  1. Hello, Happy Sunday! We left 6:22am Saturday morning, made lots of quick stops and one longer stop for lunch and made it to our rental house around 4pm. My knee was very sore by the end but otherwise it wasn't too bad. Couldn't cruise control much due to traffic. I drove the whole way since we took two cars and dh was driving our other car. My mother wouldn't be comfortable driving my car. The house has gorgeous views and we've been watching seals out in the water this morning, but it is a very old house. Lamps with cloth covered wires instead of rubber old. Antique type cabinets. Which is quaint and cute, but the pots and pans here matched and dh was frustrated making breakfast this morning. Plus the lighting is dim at night. But the wifi works so the kids are happy. We're actually staying in Hancock so about 30 minutes from Bar Harbor. We can actually see Bar Harbor over the water but the drive is longer. We're going to walk over to a local beach later this afternoon and then have dinner out locally. We want to give the kids a day to adapt to being awake during the day before we make them do long hikes. Plus the rest of us could use a day to relax.
  2. 80/100. Missed the chaplain one and another I answered too quickly.
  3. Shame at being nude is taught not innate. Babies are born naked. Most of us had toddlers that liked to run around naked. Were they being shameful? Society expects us to be clothed when out in public and clothing is desirable for all the reasons SHP listed, but many of us were taught to feel shame about our bodies and I believe that whole attitude is very harmful.
  4. How about this one? I think September is going to be exhausting after this vacation. ETA: Wow, the music doesn't even start until almost 2 minutes into the video. A September sleepy booya.
  5. I didn't get all my stuff done at work yesterday. It's still kind of a mess and I have one day after we get back before classes start. Oh well.
  6. Morning, Happy Friday! We leave at 6am tomorrow morning for the drive to Maine! So excited. Today I need to shave (I think, not sure I'll bother), maybe do my toe nails since I'll be wearing sandals. Take my car to get gas. Help the kids pack. Go through what I packed and cut down. We will have a washer/dryer and plan to do laundry at least once so I really don't need to pack as much as I did.
  7. But it's not Late September. or 1963. Aaannnndd I just realized that's Late December back in 63 and is Frankie Vallli.
  8. I mainly nursed in NJ, NY, CT, PA and I think MD. Of course, this was a lot of years ago but I never received any dirty looks, comments or anything negative. As I said before, I'm pretty sure NJ at least had a law even back then that businesses weren't allowed to ask people to stop breastfeeding or ask them to move to a different place.
  9. I've been both the child in a blended family with a bad relationship with non custodial parent, partially due to step-parent issues that parent wasn't willing to maintain a relationship around, and the parent in a blended family situation. I have never been a step-parent though. Parent should be doing whatever they can to maintain a relationship with the daughter. If that means going to a birthday lunch alone, that is what they should do. Worrying about setting a precedent is going to lead to the daughter not wanting a relationship at all, and there may be no recovering from that. I had very limited relationship with my father from 16 to 24, then no relationship at all until I was in my mid-30's and his wife died. I reached out then and we had an okay but not close relationship for a while. Now we are back to no relationship at all.
  10. Morning, Happy Thursday. Today is another day of errands. Dropping off a bunch of donations in a donation bin, running to the AFSA for a few things that can't wait until we get back, cleaning up my upstairs storage at least a little bit (I think I'm going to give myself an hour to do whatever I can get done), finish setting up my classroom and lobby, and testing computers. Tomorrow I"m staying home, helping the kids pack for our trip, cleaning house a little bit.
  11. I never had a problem when breastfeeding in public, but I didn't have really big breasts even then so it wasn't hard to be somewhat discrete. I never covered but used to wear button front shirts over tanks and I would unbutton from the bottom and pull down the tank from the top. I nursed my son walking around a furniture store once and even dh didn't realize I was nursing. It's not at all unusual to see women breastfeeding around here and they don't seem to get bothered by anyone. I'm pretty sure there are laws around here where businesses at least can't tell breastfeeding moms to move or cover up.
  12. I don't pay much attention so I'm not sure about women my age. I do mostly see women of a variety of ages who are graying naturally, don't wear makeup, and seem to be dressing for comfort so a lack of bra wouldn't surprise me at all. I think it's pretty common in the younger moms I see regularly. Dd doesn't ever get pressure about not wearing a bra or not shaving. In her peer group, it is not an unusual thing at all. In the tween to 20-ish girls I see frequently, shaving seems to be more the exception than the norm.
  13. I last shaved sometime around June or July of 2022. Maybe. I'm not sure I ever shaved last summer. I think I might have because I think I wore shorts to work. I didn't work as much this summer and didn't bother. My older daughter definitely shaves all the time all year round, but younger daughter never has shaved anything. I don't think it's a protest against patriarchy or anything. I think she just doesn't care, I didn't raise her to think it was a necessary thing, and she hasn't run into any peer pressure about it. My older daughter also always wears a bra. ALWAYS. I think it's nuts. Younger daughter is my mini-me. Both daughters wear larger sizes than I do (in bras).
  14. I only wear my half-camis when I leave the house to go to work. At home, shopping, random activities I usually have nothing on under shirts. Even the half-camis come off the second I'm home (or in the car on the way home sometimes).
