Christmas?! I'm such a slacker!
Before coming here I made my weekend to do list. I was patting myself on the back for remembering to get pumpkins this weekend. I felt so ahead of schedule.
:)
I have pumpkins because dh's friend got 2 from his workplace. He gave them to me to decorate with in exchange for some pie when I make pie.

"No! No bomb making (vinegar & baking soda pop bottle for science) until we get home from the library." It took about 2 seconds before I realized how that sounded and that before homeschooling it would have never been said in my house.. :w00t:
  . Yep said that!!! Ds was all into science and seeing how loud of a pop he could make.
By the way have y'all taken the little snap pop things (throw on ground and they pop) dumped several into a tissue. Brought tissue up and twisted together with a little tape holding the twist. (giant snap pop) Then threw it down to see how loud a pop it would make. The more snap pops the louder the pop.

So a white pumpkin can be used like an orange one in baking?

Not to hijack this thread but anyone know of any free sites for genealogy searches? I have been trying to find stuff but at the moment I can't afford ancestry.com

Unless it is going to hurt someone I pretty much ignore it. Pick my battles thing.
I have a friend whose children have their own style. I love that they are comfortable in their own skin. I never was as a teen and spent so much time worrying what others thought. (still do for the most part)

Question about popcorn. We have one of those popcorn machines and most of the time my popcorn comes out chewy. What am I doing wrong?

Ds will eat it for a couple days if I store it in an airtight container.

I'm not ready for winter or Christmas

Ugh...Haven't heard form Rachel in a long time. Just got a call from her..... on my cell!! Normally she called the home phone but not this morning.
My cell rang and I almost didn't answer since I didn't know the number. But it was a local cell number and I thought it might be one of the new ladies in our hs group so I answered. UGH. I hung up as soon as I heard Rachel from Card
UGH

What I use to do (my kids have outgrown all the ones they use to get hand me downs from). I had smaller boxes and each box was labeled with the size and season
8-10 fall winter shirts
8-10 fall winter pants
8-10 spring summer shorts
8-10 spring summer shirts
etc.
Some sizes/seasons I had several boxes, some I had 1 (pants and shirts combined). Granted bigger sizes & bulky items took more room = more boxes. The system worked for me. When it came time to get the next size box down it was easy to find. And especially if they just went up a size in shirts not pants I didn't have to deal with digging through pants to find shirts.
When oldest outgrew something I could easily put it in the correct box for the next kid.
It took a couple days to get everything organized and set up but so worth it when it was done. I labeled the boxes with the size and seasons then lined them up next to me. Then started sorting all the hand me down clothes I had in all the various boxes.

Haven't done any purchasing lately as money has been super tight. I have a few Christmas ideas in my wish list.
Kiddos have been using the prime to watch free movies and I have downloaded free kindle books. Cheap entertainment.
Like someone else posted, I like shopping in my pj's.

New set -- dumped in Ziploc bag or box until built. Once built it can be displayed or taken apart and dumped in the big box of logos. We have big clear storage box that all the logos are dumped in. All building instructions are in a binder (with pocket folders) on the shelf.

I don't feel like playing along (hurt my back) but I really need to.
I was writing out my list a little bit ago and it got overwhelming at the stuff I need to do. The condensed version is:
laundry
school
picking up all over house
sweeping
mopping
vacuum
clean bathroom
supper
balance checkbook

Dc -- store bought cake they pick out, grandparents come over for gifts, cake and ice cream. Birthday meal at place of child's choosing. Sometimes on the actual birthday but mostly on the weekend before or after.
Dh & myself -- dinner out at place of our choosing, Usually the weekend before or after. Maybe a card or a bag of favorite candy on actual birthday.
Dh's family does a birthday dinner for all the birthday people in the month. So if there are 3 birthdays in October, there will be 1 dinner and varying number of cakes. Usually just one cake but sometimes it is littles birthday and so 2 small cakes are gotten so they feel special.

Do they go to a church that has a "memory tree". Where you buy a leaf in memory of that person and the money helps the church. Some libraries do this also.

Beautiful day. Hope to spend a lot of time on my porch.
I need to do a lot of inside cleaning but the day is just so nice.
Maybe I will:
do laundry
straighten the living room
clean the kitchen
do a little school planning
Those will be my big goals of the day.

Wow, the hillbilly housewife site looks nothing like the way I remember it. I remember meal plans based on the USDA cost guidelines. Was that a different site?
I think she changed the site a few years ago.

The insidious nature of clutter guilt

I am a packrat trying to reform. I don't want to be one any longer! I think a lot of it is guilt.
When we cleaned out my grandmothers house I brought home a lot of stuff. Some for sentimental reasons some to be used (Pyrex dishes, silverware, furniture etc. Stuff I needed)
My mom tells me often when I mention getting rid of something of my grandmothers "you can't hold on to everything". I keep trying to remember that.
My grandmother was one that hid money & stuff everywhere. I never found any but my aunt found quiet a bit of money in various items.
