  1. I just download the trial version of Planbook so I want to hear about other users too! :bigear:
  2. I just made pretty much the same boo-boo. So I am bumping this. :bigear:
  3. This thread came out just as I was going through my copy of the book, scratching my head and considering whether I was going to be able to use it. Thanks!
  4. Many thanks for getting back to me. OK I feel better now. Great, I feel I can get back on the horse now and :auto:
  5. Well. The thing is I KNOW the question in question :) will be boring for all except for those living the same crazy Sunday-Thursday week! :tongue_smilie:
  6. I thought I had it all figured out when I downloaded Homeschool Tracker (basic). As I entered our term dates I realised HST has the week set up to run from Monday to Sunday. Err... the week in the country where we live runs from Sunday through Thursday. It makes a HUGE difference as I never schedule school on Fridays and Saturdays (the local weekend) for many reasons: 1- Well, it IS the weekend. 2- It is the time dh and ds get to play together, and bond. 3- Ds gets the chance to hear/speak/learn English with and from ds who is a native speaker (I'm not). Sorry about the rant. I almost forgot to ask my question: can you change the beginning and end day of a school week in HST, or this something only available in HST+, or not available at all? :toetap05: :bigear:
  7. Same here. Call me naive but... I always thought Jabba made her dress like that because he wanted an attractive slave next to him and as a sign of power -like owning a Ferrari. I didn't realise she was supposed to do anything sexual for Jabba (dancing or who knows what else). Oh, no... I think this thread has just spoiled that SW movie forever... :tongue_smilie:
  8. I just downloaedd Homeschool Tracker Basic and whatever I don't have there I can get from donnayoung.org. I have a 2 ring binder, so I'll keep everything there. Binding means you can't insert pages if you have too, and I like the flexibility of moving things around, if I need to.
  9. We are Plangent Academy. We really don't need a name but I thought coming up with a school name would discourage questions from most people (homeschooling is not an option for locals).
  10. I think Jarman is pretty much like the Sassoon font. Find you if you are really going to use this font before shelling out money for it.
  11. I am using Jolly phonics but I don't like this font. So I plan to ignore it :D Instead I am using a different font and I write the words/phoneme separatedly. We have many books with different fonts so ds doesn't think you have to write something exactly as it appears on a book.
  12. How can a 5yo do cursive though? I don't want to teach him to print only to change to loopy cursive later on. That is exactly why my cursive is rubbish... Everytime I make my mind up I find another thread about handwriting and my head starts spinning yet again  A couple of cursives I've seen that many work for a young child may be a German one I saw (I forget the name) and this one: http://practicalpages.wordpress.com/handwriting-pages/cursive-handwriting/ I guess I like the fact all the letters start at the bottom of the page and there are hardly any loops. I have to say that I learned cursive when young and I still have trouble reading people's handwriting.
  13. I am no expert but not many 5yo have the skill to write loopy cursive. Mine struggles quite a bit and gets very frustrated (and loud!) because he just doesn't have the muscle control yet. However he keeps trying to write in all capitals which is why I am going with italics. It seems easier for an impatient kid to start with. My own loopy handwriting is only neat if I write fairly slowly, but if I need to take fast notes it degenerates into "chicken scratch" (to borrow urpedonmommy's words).
  14. I voted yes. DH wears a tie just about everyday. Sometimes he doesn't but sticks a tie in his leather bag in case there is a surprise meeting or something. Many days I choose an outfit and lay it on the bed for him. He doesn't ask me to do it. I just get a kick out of dressing him up!
  15. I also learned a German style of writing, but only after printing and after a loopy cursive ZB type. As a result I can write pretty decent German style if I write slowly but it becomes a mess if I have to take fast notes. I am going with italics with my young ds but I am thinking of introducing the italic cursive G instead of the print G just because it looks easier to make for a young kid. Don't know if this is allowed. Maybe this would satisfy Bill: having lower case italics and upper case cursive italics which look more traditional? Maybe? ;)
  16. Many people I know including my mother, dh, and a few friends don't have traditional cursive handwriting signatures -the have artistic doodles and they have never been rejected by any bank so far. They all have one of more university degree but choose to have very distinctive signatures. My mother has exquisite Palmer handwriting yet her siggy is a giant A with a sharp angled doodle after it (she is an architect). I think the bank official who rejected someone's siggy for not being in cursive is being difficult, for lack of a better word.
  17. Really? OMG. All this time I thought you had to be online to use it. Well, good thing I asked! :tongue_smilie:
  18. But you have to be "online" to use it, right? I was hoping to avoid this. Although I'll do it is nothing better comes along. I now I'm a wimp but I'm scared of the long learning curve it takes to master (this according to many posts I've read on this forum). Anybody else? :bigear:
  19. I don't know if I'm going to get lynched for asking this with so many threads about planners around but... I am looking for a planner or software I can download to plan lessons, and keep track of what I am doing. I keep going back to Home School Inc and Scholaric but you have to be online and many many times I am nowhere near a wifi zone. Any ideas on free, freeware, or affordable software I can use as a planner? I have donna young's basic xls planner for the upgraded version is not available outside the US (the basic version doesn't allow you to reschedule lessons). All info gratefully received :bigear:
  20. I don't mean to laugh but your description about the poor book being tied to the truck bumper is hilarious.
  21. Well, from the responses it looks like packages are lucky to make it at all! Also not complaining about the 3 weeks. I was expecting between 4 to 6. Bookdepository.co.uk takes far longer to ship a single book. I can tell by the deflated air bag that Christian Books made a good effort to pack the books carefully. As Kiwimum said it may be the word "Christian" bothered someone in customs. They must have had a shock when they ripped the box open only to find harmless math workbooks ;).
  22. I ordered some Singapore math books from Christian Books in the US and I finally received them. It took the box about 3 weeks and for some reason the package was re-routed from Sweden (?). It went through customs where it was obviously opened and roughened up a bit (the box was in tatters and the "bag fulled or air' cushioning the books was deflated). The package then was placed in a grocery shopping bag :001_huh: tied with a strong plastic tie and delivered to my dh's PO box. The nice people from Christian books included a curriculum catalog. I never saw a curriculum catalog before and I was thrilled to bits. For those living overseas. Is it normal to receive a package in such bad shape? The books were in pretty good nick considering the box appeared to have been thrown out of a plane and crashed on a rock. Or is it customs officers having a bad day? :nopity: BTW I'm still amazed the box made it here and thrilled to have my new SM books and amazing catalog :D
