  1. Also, the fevers were what had us go get checked in the first place. She had a sore throat, and the fevers were up and down with the highest being 102.7. The only thing he prescribed was rest and acetametaphin. It's actually really common to get the virus that causes this, but most people think their child just has a cold.
  2. My dd had mono a few months ago, and a swollen spleen is a symptom. You just need to make sure she takes it easy while it is so swollen, as it is easier to rupture. My dds case was different since she has a blood disorder that makes her spleen constantly enlarged. But, the doctor said to make sure she didn't ride her bike, jump on the trampoline, etc. until the mono was done.
  3. My sister is thinking about homeschooling my niece next year, but she wants to do it through a charter school. Does anyone know of anything in Butte county, she lives in Paradise. The only oneshe can find is Home Tech, but she doesn't want computer based. I tried searching for her, but I cant figure out which ones are home based vs. regular. Thank you!
  4. I did stars on the ceiling in the kids room, and used the paint from this website. This paint is so good, it has been there for about three years so far and it will glow for hours after we turn off the lights. If we were to recharge it with a black light, it would glow half the night! http://glowinc.com/
  5. A good online store is Fusion Beads. They have all sorts of "inspiration" pieces with instructions. My dd7 loves using seed beads, and the Peyote stitch is really easy to learn.
  6. Ugh! We just had to deal with this in August, and it was very, very time consuming. I highly recommend that everyone read this website www.headlice.org . We didn't use any kind of "treatment" at all, just a good metal nit comb, time, and my fingernails. The key is to go tiny section, by tiny section and get every single nit off the hair. Sucks, but we only had to deal with it for a few days and have never had a problem since. I still check heads weekly as preventative now.
  7. It is completely worth it, if you go in the off season. We were just there in October and never waited longer than 20 minutes per ride. The kids got to ride every singe ride at least once, and Star Tours 5 times in one day, if that will give you an idea. We were there a few years ago the week before the fourth of July, and it was crazy.
  8. I also suggest looking at a Janome. I started with a cheap Brother, and let me tell you, there is nothing more frustrating than learning to sew on a cheap machine that has glitches. I returned it and got my Janome from Sears about 7 years ago, and I love that thing! Also, as someone else already said, get a good pair of scissors and only use them for cutting fabric. Oh, and a self healing mat, at least 24" x 36", a rotary cutter, and a 6" x 24" ruler. You can find some really good coupons for those at Joanns if you have one near.
  9. I would switch to another Pack. You can sit in on a meeting and see how the boys interact, and if it would be a good fit for you. The only thing is, you might have already done some of the badges the new den is doing, or maybe they have covered some badges that you still need. We just had three boys switch over to the Webelos II den this summer, and it was no big deal.
  10. Unfortunately I was blessed with extreme anxiety and overactive sweat glands. If I didn't use deoderant/antipersperant my family would not want me near, LOL. If I know it's going to be a really hot day, or I will be doing something out of the norm where I will be nervous, I have a special routine. I wash and shave really well, use an alcohol based sanitizing gel (tried vinegar, can't stand the smell), make sure they are completely dry, and then a strong antipersperant like secret. Sometimes I will use certain dri for a few nights before if I know I will be doing something to make me anxious. My 10 year old ds has really bad odor if he doesn't shower and scrub his armpits daily. Sometimes if we're in a hurry and he can't shower I will scrub his armpits with a washcloth and then have him use the sanitizing gel. (I don't think he really gets in and scrubs them when he showers...instead he gently rubs the soap over them) It seems to work better than deoderant for the smells.
  11. That looks fabulous! I was wanting to do the same thing this year with my daughter, but haven't started yet. I was really inspired after reading that book!
  12. I haven't tried that, but I will now. Thank you =)
  13. Is anyone else having trouble downloading certain books? I ordered 10, and easily downloaded 7 of them. For some reason the Easy Make and Learn books just WONT download for me. I can get the pdf to open in a new webpage, but then the download stalls at about .5MB and wont go any further. I really don't know what I could be doing wrong as the others were fine. I will email the company, but I feel kind of silly since I used the code and didn't technically pay for them. :001_unsure:
  14. I say either, leaning towards girl. I know a lot of little girls who like that color combination, but not many little boys who would care for that star pattern.
  15. It doesn't take much to get me crying during a movie, but I love The Notebook I am Sam (I love Sean Penn in this...when he tells the foster mom he can't do it by himself, I die every time I watch it) The Lake House and then if you want more of a sad cry, not a sappy cry I like Schindlers List The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (although the book made me cry even more) Sophies Choice The Road (but read the book first...very creepy)
  16. This is my dd. She is always the animal when she plays with her friends, usually a cat, dog or pony. Oh, she was a goldfish the other day too =) I think it's much better than playing teenager like her friend wanted to play last week :tongue_smilie:
  17. I just have to say thank you, thank you, thank you! Our subscription just ended this month for Discovery Streaming and I was contemplating whether or not to renew. This is fantastic!!
  18. I agree that it depends on what she plans on doing once the baby is home. If she is going to nurse, I suggest renting one from her insurance, wic, hospital....where ever she can get a good double pump. She must get a double pump! With my first son, we had latch issues, he was in the nicu for a week, and I was a first time mom with no experience nursing. I ended up pumping with a Pump in Style double pump for a year, with no problems. In fact, I had an abundance of milk from that. With my third son, he was in nicu for 3 weeks and we had major latch problems so I bought another PIS. We got the hang of nursing after he was home for about 2 months, so I should have just continued with the hospital rental. As far as the little bit of milk coming out, she should feel relaxed and not get frustrated. It does take a few days for it to really start flowing, and in my experiences the double pump really worked well for that. Your body thinks you are nursing twins, and you produce more milk. Also, she will spend considerable less time at the pump which is always a bonus.
  19. I don't know if it's normal or not, but ours grew mold as well. When you get more in September, make sure your lid is on good and tight. We started out with about 12 live larvae, and ended up with only 4 in pupae stage because the others climbed out.
  20. This looks like a really fun project for the kids. This might be a silly question, but how are the ends of the pages stuck together? Is it just taped?
  21. I have to second the Sheppard Software website. After playing the states/capitals game twice daily for a week he was around 98% accurate at level 3! We do other puzzles, and we love the Borderline USA game. That website was what worked the best though.
  22. This might not work, but when we recently brought home a new kitten he initially stayed in the bathroom. http://www.weforanimals.com/articles/introducing-cats.htm Try completely separating them for now, even if it means listening to the lonely mews coming from the bathroom. Put the food and water in the bathroom as well, that way the newcomer doesn't have to come out at all. You will probably have to leave them completely separated for a while, until your resident cat is used to the smells and sounds of the newcomer. Just remember to be patient with your timid one, I know how frustrating it is when kitties stop using the box for whatever reason.
  23. I like www.pinchingyourpennies.com/forums/ It's sort of like slick deals, but I find more "childrens" deals at Pinching your Pennies.
  24. I think we've had a jar opened in the fridge for at least a month and it was still good. Usually I get the Kirkland brand and it gets so stiff towards the end that I have to microwave it a bit. If you are in an area with a Trader Joes, I have found their brand to be the best in spreadability (is that a word, lol). It's the same thing, just peanuts and salt, but for some reason it stays nice and soft in the fridge.