  15. I hardly ever wear what would be considered a real bra. I'm overweight but none of that weight went to my chest so I'm somewhere around a 42A/B with just a slight bit of sag at 54 years old and 7 years of breastfeeding. Most days I wear cropped camisole tops with black screen printed tshirts and that is enough support/coverage/rubbing avoidance that I'm comfortable. If I'm dressing up nice and want to look like I have more I'll wear a tshirt style bra - soft cups, no wires, but an elastic strap around the bottom which gives a slight bit of lift.
  16. Well, I usually feel like I'm totally slacking off or just doing my usual compared to you and some of the others. So I had to share my unusual day of running every which way.
  17. Did a bunch of work at the storage unit. I think if I'm brutal about it I could probably get rid of it in a couple months. Selling or giving away or throwing out a bunch of stuff and giving up on my yoga/exercise area in the upstairs storage (that I've honestly not used enough to be worth it, I usually yoga/exercise in my classroom and the new arrangement makes that easier) should make it possible. Then I got a text that someone tried to go on my website but it was down. So I checked on my phone and it didn't come up there (but I was inside a big concrete building), so I finished up quickly and went to go home to check it on my computer and got a text that it may have been a problem on their end since it was back up. So I went to work, dropped off stuff I had loaded from storage (computers mostly, I have to check all my computers to make sure I have enough for class), then sent a note to dh asking if I could bring a bunch of cardboard to the dumpsters at his work. That was okay so I ran home for some that was there, put it with what I pulled out of storage and ran to dh's work. Threw that in the dumpster and he asked me to go to the bank. And my car needed an oil change before we drive to Maine Saturday. Planned to do that Thursday but instead ran by Jiffy Lube after the bank and got it done today. Then since I was half-way there, I ran to Joanne's to buy green felt that matched the green felt I already had but needed a bigger piece of for a green screen/Chroma-Key workshop I running. Then home to shower and relax, but then got a call that an electrician was stopping by in 15 minutes to check on my sockets that weren't working so I had to run out to work again. It was a simple(ish) problem but the guy didn't have the two parts he needed to do the full fix so he's going to have to come back again. So I had to give a code to my door to the guy who is coordinating stuff for the new landlord in case they can't come back by Saturday. Then home, dinner, putting together rough rosters for my teachers since we are having a lunch tomorrow to go over things for the new year. Still need to finish setting up my classroom, test the computers I have and see if I need to buy more, decide on some arrangements for the lobby, clean my upstairs storage area so things can be found. We come back from Maine on Saturday and classes start that Monday so I need to have things done before we go.
  18. I remembered Math. I was at work rearranging so I would have remembered when the kids showed up anyway. I think I found a really workable set-up for my classroom this year. It will only work because my classes are small (8/9 kids max) but I think it will be more functional than what I tried last year. We shall see. Storage unit clean out today. That should be fun!
  19. I had one child with my first husband. When dh and I were talking about getting married, we talked about having kids. He didn't have any children at that time but wanted them. I told him I was willing to have more kids but I wanted at least two (so not another "only", she's 11 years older than my next) and to be done by the time I was 40 (I was 35 when we got married). We had ds and he was the worst sleeping baby ever. Dh actually asked why anyone would ever do that twice, LOL. As he got older, he slept better and things got easier (mostly, he's ASD, SPD, and gifted so easy is relative) and we decided to go ahead for another. Dd was born a week before my 38th birthday and was a scheduled c-section so I had my tubes tied at the same time. I've never felt like I wanted more.
  20. Morning, Happy Monday. I slept in quite a bit today. And yesterday. And Saturday. I was wiped out after two weeks of camp and getting up early. I'm not used to it anymore. And it's an hour earlier than I have to get up during the school year. Today I'm going to work and moving things around. Arranging my classroom, setting a small (very small) office area up in our lobby to hold a computer and printer. That's the new plan rather than trying to get wifi upstairs to our storage room. There's a concrete floor in between. Our signal from downstairs doesn't make it at all so we'd have to run a wire somehow. Tomorrow I redo my storage unit (yes, again) to pull out all the computers we have and check which ones will work for the mini office and my class (I'm teaching Powerpoint first session) and see if I need to get additional ones. Plus I'm getting rid of the accumulated recyclables, and possibly a pre-k activity table that we don't have the space for and never use. Plus just get organized so I can find things. Then Wednesday it's back to work to clean up the upstairs storage area, plus I have a start of the year teacher's lunch. I also need to remember I have Math workshop today. I may let dd stay home since she just finished a chapter and this is the last math class until we start up for real September 11th. No sense in starting a new topic now.
  21. I remember these and similar ones that were flatter. I do remember Captain Caveman! Great show, LOL. Spirograph is still available. I have a couple of them at my classroom. I remember those. And kerbangers, that were outlawed because they could be turned into a weapon. Shrinky dinks are still available.
  22. Do you have a software license downloaded or are you using 365? If it's 365, you may have to sign in again to use it.
  23. Morning, Happy Saturday. Camps are done for the summer. Now I have two weeks, one of which we will be in Maine, before classes start. And, of course, a huge to-do list to get done in the next week. Today is laundry and then packing. I'm packing the clothes I want to bring to Maine right from being washed since that seems like it will be easier. Since I can wear any old thing this week, it should work out okay.
  24. I didn't know there was a horizontally folding phone. I just googled and they look super awkward to hold. dh and ds have the google galaxy flip phone. They seem to like it okay. Ds likes that it fits in his pocket better. I was worried the hinge would be a weak point but so far they seem just as sturdy as our other phones.
