  2. I have been     at some of the comments.

Dh has done the "not as good as mom's" comment   and decided he could make something better.   :glare:   When he decided he could make things better I just said "remember to clean everything when done" and left the kitchen and went and sat in my comfortable chair and read a book.   (yeah I was stewing some but decided to call it a break for me).

Dh's brother is an awesome cook  :drool5:   Dh isn't a cook.  The other day he decided to make brunch for us (I wasn't getting started quick enough). I said "go for it".  He made can biscuits (can),  gravy (packet), (yes I buy the can and packets :leaving: ), sausage, and scrambled eggs.

I didn't help.  I finished what job I was doing and then went and sat down.  During the meal dh said "I don't know how time it to come out right".  I  started to say something but I just said "thanks for the meal"  I even washed dishes (no dishwasher here).  When I was nearly through washing dh said "I couldn't get up and do the dishes right away.  I needed to take a little break after cooking"  I couldn't help it then.  I said "yeah I cook all the time, you eat and leave the table and think things clean themselves.  I don't always have time for a "break" after cooking.". I was hoping it would make him think to help a little more after supper.

  3. Day 4 - 7 -- $0.   Well dh spent some money but it was out of his little stash.  I got sick (stomach virus) Ds called dh and said "when you get off work go to the store and some Lysol spray and mom some 7up."    Smart boy.

We did leave the house yesterday.  Stopped by the consignment shop.  Ds needs new boots.  No luck.  Then to the library.  Free entertainment.

Oh wait I did spend $25 in gas yesterday.  The van was nearly on empty.

  4. Yes, join in, for certain. :)

I find it is better for me to "forget" to look at sales info to my favorite stores. ;) It's not hard to find a "good reason" to buy something else if I start looking for a reason.

You should see my "Freekin' Cold Outside!" Coat. God, is that thing ugly! I bought it on clearance one year. It comes down to my ankles, is poufy as all-get-out, and is powder blue with a furry hood. It looks like I put a zipper on my bed comforter and just zipped myself up in it. I'm like a giant, powder blue marshmallow. :D Every year, I think what an absurd coat that is. Then, I keep it. I generally only wear it when it's so cold I couldn't possibly care what my coat looks like, because everyone is so cold, their eyes are probably blurry from tears anyway. :D I also think when I passed 40yo, my general Don't Shive A Git factor increased exponentially.

    YMMV, of course.

The bold part had me laughing.  That is how I feel about a lot of things since I hit 40.   Hey if the coat is warm who cares what it looks like.

  5. Reading or screen time is allowed during breakfast and lunch but not supper.  Supper is family meal.

Saying that I have been guilty of reading during family meal :blushing:   We have the TV on sometimes during supper and if the rest of the bunch is watching some show I don't like I will pull out my kindle if it is close.

  6. This day has gone by quick!  I guess it doesn't help I slept in some (I was tired)  and let dss sleep in really late.  Dss are fighting colds and they were sleeping good so I left them alone.

    We have done

    Some school

    Taken trash out

    Figured out meals today

Geez that is all and I am ready for bed.

  7. I want to join  :seeya:

Day 1 -- $0 -- we stayed home all day

Day 2 -- $60 maybe -- gas & food-- we went for a ride (just riding around looking at stuff) as a family and stopped at restaurant to eat.  Dh used his Christmas money for the meal so that didn't come out of our bill money

    Day 3 -- $0 -- home all day

Our fridge is acting up, possibly going out.  Found out last night close to midnight.  We do have another fridge in the back of the house that I use for sale items.  I am so thankful for having the extra fridge.

Spent the day cleaning in the kitchen, mostly around, behind, under the fridge.  So if we have a repair person come out it will look better.

Also browned up a bunch of ground beef for the freezer.  I like to keep browned beef in the freezer for quick meals.

  9. Do flip phones avoid the problem of accidentally getting bumped on?

    I think they do.

Ds has a tracfone.  Got it for him when he started going a few places.  1st phone I got him wasn't a flip.  It got turned on in his pocket quiet often.  When It finally got where it wouldn't stay charged (nearly 2 years later, not bad for a $10 phone) he picked out a $5 flip phone.

