  1. :lurk5:Hmm... I've been so preoccupied about my oldest meeting the requirements here(currently is Singapore) and forgot all about the standrdized tests he needs to take when we come home.
  2. :iagree:I bought both RS A and B for my younger DS on our trip back home. After reading thru, I feel for my boy it will be beneficial to start at level A. Currently, we just working on the Abacus. Older DS whois doing SM also enjoys RSA(different perspective) though he's a few grades ahead.
  3. Similarly, because of the way schools are structured in Singapore (follows calendar year instead of Agrarian year), students would reach 1B at a similar age to when US students are starting 2nd grade, which explains why a child who tests on a 2nd grade level on other placement tests will probably be somewhere in 1A/1B on Singapore. Yup. From what i gather local kids in Singapore will be 7 years olds for Primary 1 which starts in January (Elementary 6 years at the end of which they take a National Exam) so placements will differ. After the National Exams/PSLE (Primary School Leaving Certificate) the kids choose schools according to their aggregate points. Higher points better schools. Some topics MM introduce earlier are usually thought in taught in their secondary school (usually 4 years). Balancing my oldest boy math curriculum has been the hardest for me since I've not decided whether or not to let my boy to take the PSLE.
  4. :iagree:My oldest doing both SM and MEP, though I merge them and skip some topics here and there. Soon we'll be using MM for extra practice/revision since I already have the books.
  5. :iagree:DH thought I was crazy to lug back 18 pounds of RS on our flight back to Singapore. But totally worth it, my active DS2 doing well. I'm still thinking on how to use lessons in RS (in parts)to supplement my DS1 Singapore math. I havent started yet though. I wonder if anyone has done this successfully....
  6. :lurk5:I just started out with my boys, currently at the stage of buy everything, do everything, move move move... This thread is an eye opener, would like to listen in.
  7. Thx Doodle your suggestion looks good, definitely adding to my wishlist. I think its time I re explore Evan Moore. Thx satori for the link and the review. Just what i needed. Now very tempted to buy. Nice blog :001_smile:
  8. Hi Korin I'm super excited, cant wait to get my hands on the books. I'm not too sure whether I'll be equip enough to find the right combi (I hope to use both) since i still feel i'm walking in the dark. hi ohelizabeth We currently in Singapore, so reselling not an option. Thats a negative for me, so expensive to ship books here. I always go crazy when I come home. One good thing is this site, provides me with an avenue to look into the curriculum that I like. Have you used MCT or IEW? If you have done so or given the opportunity, which will you use as the main and which as the supplement? Is it confusing to teach both. Cos i'm thinkung to give away the books i'm not using to my friends since resources are harder to come by here.
  9. Hi One of my HS friend is going back to Sweden so she is passing off some of her DC books . I'll be inheriting some IEW books which I read its quite useful. Unfortunately or not, I had ordered MCT for my oldest boy and its on its way. Anyone used both of them together? Any ideas to share? lyla
  10. Hi I'm a new homeschooler and still grappling with HS. I have 2 boys and the DS2 is in K. We read variety of books and as often as possible to encourage vocab among other things. Recently, DS2 requested a "vocab book" so he can do school like his big bro. I dont think its necessary but I rather not dampen his desire to learn. I looked into wordly wise 3000 k and Grade 1 but i'm still not too sure. I'm interested to see a sample lesson from the teacher's pack (mostly to justify the buy) The price is steep but I dont mind savings towards it if its worth the price. I'm afraid its too simple/Ds2 wont like it and waste the international shipping (We currently in Singapore) Anyone used this program? Or what program are you/did you use?
  11. :lurk5: I'm just starting MCT out, in similar position. Interested to hear other mums' opinions. Thx.
  12. :bigear: Listening in, I'm still looking for a geo curriculum for my oldest.
  13. :bigear: I'll be starting out Island with the oldest DS soon. Currently on FLL and WWE, wondering to continue or not.
  14. My order still on the way. I'm still unclear how to use it. Do I complete the Grammer island than practice or can use both concurrently? How about the poetry? Anyone combine it with IEW?
  15. I'm using Singapore math, currently looking at supplementing with MM or switching completely to MM. Also wondering about chalkdust:confused:
