  1. :iagree: I have heard of Ham and he tends to object anyone that opposes YEC, and he calls into question their salvation. Which he is not God and cannot make that huge assumption. From my understanding Enns has a theistic evolution take on creation, which is more modern. As an outsider looking into these conflicting views between these two they both have to be discerned and looked at very carefully. I cannot support one over the other, because one is being a meanie. I do not ascribe to either view. Mostly because I am not a fundamentalist, nor do I agree with Enns interpretation of scripture. So as this is all fascinating to me, I do see divisiveness in all of this. Yet again :iagree:
  2. He said relief implying towards the sexual. It went over my kids head as well which I was relieved but was cringing as that scene was unfolding. ;)
  3. Yes, I am a fellow addict. I cannot enough books. Cannot get a Kindle in fear that I might go over the edge.
  4. I am fluent in both Spanish and English. I find the whole thing ludicrous and shameless. I have to run but just wanted to share a tiny piece of what I feel about all this.
  5. I will start our 4th grader in either WW original edition, or Vocabu-Lit for her grade level as well.
  6. It has a really nice cover. I would love to be able to peek inside of it as well, that could really help us determine whether it would be something we want to continue. I also am wondering if it is parent intensive like the other FLL's. Just some thoughts I have.
  7. Me too, :iagree: I really do not understand what all the controversy is about. I have not taken the time to read through all the threads. I read the Olive Branch statement when I came into the forums. Enns seems like a nice a person to me. So I am going to look into his curriculum.
  8. :bigear: The only one I know of is Spelling Power. So I would be interested to here suggestions as well.
  9. We loved it here too. We rented it at RedBox. It had been recommended to us for a while and I always hesitated to see it. I had only heard of her but never knew what she was like. Since we have a HFA son, he behaves differently than a classic autistic person. I really thought they were going to portray another Rain Man type of autistic, or someone with more classic features, all in all just someone we could not relate to. Wow, what a persepective I got, and how wrong I was. She is so much like my son. My husband was really moved as well.
  10. Thank you for posting this. It is very valuable. I am pregnant right now with our 7th baby. We did have a miscarriage last year though, but we have 5 children and one on the way. I am O+ and so is my husband, we are not related in any way. So this is definitely something to think about and watch for.
  11. Many great links have been included. If many of you just take the time to read through them, many of these questions asked would be answered. Whether they are from the EO or RC perspective. It is all there. Our faith is a faith for the Living God, that includes all of heaven, those that have passed on are more alive because they are in heaven. It is like our extended family when we call on the Communion of Saints. There is much Biblical eveidence of this. Just to touch a bit on this is this article. Yes while we also do go directly to Jesus Christ, we also use the intercession of the Saints to make our prayer much more powerful. Since they are closer to God than we are they are able to bring prayers to God much faster and efficaciously. Here is another great website that can go down the list of questions many of you have as well.
  12. I am sure others can step in as I am only touching the tip here. Looking at religion through out history can be a great beginning point. I know when we start searching it is a prompt from the Holy Spirit. We must look for objective truth rather than the subjective. Maybe when the time is right you will venture out to understand other faiths. I understand how much the vocabulary of a particular religion can be daunting. It was for me initially learning all things Catholic. So you are not alone in feeling that way.
  13. Very well put. I also see you are in Steubenville ;) I saw this article posted on my FB a while back I just had not had the time to read it. I think I will tonight. Thanks.
  14. First off I want to say what a wonderful thread this is. I have been part of many discussions on other forums that bash all forms of Catholicism. The above is what drew me to the Catholic Church, reading the Early Church Fathers was intrumental. The way they described the Eucharist was so beautiful. Along with the countless Saints that had a deep relationship with Jesus. I had been away from the Sacraments for so long, yet I never understood the depth of them until a few years ago. Cardinal John Newman is a wonderful starting point moving away from Protestantism. He started off trying to find fault with the Church.
  15. That is wonderful that you are researching the Church. Yes there are differences in the RC and EO practice the Liturgical year. I am only going to speak of the RC because that is what I know. There are so many resources that you tap into. Before I post them though I did want to make the comment that when one goes into the Roman Catholic Church you have to look past the priest and look at the actual teachings of the Church herself. That will give the backdrop of theology to discern whether the parish or priest really believe and stand by the Magesterium. That has been key for me and my return to the Church. Sadly there are many priests that are weak in their faith and it shows. For them I pray daily, but there are those that truly live out their faith and show it to their parishioners in a real way. The Coming Home Network, and Catholics Come Home are good start. You will also need a Catechism of the Catholic Church to start navigating through the actual teachings. Last but not least New Advent is a great resource when you want to look at the Church historically. Hope that might help some. Many blessings on your journey.
  16. I am a curriculum junkie. I don't know if that is bad thing, I think it is sometimes :D
  17. These two, I am supposed to be off my feet. But I don't want to lay down. So I sit for a while and do what needs to be done when I am tired of sitting. Also I am trying to figure out the kids curriculums for next year as well. Almost done:lol:
  18. I think if one religions depicts anothor in a untruthful way then yes it is a concern to me. I am not going to disagree with another religion for sharing their faith through out their materials. So long as it does not turn into bashing of other faiths.
  19. :iagree: :iagree: I deviated so much this year from what was working. We had some hits and some misses. Now I am trying to implement what had worked in the past and it is working again.
  20. I can very much relate to your thoughts. Yes I agree about 4real forum. Although I really love the women on there. We started off very CM, and since then we have had 2 boys and expecting our third now. I have deviated a lot from the CM method. At my own peril of course, my girls loved it. I was thinking along the lines of independence. This year has been such chaos that Seton has been the only thing that really felt good and it has been done consistently. Anyhow I like both forums for different reasons. One to nurture me when I am having troubles of the serious variety when it comes to homeschooling. This one to look into academic curriculum. Not that 4 real does not offer that, they just have a different view, which I love none the less. I love that saying myself  I have to reconsider how this year went and the materials we used. What worked and what did not. My pregnancy brain along with countless therapies for my 5 year old have taken a hold of my thinking process. I really should just return to something like Mater Amabilis and use Seton the way that Eleanor described. I am a revert to the faith, have been for 6 years now and I am not willing to compromise with anti-Catholic rhetoric. I heard it for so long, and it isone of the things kept me away from the Church for a really long time. I don't want to undermine my family's faith by introducing pamphlets, tracts, and half truths. This is all just sad to me. I won't get into depth on what I think about the whole we are not Christian debate, it is a pathetic attempt to gain converts.
  21. We have tried MM, Horizons, and SM. I was thinking LOF along with Key to Math. Or just staying with Saxon but moving to the second edition 5/6.
  22. Yes, I love that forum I always feel the :grouphug: As far as SOTW2 we do use that as a spine.
  23. Well I cannot speak for all Catholic homeschoolers as to why they prefer Seton for LA. In our case only one of our daughters likes it and the rest did not. I think it is a style that many parents just feel inclined to. We use it because is it rigerous and thorough. It does tend to be self teaching in my opinion, and when you have a lot of children that helps. As far as R&S I think that the younger grades are not geared towards any anti- anything. But I did find this and it is not the first time I have read that.
