books, sites, newsletters...........I take what I can use and leave the rest. The one thing I have come to realize is that we all have those things we are willing to skimp on and those things that are non-negotiable. For me I will not EVER buy generic mayonaise and I buy premium bread.......but I will buy the cheapest paper towels I can find. A friend of mine will not buy anything without a name label on it, but buys all her clothes from thrift stores. I am sure there are those that will do ALL those things in a book.......but for me there are certain limits I set.....that are different from those someone else makes.

that HFH limits underage workers pretty heavily. My son helps lead an after-school program at a local elementary school........he's a video game junkie too, but this has helped him develop leadership skills as well as parenting and organization skills. they almost always need extra help and young kids look up to teens almost more than adults so you might want to look into that as an option.....

are to go to MIT or CIT so he needs to have a very good "resume'" for college. He is not involved in lots of outside activities, but what he does do he has done for years and has shown passion for those areas. All I've heard is that THAT matters more than quantity........quality over quantity! He has almost 10 years in theatre, 7 years of community service, 7 years of writing comic books The other thing is that not everything has to be organized activities. My son writes comic books and he can show progression over the years by keeping a diary of his work and work being published. There are ways to document extra-curricular activities if they are not in organization form.

safety of decongestants? Alternatives?
Rachel replied to debbiec's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Has used Flonase for years.........but he swears by Mucinex in a pinch. I don't like using meds so I use mint tea and drape my head in a towel over a bowl with it.........opens me up for quite awhile. Also VapoRub is little less invasive...... -
I have had Homeschool Tracker for 5 years now and every year I really try to like it and use..........I take the time to set it all up and even had a friend come help me make it user friendly as can be. But in the end, I always end up back in a lesson plan book. I am very technology savvy and use it for almost all my other planning (PDA for my calendar, etc...) but for lesson plans I can't seem to make it work. We just make too many changes and its too cumbersome to keep it up........ Know what your preference is......really think about it. If you have to force yourself to use a computer program.........you won't use it, trust me.

Furious w/mother wanting me to pay for shirt
Rachel replied to Rachel's topic in General Education Discussion Board
my daughter asked for the shirt so she could try to clean it......she made the offer without being asked. Well, lots of different reactions here......for me I will try the hairspray and then that's it. If she continues to make a big deal out of it then I'll offer the dry cleaning and then I'm done. I thought about the analogy of the baseball through the window and that we pay for accidents.I do agree, but a baseball through a window ruins the window for good, you can't use it....it is truly unusable. This shirt has less marks on it than 3/4 of my kids clothes and is not only wearable but is in perfectly usable condition minus a microscopic 1/8 inch blue mark. I tried to do the right thing by offering to pay right off the bat and without looking at the shirt. My error was assuming that a parent would not make a big deal unless the shirt was ruined.........my bad. The offer to pay was not passed onto the parent so she doesn't know I offered to pay....which is good since I no longer think it is a valid complaint. Thank you for everyone giving thought to this and coming up with some good ideas to remove the stain.........I'll let you know if it comes out. -
Do you have a skin care program you follow?
Rachel replied to Tina's topic in General Education Discussion Board
extremely dry skin I use Mary Kay TimeWise exfoliant scrub 2-3 times per week Daily I use either Rachel Perry's Bee Pollen Moisturizing Cream w/SPF 15 or Oil of Olay's Nightime Total Effects I use a heavy/nighttime moisturizer all the time for my dry skin I use Clinique's makeup remover and use the toner periodically, but not regularly I recently started using Costco's Kirkland brand of Age-Defying Wrinkle Defense Serum........this stuff is awesome.....you just brush it over your face after moisturizing and it fills in a lot of the lines and just makes your face feel amazing.........smooth as silk....... I really recommend professional facials at least quarterly if you can swing it......it really helps clear your skin and for me it reminds me to take good care of my skin. -
Poll: Tell me about your handbag . . .
Rachel replied to BamaTanya's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I have probably 30 various bags. Most days I use my Vera Wang black over the shoulder bag (I get lots of compliments on that bag) but I have purple to red to green...... I do use neutrals most of the time, but it must match my shoes......no way can I walk out the door with a brown bag and black shoes. Neutral during the summer is cream or white, fall is brown, winter is black and spring is cream usually. My favorite brands are Vera Wang, Fossil, Coach You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to purses...... -
if I led you astray..........there was nothing romantic about the sex when you are 9 months pregnant and trying to get things started (contraction speaking) In fact we were hysterical with laughter the first time........it really was all about procreation, not entertainment...... You'll know when you get that desperate :)

What is the best site to study geneology? (m)
Rachel replied to Mom2Two's topic in General Education Discussion Board
that the Mormon site is one of the best..........I got almost all my information on 2 sides of our family just from that site alone......they put a lot of effort into their geneology records. -
Furious w/mother wanting me to pay for shirt
Rachel replied to Rachel's topic in General Education Discussion Board
that is precisely what I was thinking...........who in there right mind sends a kid to school in a $50 shirt??? Even the principal said as much...... Well I'm not going to waste anymore time or energy on it, just give it back with a note saying I tried its up to her if she wants to make it a bigger deal than that. -
Can we talk about SHOES???
Rachel replied to Jennifer in MI's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I usually choose strappy heels. I have some cute ones with beeds that come up the top of the foot and then bead around my ankle and I get LOTS of compliments on them. As for where to buy.......that is tough with your size, my mom is a size 10.5 and she has a heck of a time finding shoes. -
Furious w/mother wanting me to pay for shirt
Rachel replied to Rachel's topic in General Education Discussion Board
how about "some kid's parents?".............LOL Thanks for the advice all! -
Okay my daughter was in a class, stretched and reached back and accidentally touched a boy's shirt with a permanent marker. When I picked up my daughter the teacher told me the mother came in and was furious that my daughter "scribbled" on her son's shirt and that she wants me to pay $50 for the shirt (its a NBA jersey). So without seeing the shirt I offered to pay for it..........one, thinking it was on purpose and two, that the shirt was ruined. So yesterday my daughter brings the shirt home to me and I'm telling you it took me almost 5 minutes to find the mark on the shirt......it is about 1/8 of an inch long and a very light blue........you would literally have to be standing 2 inches away to see it. So now I'm thinking I'm not paying for this...... The teacher and the principal both said the mother and son completely have overreacted and the teacher says she won't LET me pay for the shirt because its so ridiculous. So now I have this shirt at my house.........I tried spray & wash, bleach, goo gone...........what else can I try to get this out??? I've heard denatured alcohol and hair spray........what do you think? Would you pay for this shirt???? WIsh I could post a pic but I'm at work....
