  1. I was watching HH not to long ago and the couple were going on and on about how awful the kitchen counters & cabinets were and that it didn't have a dishwasher.

It was my exact counters and cabinets & I don't have a dishwasher.

Fridge and stove do not match but they work.

The bathrooms definitely need updating.  I am just happy they work.

    Closets are tiny.

All furniture is - family members moved and we inherited what they didn't want.

We have no money to update but as long as everything is functional I am happy.

Our house is over 100 yrs old.  It has "quirks" you learn to deal with.  .

  2. Brown ground beef (ground turkey or deer)  and freeze in meal size portions. When in a hurry and need browned ground beef, toss this in the microwave while getting the rest of the ingredients ready. Then add in the ground beef when thawed or hot.

Cook extra chicken when you are cooking chicken for a meal.  Take the extra and shred or chunk.  Freeze and use for quick meals.

  3. I took a small insulated bag (didn't have to be insulated, it was just a freebie bag I had laying around) and put in it:

a small first aid kit - kind from travel size section - added extra bandaids

    antiseptic wash

    a tube of antiseptic cream

    hand sanitizer

    hand wipes

    bug spray

    sunscreen

    bug bite itch relief cream

    small umbrella

If we are going anywhere besides a quick trip to the store I grab this bag along with my purse.  .

  4. Oh! I have one! In order to keep DS14's socks separate from DH's in the wash, DS throws all his in a mesh bag. I wash and dry them that way and they stay together.

In the same category - for boys and men, BLACK socks for standard wear. Only BLACK. No more annoyance over brown sock bottoms and dingy overall appearance.

Now, if only the baseball coaches would understand the folly of white baseball pants...

Mesh bags for socks are Great.  I got each of us a couple bags and used a sharpie to put our name on the bags.  Hung hooks near the hamper.  Everyone puts their socks in their bag. Two bags so that while bag 1 is in the washer & dryer there is another bag hanging.  No socks anywhere else.  You forget to put your socks in your bag you have no socks.

    White baseball pants  UGH

  5. Late night, ds allergies acting up, my body aching = not much getting done.

I hurt myself cleaning the other day then aggravated it trying to do more yesterday. (see I shouldn't clean  )

Instead of doing cleaning I will be things like

    clearing emails

    organizing files on computer

making lists to go with summer projects

pointing out things for dc to do

    reading

  6. Enjoying reading everyone's plans.  My plans include

get a garden plant & take good care of it

    clean the yard

    paint outdoor furniture

getting rid of everything we don't need - inside & outside house

    organize house

    deep clean house

play catch up on school things I don't feel got learned as well as could have

    plan next year school

go through and organize photos -- there are tons of these

  7. Amy -- hope your throat feels better today.  That is scary

jhschool -- don't know what smell in the carpet you have but have you sprinkled baking soda and let it sit for several hours then vacuum.  Sometimes that will help with carpet smells

I love this thread.  Not only the encouragement but also reading other lists reminds me of things I need to do but forgot.

laundry - the never ending pile

pick up all over - looks like the house exploded

    meal planning

    vacuum

    ball for ds

    supper

    go through clothes

  8. I go and do as I please.  Sometimes someone will ask about school.  Kiddos usually answer before I can "we homeschool"  Most of the time reactions are good or just a blank stare.  Ever once in a blue moon someone will say "well that's just not right" or "that isn't good for the kids."  I don't argue I just smile & say "well it works for our family and my children are happy"  and walk away.

  9. The first time my son took Amoxicillan, he was covered in a rash on his torso.

He never took it again, and his Dr. assumes he's allergic to it.

Same here.   Had to see another dr.--  at some point later on.  That dr. wanted to "try" ds on amoxicillian again.  I said "NO"  it wasn't worth the risk.

  10. I would second a bunch of the ideas already in this thread. I'm skeptical about any "new" product. Lots of products are marketed to create a need where none exists. Consider the Color Catcher Sheets you could put in the wash. Perfect example. Ask yourself, would Grandma have bought this? This is just a product that allows you to wash clothing haphazardly, instead of buying less trash products and washing the clothes correctly.

I take new dark clothes and soak in salt water for about an hour or more.  A lot of times I put them in to soak over night then wash the next morning.  A tablespoon or so of salt (no I don't measure) and swish it around in cold water.  Add in the clothes and soak.  It helps set the color so it doesn't bleed.

  11. Always check the prices before you buy them.  I have been using Sam's members mark washing detergent for a long time.  Worked well and great price.  Last time we were at Sam's I looked at the price of All.  It was cheaper for the same amount.   A good reminder to me to check prices.

We use cloth napkins, bought from yard sales, goodwill & clearance racks.  I don't worry about matching napkins.

Old holey socks are used as rags, especially for icky stuff & you don't want to wash the rag.  We have tons of holey socks so we can toss these.

Old ratty t-shirts are cut up into various sizes as rags, Towels are usually kept whole for big jobs.

Body scrub is a few tablespoons of cornmeal with a couple squirts of liquid soap & just enough water make a thin paste.  Wash face & body with it.  So smooth and soft after.

    Suave shampoo

Baking soda & vinegar make great oven cleaner & drain cleaner.

Vinegar in place of fabric softener
