my son it makes her feel so bad. What?? She went on to explain that she volunteers to eat lunch with some children in the local PS. She said that they don't have the opportunities that my son has and she just feels so bad for them. When my niece (who has some speciel needs) was in middle school she told me that she wishes she could be homeschooled like her cousins. She said that it's so hard when kids are so mean. Broke my heart.
  18. Crap is not a bad word. Know how I know that for sure? My MOM told me it wasn't and she's never been wrong about anything- EVER. For some reason people at my church were unaware of this fact.
  19. OOOOOOOOOH SPOOKY My brand new Greek workbook is sitting right next to it on the desk. I will look this up right now. Yes, you are right!
