  1. Called the Dr today about the results. She said everything was super. The only thing that was "off" was her white blood cell count. she said it was a little bit low, but that could be from an error or from her just getting over something. (She did have a bad cold, sore throat, etc. but was just about all the way over it at time of blood work.) She said iron, sugar, thyroid, kidneys, her B levels, all that was great. I don't have the numbers, or other details, as we go in Monday to get the actual results, and the new orders for blood work. But I thought I would post prior to the appointment to see if anyone has any other ideas that it could possibly be, so I can ask when we go in. Thank-you so much!
  2. I know- I will also be posting this in the "Wanted" section as well, but I thought, mayyyybe, just mayyybe I would have more luck posting on both~ We are a homeschooling family of 5 looking to move to Tennessee in the near furture. If you have, or know anyone who has a house with at least 5 acres for sale we would be happy if you could send a link or something to us for more details. Here is what we're looking for: A house (no mobile homes) with at least 5 acres (I'm hoping for more, but we will see...), 3 bedrooms min., preferably 4 or more as we are interested in fostering. 2 full baths, min.. COUNTRY! Trees, for sure! Location: Near/within driving distance of Morristown, or Greeneville, TN. Price: $150,000 Thank-you so much!
  3. My main goal (short term of course) is to do history as SWB suggests. We did start last week with outlining. They have done three years of IEW, so I am not worried about jumping in too deep with that. My idea was/is (?) to start with the lower grades format of WTM history/geo and work it through for this next semester then move them up to the grammar stage until they are at the level they are suppose to be at. Has anyone else started in the middle and played catch-up like that before? Did it work? Thank you
  4. Okay, so I've been really *wanting* to switch over to the WTM way, the problem is, I can't seem to switch! I've read the books, I've planned, but I just can't seem to actually DO it! After homeschooling for 8 years now, I am finding it really hard! Our regular way of doing things isn't a set in stone sorta thing. It's just different books I've chosen based on the child and what I want the to learn, of course. Currently- my youngest two, both boys, grades 6th and 7th, are using the following curriculum: Write Upon My heart (Character / Bible) Saxon Math 7/6 Growing with Grammar Soaring with Spelling Vocabulary Vine (5 roots a week for memory work) Megawords Building Thinking Skills Spanish Aristotle Leads the Way (science) Science Detective History.... nothing right now... Typing Online geo quizzes from sheppardsoftware.com ......and lots of reading.......... I would be happy if I could just do the WTM way for geo/history. So what IS my problem???? Does/did anyone else have this prob?
  5. okay, so I guess it will be a play it by ear kind of thing. I don't want to run into troubles, but I don't want him to have to re-earn a credit either! :glare: thank you sooo much!
  6. Tomorrow I will call the dr and schedule another check up. In the mean time, I've just purchased her some liquid B-vitamin. For excersise- All three of my kids do a 5 minute brisk walk, then run 7 houses, walk one, and repeat for 25 minutes. So a total of 30 minutes in all. We are trying to build up the legnth. They started walking two houses, running two, and from there we just "added a house per week." :) It stems from the president's challenge. She also does 30 sit ups and 30 pushups, 5 days a week, and for some fun they do boffering. I really appreciate all of your comments! Things I would have over looked.
  7. Yes, we eat everything but the meats. We get protein soy products as well. They are actually pretty high in protein.
  8. See, I had trouble with iron levels- or so I thought, but recently I did start taking the liquid B. It has helped a lot. I told her we need to get her some, but just haven't gotten to the store yet. Would that have to do with the hunger as well? Her monthly is every other month. She started about a year ago. They aren't severe, but she does have cramps, of course.
  9. So, wait until he is finish with high school to evaluate if it should be on it or not?
  10. She has been like this for months now. We limit their sugar intake and although we are vegetarians, we do get plenty of protien. Is there a test that I can have done?
  11. It is a full course. It has the grammar, reading, writing, all of it. My daughter is in 9th grade and doing the same one.
  12. My next question is whether or not it is possible to have my son earn a high school credit in 7th grade. He is doing spanish and I'd really like to give him the HS credit. How do I go about it, or can I even do that?
  13. I thought I'd ask all you fellow parents of teens if anyone can help me out on this one- My DD, 14 is "always tired and hungry" (her words), and I just do not know why. She gets plenty of sleep- 10 hours usually, and of course she gets plenty of food. Sometimes she does rush while eating. I ask her if she is full and she says "Not really, but I'm never full." Is this a growing thing or what? I tell her not to worry about getting done by a certain time (even though she's always done hours before our "end of day goal), just to eat until she is FULL. Even when she does do this, she is hungry shortly afterwards. Any ideas? :bigear:
  14. My 11 yo ds just completed lesson 86 Friday in Saxon 7/6. When he finishes he will go into either 8/7 or algebra 1/2. He says he doesn't like math but he is very good at it, noticing patterns and such right away.
  15. What does LL mean? I looked in on the sticky, but notta.
  16. WE had the DIVE, and the Saxon Teacher, NOW we have Art Reed. Three Times is a charm! All my kids love watching him. One will be walking by as the other child is watching their lesson for the day, and they end up watching it as well. You can call him and talk to him yourself. Very friendly, very truthful. My kids didn't care for the Saxon Teacher, as they didn't really teach anything, they just worked the problems out on the board. DIVE was okay, but very... "poorly" completed, with a lot of mistakes. It bugged my kids a lot. HTH
  17. You should buy the Using John Saxon's Math" by Art Reed. Even browsing his site is a great learning tool for the method. You can call or email him as well. He is very helpful and WILL get back to you very quickly. http://www.usingsaxon.com/index.php HTH,
  18. Oh I am talking about childrens' books, although I realize young adult books have the same (plus more) problems!
  19. What is up with SO MANY childrens' books having cursing?? I am at my limit with buying books and having to toss them due to the deplorable language they contain. I would feel guilty if I were to see them, and you can't take a book back to the book store after it's been read through about a quarter of the way! Am I the ONLY one that feels this way? Isn't there a site that tells whether or not certain books have cursing, or name calling? How are we suppose to raise our kids properly when there is so much JUNK out there? It is impossible to preread every book they want to read. I just cannot do it!