Not sure how long it will last but he needed a phone (going somewhere) and wanted a flip so it wouldn't get turned on in his pocket.  The $5 one was all the Dollar General had in a flip.  Since then I have seen a $10 flip at WalMart.

  10. Today I really need to play along.  I said I would yesterday then dh wanted to get out of the house.  We went for a LONG ride.  Just a sight seeing ride on a pretty day.  Didn't accomplish any cleaning but had a good time as a family.  :hurray:

Last night about 11:30-12am  I went to get a glass of ice water.  The ice maker seemed to be having problems.  Opened freezer to see if ice was stuck.  Instead found a thawing freezer.  Checked the fridge side and it was warming up

Moved freezer items to deep freeze, tossing what was already icky.

Moved fridge items to extra fridge, tossing what was in doubt about

Pulled fridge out from wall and swept off back, lots of dust

    Unplugged fridge.

Took off back cardboard panel and cleaned parts as best as I could

    Plugged back in fridge.

I had a few bottles of frozen water in freezer.  1 was almost totally thawed when I found it.  A couple others were still frozen.  I left them in there.  This morning the thawed one is mostly frozen again.  The other 2 that were still solid (left on the door of freezer) still are but the ice packs I left on the door are still liquid.

    So today I will be:

cleaning the fridge really good inside and out

scrubbing floor behind and under fridge

    dejunking the top of fridge

Depending on my energy level I will try to

clean shelving unit next to fridge -- may as well deep clean while fridge is pulled out :glare:

I am thankful that I caught it when I did (instead of losing everything) and thankful I have an extra fridge.

Know what.... deep cleaning fridge, inside, out, top, back, under etc. was all on my "new year cleaning list".  :001_rolleyes:

  11. Wasn't a blog but I was watching House Hunters one time.  The people looking at the house got to the kitchen and said "Oh these cabinets and counters have GOT to go. They are hideous". I turned off the TV.  The hideous cabinets and counters were exactly like the ones in my kitchen.  :glare:. Yes I still have those cabinets and counters.

  12. Holidays confuse me too.  Laying in bed this morning I was trying to figure out what day it was

I need to play along today.  Yesterday I was lazy. Today I need to do something.

Figure out meals -- at least for today and hopefully for the next few days

    Empty vacuum

    Vacuum

Pick a spot and dejunk and organize

    Work on homebinder

  13. Nail clippers! When I was growing up, my family had only one set, and it was a hassle. It was an epiphany when I realized I could have multiples. No more hunting them down.

Santa brought everyone their own pair of nail clippers this year.  I am tired of looking all over for a pair of clippers.

We have multiple of lots of things.  Some I need to go through and get rid of.  Some I like having more than 1 of.

Like water bottles.  I like having them for sporting events, travel and when there is a yard full of boys.

And we have way to many throws/blankets but I still won't get rid of them ;)

  14. Man what a walk down memory lane!

My grandmother had a yellow rotary dial phone on the wall next to the kitchen bar.  When we were visiting I use to want to sit closet to the phone when we ate and hope it would ring

Being about 14 or 15 and walking all over town (like miles and miles away from home) with my friend.  Several times we would be on the main road and my dad would pull over and ask if we wanted a ride home.  He was at the store or just got off work and saw us walking.  We didn't have a cell phone and no one knew where we were.

Saturday morning cartoons. My dc don't understand that cartoons or kid shows weren't on anytime of the day.

Sunday night Disney movie.  Mom would always fix us popcorn to go with the movie.

Playing the Christmas albums on the HUGE stereo.  Looked like a huge cabinet and the lid raised to reveal the turntable, radio controls and 8 track player.

Going on vacation with extended family.  Staying in a small motel that some rooms had kitchens. It was a no thrills place but clean.  The family would get one of those rooms (more like a small house in the center of the motel) and a regular rooms.  Then everyone piled into those 2 rooms.  Sharing beds with cousins.  All meals were fixed and eaten at the hotel except for 1 night out at a restaurant.  Either that same night or maybe another night we would all go to some attraction.  The rest of the week was spent hanging out at the beach, pool and just hanging out with family.

Riding to and from the vacation spot we went in a caravan and all the cousins switched up cars to ride together.  Spent lots of the trip making faces at the cousins in the other cars.

Not locking car doors.  Half the time not locking the house.
