Sil always hosts the Thanksgiving meal (and all other meals). They have a small house, the meal is served buffet style set up on the kitchen counters. Some eat in the dining room, some eat in the living room on TV trays. Most of the time disposable dinnerware is used.
It is a laid back affair. Sil doesn't stress if her house is a mess, she doesn't stress if there is a change in the menu (she usually calls to ask you to bring something, dh has forgotten to add something to my list she asked me to bring but she doesn't freak).
After we eat the football game is on TV and people sit around talking (about random crazy stuff)
If I hosted I would be stressed. I guess I am not as laid back as SIL

Do you have a blank cd or DVD case? Stick it in there and wrap it. Not really cute or creative but gives them a present to open.

Someone once told me my kids like weird gifts. (foot lockers, backpacks, foldable shovels, flint sticks). This is what they asked for so this is what I got them.
If they are interested in something then I get gifts to go along with that interest. Most of the time they point out what they like\want.
Other gifts at that age have been
metal dector ...just prepare to have your yard dug up
camera -- simple point and shot, not expensive one
survival bags
Nerf guns
air soft guns or accessories
workout stuff - weights, bands, mats, etc.
DVDs

I've been thinking about Battleship for my 6 year old but I'm not sure he's quite ready for it.

Yadier Molina is an awesome person as well as an awesome player. I've seen and heard only good things about him. The world needs more people like him. :D
Yes! Yes! & Yes!

Maybe smaller amounts of several so they get a variety and see if they like them. I gave my mom some taco seasoning mix and used these little tiny canning jars.

Deviled eggs

Orange salad or as we call it orange crap - cottage cheese, cool whip, orange jello powder, mandarin oranges

Sweet potato casserole with pecans on top

My mom does water aerobics or walks and does some simple workouts in the pool. She says it doesn't hurt her like regular walking\working out. She has lost some weight and toned some.

Get the biggest turkey possible or 2 medium. Split leftovers. I think even big turkeys turn out good if cooked right.

Rocks
Sorry on a Charlie Brown kick
Usually aren't home but I will have some candy on hand. Something DSS request in case we don't give it out. Did pick up my little nephews each one of those cups of crackers.

For a long time the oldest wanted to be a garbage man. You know ride on the back of the garbage truck. He would ride on the end/side of the grocery cart telling me "I'm gonna be a garbage man and hang on like this"
The youngest wanted to be a "digger". Dig holes with machines.

No way would I pay that much for a haunted house. But then again I wouldn't pay to go period. I don't like them. Add me to the chicken list.
I went to a couple when I was a teen but only went along pretty much because of peer pressure (pretty sure guy friend nearly carried me though the last one). Dh use to love them but by the time we had gotten together I was well past wanting to "fit in" and subjecting myself to nightmares for a month. I told him that was a trip for him and his buddies.
We have a local attraction that has long lines every night. I don't know what he charges but I do know the workers are volunteers and the guy that runs it donates the money to the local charities/food banks.

Coca Cola, cheerios, miracle whip, feminine products.
Dh use to say apple jacks. What he doesn't know is he has been eating the Save A Lot brand for years(with a few boxes of the real stuff thrown in when it was on sale. I buy it, fill the cereal keeper and toss the box. He has never made a comment. I did buy some other off brand a couple times and he said "this isn't apple jacks". But SAL brand he hasn't noticed.
There are a few other things I prefer but $$ doesn't always allow so I have to get the store brand. I have just figured out which store brands are the closest.

Y'all are making me feel very ashamed. We eat lots of the foods mentioned. In fact we just finished a lunch of the cheapo frozen pizzas and fries. Hey I did at least cook the pizzas and bake the fries instead of deep frying
I guess the worst dinner we have had is candy and soda. Yep that was all they ate.

Turn them under like you are going to hem. Iron them. If scared they will come down, put a little tape or staple them.
-
Heather glad y'all are safe.
We have had some bad wind and rain today and are under a tornado watch until some time tonight.

If I roast them myself, I eat the whole seed. If I purchase them, I get them already shelled.

Anyone care to share what they will be getting their kids for Christmas this year-- I need some inspiration??

We love tervis here. Everyone has one, well actually 2 small ones and 1 big one each. They were Christmas or special occasion gifts and yes they have helped cut down on dirty cups. And very easy to say "grab your cup and lets go" as we head out the door. I don't buy drinks when we are running errands. They like taking them to extended family dinners too. They don't have to worry about "is this my glass/". They know. Very good investment.
