  1. Well, we just spend 1 entire year finishing up Saxon math 8/7.......... Somethings just take time. :tongue_smilie:I k now..... You did NOT want to hear that! Well, I just ordered her biology, so I'll probably be joining in the "fun" soon!
  2. Wow! You all are really great! My notes are stacking up! The only complaint I have with this forum, is that there's SO much GREAT info, I'm on here instead of working! <<< Help!! :D Really, I love all these ideas!
  3. Maybe it would help to list the curriculum we're using? Saxon Algebra 1 w/ Saxon Teacher CDs -- She will complete the course for credit. Apologia's Biology with labs & companion Cd -- She will complete the course for credit. Total Health text & workbook -- She wil complete course for credit. The Fallacy Detective -- She will complete it, but I don't think there is credit. IEW's Elegant Essays or something from IEW. I think finishing a course would fall under the elective- Writing Structure and Style  She would finish the book, but I am also wondering if I could add in their Life Science Based Writing. I just would trade off between the two books. (THOUGHTS??) Now-- Here the a tricky part- I have purchased Trisms Expansion of Civilizations... and although I know she will NOT be doing everything, here is what is says: Full Credits: World or Classical and Medieval History Literature & Composition OR English Survey of Science History OR General Science World or Classical and Medieval Geography Electives: Economics Multi-cultural studies Introduction to Rhetoric Intro to Philosophy Humanities Research Writing (1/2 credit) Cartography (1/2 credit) Special Interest topic Writing Structure & Style (if IEW is included with Literature assignments) She WILL be going to college. She wants to be a vet or a kindergarten teacher. ~~~ so ~~~~ How do I give credit for that stuff?
  4. Tee-hee-hee! Thanks, I needed to hear that.
  5. These are all super ideas! I am making notes of all! I plan to discuss it with the kids soon! After I posted this question, by two boys rode their nokes around the block, twice. They came back exhausted and said they felt like sleeping! Just gave me more motive to work something in to the schedule!!!
  6. Do I have to literally keep track of the daily minutes DD spends in each subject? If not, how is itt done? :)
  7. Thank you Julie! This is a tremendous help! Sounds VERY interesting!
  8. Hmm... See, I never heard of the DVDs. I was looking at the Art Reed set to go with the Saxon Algebra. It covers all topics and is only $50. (Listen to me- "only $50" can you tell I've hit the HIGH school HIGH dollar stage???!) I'll check into this more though.
  9. Yep- Thrift stores are great for finding school books and reading books. They may be the later edition- but I'm sure it will work! You could look into that book Homeschooling on a shoelace... or something like that from your library. Take a pen- if you can't check out books. I've done that before.
  10. Here are some links you may find useful... http://www.k12.com/courses/high-school-courses/downloadable-high-school-course-information/ http://www.amblesideonline.org/curriculum.shtml#years http://www.cps.edu/Programs/Pathways_to_success/Pages/Pathwaystosuccess.aspx Hope this helps.
  11. I just thought about this- I found a book at a garage sale today (25 cents-awesome!) It's called "Keep 'Em Talking" Real-Life Dilemmas that Teach, by Mike Yaconell. Says it's the perfect youth group resource. You could check into it. It might be a real interesting thing to have discussions of real-world predicaments. Maybe you could be some what of the discussion starter?? Then let the kids chat it up and discuss life's "stuff". You could also have these discussions at different places.
  12. I am trying to build a firm foundation (aren't we all?) for my kiddos. However, I am not helpful at all in that department! :D There's no hiding it from them any longer- the cat's out of the bag! ;) Soooooooo............. I am curious if any of you have a book / CD / anything that was/is just a SUPERB help in this area for you or/and your child? Please- Feel free to list a million- I WILL check them out! Currently- I guess this would help- DD14 is going to start Saxon Algebra 1 with the Saxon Teacher CDs and in January DS12 and DS11 will start Saxon 1/2 with the Saxon Teacher CDs as well. I am tossing around the thought of getting the "Key to Algebra" series. I DID order TT Algebra 1, but after talking w/ DD14, I think she would rather stick w/ the same curiculum. Okay- I'm done blabbing- I'm ready to listen! :bigear:
  13. This year my ds 12 and ds 11 are very close. Both are in Saxon 7/6. They will both finish before Christmas break (Lord willing). I plan to start Saxon 1/2 with both of them In January and take it slow. I'm about to post a question about Algebra supplements, so you may want to read it. :) Everyone is sooo helpful on here!
  14. Whew! I am SOOO glad to hear it is not an alien impersonating my kids at different times! Last time he did this I thought I was going to go nuts! He decided that when doing long division, such as 10 divided by 0.4, it did not matter where he wanted to put the decimal. After explaining it a bazillion times, I had DH explain it.... then ds12.... then dd14..... then the cat??? No, that's not right, but I sure did think about it!! It wasn't until the next day when I told him that I only owed him $9.... verses $90 (long story)......... Because I decided to move the decimal where IIIIIII wanted it! :D At least I got the point across. DH just thinks he's being stubborn.. I kinda think it's a mixture of the hormones and stubborness! :tongue_smilie:
  15. Does anyone else ever get the impression that your child's brain has been turned off???? Today ds11 - doing Saxon 7/6 couldn't figure out how to round to the nearest cent. Yep- that's what I said. Couldn't round. So- am I the only one whose kids' brains sometimes take the day (or two) off??
